IHG Signs 130-Room voco Vrindavan as Braj Tourism Grows

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement for voco Vrindavan, a 130-room hotel targeting an early 2031 opening. The property will introduce the premium brand to a major pilgrimage destination in Uttar Pradesh.

Vrindam Developers Private Limited will develop the hotel, marking its first hospitality venture. The planned opening falls within the first quarter of 2031.

The project will combine accommodation, three dining venues and extensive event facilities within a larger mixed-use development. Serviced apartments will form another component, with shared amenities available to hotel guests and residents.

The signing strengthens IHG’s planned presence across the Braj region, where pilgrimage, family travel and cultural visits support accommodation demand.

Visitor Growth Supports Investment Interest

Vrindavan and neighbouring Mathura together attracted more than 90 million visitors in 2024, compared with approximately 79 million in 2023.

These regional figures describe visitor volumes rather than overnight hotel demand. Nevertheless, they indicate the scale of activity surrounding two closely connected religious destinations.

The supplied outlook projects annual volumes of between 110 million and 140 million over the coming decade. That remains a forecast rather than an established outcome.

For accommodation providers, the opportunity depends on how many visitors stay overnight and the services they seek.

Pilgrims, families, leisure groups and event guests can have different requirements. A hotel combining rooms, dining and function space can address several of those needs.

Connectivity Strengthens the Braj Travel Circuit

Vrindavan’s connections with Delhi NCR, Agra and Mathura support its role within a wider North Indian travel itinerary.

Visitors can combine religious experiences with cultural sightseeing and other regional destinations. Convenient transport also matters for groups arranging accommodation and event travel.

Planned infrastructure improvements include the Banke Bihari Corridor and upgrades to regional road and expressway connectivity.

These projects aim to improve access and help the destination accommodate increasing visitor activity. Their tourism contribution will depend on implementation and the experience delivered on the ground.

For voco Vrindavan, location within an established travel circuit offers access to several potential customer segments.

Hotel Plans Include 13 Suites

The hotel’s planned inventory comprises 130 guestrooms, including 13 suites. Its accommodation offering will sit alongside serviced apartments within the broader development.

Shared facilities will connect the hotel and residential components, creating a hospitality environment extending beyond conventional guestrooms.

IHG positions voco around individual property character and a relaxed guest experience, supported by international operating standards.

That approach could suit travellers seeking branded service while visiting a destination with a distinctive spiritual identity.

However, the hotel remains a future development. Room availability, opening arrangements and detailed guest services will become clearer closer to launch.

Dining and Leisure Broaden the Stay

Three food and beverage venues will include an all-day dining outlet, another restaurant and a lobby lounge.

The planned mix provides spaces for regular meals, informal meetings and social gatherings. These venues are intended to serve hotel guests and other visitors.

A swimming pool and fitness centre will add leisure options within the property.

For families and groups, such facilities can broaden the experience around a pilgrimage itinerary. They may also appeal to guests extending their stay for celebrations or other commitments.

The combination gives the hotel several ways to serve visitors beyond providing a place to sleep.

Event Facilities Target Weddings and Meetings

Meetings and events will form a substantial part of voco Vrindavan’s offering.

The plans include more than 2,340 square metres of function space across six venues. A 1,400-square-metre ballroom will anchor the facilities.

The space is intended for weddings, celebrations, conferences and meetings. Accommodation and dining within the same development could simplify arrangements for organisers and travelling guests.

Such events may also generate business for local transport, suppliers and other visitor services.

Nevertheless, the signing does not establish future event bookings or revenue. Those outcomes will depend on the completed facilities and market demand.

IHG Builds Its Regional Presence

The development will complement a planned Holiday Inn Express in neighbouring Mathura, extending IHG’s presence across the Braj tourism circuit.

Sudeep Jain, IHG’s Managing Director for South West Asia, highlighted Vrindavan’s cultural significance and opportunities for quality branded hospitality.

He described voco’s character and relaxed approach as suited to changing traveller expectations.

Vrindam Developers Director Ankush Kadyan similarly pointed to pilgrimage demand and improving connectivity as reasons behind the partnership.

For Uttar Pradesh tourism, the project represents a longer-term addition to accommodation and event capacity. Its contribution will depend on delivery, service quality and its ability to meet the needs of visitors arriving in 2031.
