Austrian Airlines is adding 100 flights for the 2026 autumn holidays, extending popular summer routes into the first week of its winter schedule. The expansion brings more options for travellers heading to Italy, Spain, Greece and other Mediterranean destinations.
The airline will switch from its summer to winter timetable during the weekend of October 24–25. Rather than ending every seasonal route at that point, it will retain selected services for the final week of October. It will also increase frequencies to destinations already included in its winter programme.
Palma de Mallorca and Larnaca receive the largest stated additions, with 11 and 13 extra flights respectively. The changes give families and other holidaymakers more departure choices during a concentrated travel period.
Italy and Spain Gain More Autumn Connections
Italy features prominently in the extended programme. Austrian Airlines will continue flights to Olbia, Palermo and Lamezia Terme beyond their usual summer timetable. It will also increase frequencies to Rome, Florence and Naples.
The mix offers travellers several types of autumn break. Rome and Florence serve visitors planning city stays, while Sicily, Sardinia and southern Italy offer coastal and regional itineraries. Extra flights may help visitors arrange trips beyond the busiest summer weeks.
Spain will retain seasonal services to Ibiza, Alicante, Bilbao and Fuerteventura. Austrian Airlines will also fly more often to Valencia than its standard winter schedule provides. Palma de Mallorca gains 11 additional flights during the autumn holiday period.
These destinations span islands, coastal cities and urban centres. By extending services, the airline gives passengers more ways to plan a late October trip without relying solely on year-round routes.
Greece, Cyprus and the Adriatic Also Benefit
The autumn expansion reaches several other leisure markets. Austrian Airlines will extend or increase flights to the Greek destinations of Heraklion, Chania and Rhodes.
Larnaca, in Cyprus, receives 13 additional flights, the largest increase specified for a single destination. Portugal’s Funchal will also remain on the schedule longer, supporting travel to Madeira after the main summer season.
Along the Adriatic, the airline will extend its Split service and add flights to Dubrovnik compared with the regular winter timetable. Nice, in southern France, will also receive more frequencies.
For destinations, retaining air service later in the year can support travel beyond the peak summer calendar. Hotels, restaurants and attractions may benefit when visitors have more flight options. The effect will depend on bookings and how long travellers stay.
City Breaks Remain Part of the Winter Schedule
Austrian Airlines is also promoting established city routes as the winter timetable begins. London, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin and Hamburg remain available for travellers seeking shorter European breaks.
These cities offer a different proposition from the airline’s extended coastal programme. Passengers can choose museums, dining, shopping and other urban experiences during the autumn holiday period.
The wider short- and medium-haul network also supports travellers combining purposes in one trip. A passenger might add leisure time to a business visit or use Vienna as a connection point. The extra autumn flights increase choice during a week when many travellers need specific departure dates.
Maldives and Mauritius Gain Winter Capacity
After the autumn holidays, Austrian Airlines will increase its long-haul leisure programme. Flights to Malé in the Maldives and to Mauritius will rise to as many as seven weekly services each during peak periods.
Malé will receive up to 10 weekly flights during the early February school holiday period. From mid-January through the end of March, Austrian Airlines plans to use its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the Vienna–Mauritius route.
The additions give travellers more options for Indian Ocean holidays during Europe’s colder months. More departures can also help passengers select trip lengths that fit school holidays or leave from work.
Bangkok and Dubai Strengthen the Winter Network
Austrian Airlines will bring back its twice-daily Bangkok schedule in January and February, with 14 weekly flights. The route will operate 13 times weekly until the end of March.
Dubai also returns to the winter programme, with five weekly Airbus A320neo flights. The airline is placing particular emphasis on the Christmas and New Year travel period.
To support greater capacity toward Asia, Austrian Airlines is adjusting parts of its North Atlantic programme. Short seasonal pauses will affect Chicago and Boston from January 11 and New York JFK from January 23. Newark, Washington and Montreal will continue without a planned pause.
Together, the changes show how the airline is matching aircraft and flights to seasonal demand. For travellers, the immediate news is 100 more autumn flights. The winter programme then shifts the emphasis toward long-haul sunshine destinations and Bangkok.
