IndiGo Expands Global Reach with New Routes to UK, Europe, Southeast Asia and Domestic Hubs in 2025. You need to know

IndiGo launches new flights to UK, Netherlands, Cambodia, Greece, and beyond in 2025, boosting Indian tourism and global air connectivity.

India’s largest airline, IndiGo (6E), is taking ambitious steps toward international dominance with a bold expansion of routes in 2025, launching new services to the UK, Netherlands, Denmark, Greece, Cambodia, and Central Asia, while continuing to reinforce its domestic network with new regional cities and increased frequencies on key routes.

This expansion comes as part of the airline’s strategy to bridge India with high-demand destinations across Europe and Southeast Asia, capitalizing on rising demand from leisure and business travelers and further integrating India into the global air travel network.

International Growth: London, Amsterdam, and Beyond

IndiGo began direct flights to London Heathrow and Manchester from Mumbai on July 1, 2025, marking a major milestone in its transcontinental ambitions. These non-stop services cater to both the VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) segment and corporate travelers, long underserved by budget-friendly options.

On July 2, 2025, IndiGo launched a new direct service from Mumbai to Amsterdam Schiphol, further opening up travel opportunities for Indian passengers to continental Europe, while offering Europeans a streamlined connection to India’s financial capital.

The carrier also announced upcoming launches to Copenhagen and Athens by Winter 2025, expanding into Scandinavian and Mediterranean leisure markets, both witnessing increased outbound travel from India. These destinations align with India’s growing demand for visa-friendly and experiential travel options.

In Southeast Asia, Siem Reap in Cambodia will join the IndiGo network in Winter 2025. The route connects Indian travelers to Angkor Wat, one of the world’s most iconic UNESCO heritage sites. This move supports India’s outbound tourism growth while reinforcing inbound tourist flows to India.

Central Asia Connections and Code-Share Expansion

IndiGo also confirmed direct flights to four Central Asian cities, with Almaty and Tashkent among the first to resume in July 2025, bridging a critical gap in regional connectivity. These cities offer trade, tourism, and cultural opportunities, and support India’s diplomatic outreach through aviation.

Through code-share agreements with Air France-KLM, Virgin Atlantic, and Delta Air Lines, IndiGo passengers can now access over 60 additional destinations in Europe and North America with seamless connectivity from India.

Domestic Route Strengthening: Regional India Gets a Boost

Alongside its global push, IndiGo remains committed to expanding access within India. In 2025, new domestic routes to Puducherry (PNY), Bikaner (BKB), Tiruchirappalli, and Jorhat aim to enhance regional tourism and business travel.

  • Delhi–Tiruchirappalli daily flights commence September 16, 2025
  • Delhi–Jorhat will operate four times a week from September 20, 2025

These additions align with India’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) initiative, enhancing air connectivity in underserved regions and contributing to balanced regional growth.

Simultaneously, IndiGo is increasing flight frequencies on high-demand domestic sectors like Delhi–Mumbai, Bangalore–Chennai, and Kolkata–Hyderabad, offering greater flexibility and affordability for India’s expanding middle class.

Fleet Growth: Preparing for Long-Haul Operations

IndiGo’s international expansion is supported by significant investments in its modern fleet. As of mid-2025, IndiGo operates 420 aircraft, including:

  • 237 A320neo jets
  • 105 A321neo aircraft
  • 48 ATR 72-600 turboprops for regional services

To power long-haul routes, IndiGo is preparing to induct its first Airbus A321XLR and leased Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners from Norse Atlantic Airways. These aircraft will serve London, Amsterdam, and future routes to Europe, Australia, and the U.S.

IndiGo’s A321XLRs, with increased range and fuel efficiency, will unlock underserved routes that don’t justify wide-body aircraft but offer strong demand. The A350-900 wide-body jets, with deliveries starting in 2027, will enable nonstop long-haul travel between India and major cities across continents.

IndiGo Stretch: A New Class of Comfort

To meet rising expectations from premium travelers, IndiGo is debuting “IndiGo Stretch,” a new business-class cabin on select international routes. Featuring 12 reclining seats, this product enhances comfort on long journeys to Dubai, Singapore, Bangkok, and Phuket, setting the stage for full-service experience on a low-cost model.

Combined with improved meal services, Wi-Fi rollout trials, and mobile-first check-in enhancements, IndiGo is evolving its value proposition to capture a broader segment of international fliers.

Cargo Operations: Expanding IndiGo CarGo

Beyond passenger services, IndiGo is scaling its freight division, IndiGo CarGo, which now operates three A321P2F (passenger-to-freighter) aircraft with one more expected later in 2025. These cargo operations support India’s growing logistics and e-commerce ecosystem, especially between metro and Tier-2 cities.

Outlook: Resilient Growth and Global Aspirations

IndiGo’s 2025 strategy reflects a balanced expansion model—serving regional India while aggressively building international scale. With nearly 950 aircraft on order, including A321XLRs, A220s, and A350s, the airline is on track to become one of the top global carriers by fleet size and destinations served.

The challenges are real—airport infrastructure constraints, global fuel volatility, and competitive pricing pressure—but IndiGo’s strategic partnerships, efficient fleet use, and robust market presence continue to offer a clear path to leadership in Indian aviation and growing clout in global skies.
