Hilton Expands Florida Keys Presence With New Waterfront Key West Resort and Marina

Hilton has expanded its footprint in the Florida Keys with the arrival of Hilton Key West Resort & Marina, a 175-room waterfront property on Stock Island that brings a major international hotel brand to one of the region’s fastest-evolving hospitality districts.

The resort occupies the former Ocean’s Edge Resort & Marina and began accepting reservations for stays from 1 July 2026. Its conversion adds 86 suites, private furnished balconies, marina access, six saltwater swimming pools, waterfront dining and extensive outdoor recreation to Hilton’s growing Florida portfolio.

Located at the eastern edge of Key West, the property combines a quieter resort environment with access to the historic centre. Hilton places the resort approximately six miles from Duval Street and Mallory Square and around 10 minutes from Key West International Airport.

The opening strengthens accommodation capacity across a tourism economy built heavily around coastal recreation, boating, fishing, cultural travel and marine experiences.

Stock Island Gains a Major Branded Resort

Stock Island has traditionally been associated with working waterfronts, commercial fishing, boatyards and local residential communities.

However, the island has gradually developed into a hospitality destination offering marinas, restaurants and resort accommodation outside the denser streets of Old Town Key West.

Hilton Key West Resort & Marina advances that transition while retaining a strong connection to the area’s maritime character. Its marina setting allows guests to experience the Florida Keys as a water-oriented destination rather than simply using the property as a base for sightseeing.

The Stock Island location also gives travellers additional space, waterfront views and resort-style facilities that are difficult to accommodate in Key West’s historic centre.

A complimentary shuttle links guests with Old Town, providing access to Duval Street, Mallory Square and other major visitor districts without requiring them to stay inside the busiest tourism zone.

Resort Design Reflects the Florida Keys Lifestyle

The property’s 175 guest rooms include 86 suites, with many accommodations offering furnished balconies and views across the marina or surrounding water.

Six saltwater pools form a central part of the resort experience, allowing guests to alternate between swimming, relaxation and outdoor social areas throughout the property.

Dining is designed around the waterfront setting and the relaxed island identity associated with the Florida Keys. Guests can also access event facilities suitable for meetings, celebrations, group travel and destination weddings.

The broader recreation programme includes kayaking, paddleboarding, cycling and yoga. These activities reflect growing demand for hotel stays that combine accommodation with wellness, movement and direct engagement with the destination.

Rather than relying only on conventional room-based hospitality, the resort positions the surrounding water, marina and tropical landscape as essential parts of the guest experience.

Marina Access Supports Marine Tourism Demand

The Florida Keys are closely linked to boating, diving, snorkelling and sport fishing.

The waters surrounding the island chain form part of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, a protected area covering approximately 3,800 square miles. Its ecosystems include coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass meadows and habitats supporting diverse marine life.

North America’s only coral barrier reef lies within the region, helping make the Keys one of the most important diving and snorkelling destinations in the United States.

More than 700,000 divers and snorkellers enter sanctuary waters annually, demonstrating the scale of marine tourism demand.

Direct marina access therefore gives Hilton Key West Resort & Marina a strong competitive position. Travellers can use the property as a starting point for fishing charters, boating excursions, sunset cruises and other water-based activities.

The location also complements the established tourism model of combining cultural exploration in Key West with offshore recreation in the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf waters.

Guests Can Explore Historic Key West

Although the resort is located away from Old Town, its shuttle connection makes Key West’s major attractions accessible.

Visitors can explore Mallory Square’s sunset celebrations, Duval Street’s restaurants and entertainment, the Key West Historic Seaport and the island’s distinctive wooden architecture.

Other prominent attractions include the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, Key West Lighthouse and the Southernmost Point area.

The surrounding destination blends Caribbean influences, maritime history, arts, food and tropical scenery, giving travellers a wider experience than a conventional beach holiday.

Stock Island provides a contrasting atmosphere, with a more open waterfront environment and a stronger connection to the Keys’ working maritime culture.

Hilton Expansion Supports the Visitor Economy

Tourism remains Monroe County’s largest economic engine, with visitors spending approximately $3.5 billion annually across the Florida Keys.

A branded resort of this scale can support employment, marina activity, restaurants, transport providers, excursion businesses and local suppliers. It also increases the destination’s visibility among Hilton Honors members and international travellers who prefer recognised hospitality brands.

The property may help spread visitor spending beyond central Key West while supporting Stock Island’s continued development as a resort and dining area.

At the same time, expansion across the Keys must operate alongside environmental stewardship. Tourism authorities and marine agencies continue encouraging responsible boating, reef-safe recreation and sustainable visitor behaviour to protect the natural resources that underpin the regional economy.

A New Waterfront Chapter for Key West

Hilton Key West Resort & Marina represents a significant addition to the Florida Keys accommodation market.

Its combination of 175 rooms, six pools, marina access, outdoor recreation and connections to Old Town allows travellers to experience both resort-style relaxation and the cultural energy of Key West.

By expanding onto Stock Island, Hilton is helping reshape the geography of local hospitality while strengthening the region’s appeal for leisure travellers, groups and marine tourism visitors.

The development signals a continuing shift toward experience-led coastal resorts where the water, environment and island lifestyle are as important as the accommodation itself.
