Czechia Poised for Record Tourism Year in 2025 with Surge from Germany, Poland, USA & More

Czechia is on track for its best tourism year ever in 2025, thanks to double-digit growth from Germany, Poland, USA, Argentina, Ireland, and Japan.

Czechia Poised for Record Tourism Year in 2025

Prague, Czechia — As 2025 unfolds, Czechia stands on the brink of its most successful tourism year yet. A potent mix of domestic travel and surging international interest—from Germany, Poland, the USA, Austria, Slovakia, Ireland, and Argentina—is fuelling record-breaking arrivals and overnight stays.

A Balanced and Expanding Tourism Landscape

In the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, collective accommodation—hotels, guesthouses, campsites—welcomed 6.3 million visitors who logged over 15 million overnight stays, an average visit of about 3.38 days. Domestic guests accounted for 53.3% of arrivals, with international tourists making up 46.7%, signaling a healthy balance between local demand and growing global interest.

Leading Source Markets and Overnight Stays

Germany led as the top foreign market with 665,000 arrivals, followed by Slovakia (269,000) and Poland (259,000). Visitors from the USA, UK, and Austria also featured prominently. Notably, the biggest year-on-year growth came from Ireland (+33.6%), Argentina (+28.6%), and Japan (+23.4%).

Regional Highlights: City, Wine, and Wellness

Prague remains the crown jewel, drawing over 2.2 million visitors—more than one-third of all arrivals—during Q2. South Moravia and South Bohemia also performed strongly, attracting 625,000 and 494,000 tourists respectively, thanks to cultural events, wine tourism, and scenic landscapes.

The famed spa region of Karlovy Vary stands out for its extended average stay of 4.67 days, highlighting its appeal as a longer-stay wellness destination. In contrast, South Moravia sees an average stay of 2.88 days, and Prague about 3.27 days, catering largely to weekend getaways and short visits.

Year-on-Year Growth and Positive Momentum

Compared to Q2 2024, arrivals jumped 5.6%, and overnight stays rose 6.9%. International visitors showed stronger growth in overnight stays (+8.8%) than domestic ones (+5.3%).

Hotels remained the dominant lodging choice, hosting 4.4 million guests (70% of arrivals) with overnight stays reaching 10 million nights4 million by domestic guests and 6 million by foreign nationals. Other accommodation types also saw growth: guesthouses +5.6% in arrivals and stays, while campsites experienced a 6.8% increase in arrivals and a striking 11.5% rise in overnight stays.

Strong Start to the Year — First Half Overview

From January to June, Czechia welcomed nearly 10.5 million visitors who contributed to 25.6 million nights spent across the country. If this trajectory continues, 2025 could become one of the strongest tourism years of the last decade.

Strategic Insights and Future Outlook

Overseeing this upward trend, CzechTourism’s Director, František Reismüller, notes, “While neighbouring markets remain key, the marked rise in distant visitors—from Ireland to Argentina to Japan—reflects Czechia’s growing global appeal”. Their focus now is to extend stay durations and increase tourist spending through strategic regional promotion and infrastructure upgrades.

Conclusion: Czechia’s Tourism Triumph in Progress

With sustained domestic travel and growing interest from a broad range of international markets, Czechia is set for a landmark tourism year in 2025. From the fairy-tale charm of Prague and cultural delights of South Moravia to the tranquil spa getaways of Karlovy Vary, Czechia’s varied offerings deliver something for every traveler.

If current trends hold steady, 2025 may well become a milestone year—reinforcing Czechia’s position as one of Europe’s most dynamic and destination-diverse tourism success stories.
