Cambodia has moved to a fully digital system for visas issued through its overseas embassies and consulates, marking a significant change for international travellers planning visits to the Southeast Asian destination. Effective October 3, 2026, the country has discontinued physical visa stickers in passports, replacing them with electronic visas designed to modernise visa processing and make travel documentation more convenient.
The new Cambodia e-Visa arrangement is relevant for international visitors, including Indian travellers, who apply for visas through Cambodian diplomatic missions abroad. Although the format of visa issuance has changed, travellers should not assume that every embassy follows the same application procedure or that the new system makes Cambodia visa-free. Checking the latest requirements before departure remains essential.
Cambodia Advances Its Digital Visa System
Under the new arrangement, Cambodian embassies and consulates no longer issue traditional adhesive visa stickers for applications processed through their diplomatic missions. Approved visas are instead provided electronically, reflecting the country’s broader move towards digital immigration services.
The change is intended to streamline documentation and reduce reliance on physical visa labels. However, application procedures may vary between diplomatic missions, so travellers should consult the relevant embassy or consulate to confirm how to submit their documents and receive approval.
Cambodia has also continued to develop its official electronic visa platform. Travellers can consult the government’s official website for eligible visa categories, application instructions and current requirements. The online e-Visa service and electronic visa issuance through diplomatic missions are related parts of the country’s digital visa framework, but applicants should follow the procedure applicable to their circumstances.
Despite the discontinuation of physical visa stickers at overseas diplomatic missions, Cambodia continues to offer Visa on Arrival to eligible international visitors at designated entry points.
This means that travellers who qualify may still be able to obtain a visa on arrival rather than applying through an embassy. Eligibility, permitted entry points and supporting documentation can depend on nationality and travel purpose, so visitors should verify the rules before booking or travelling.
For Indian passport holders, the new electronic issuance system does not automatically remove visa requirements. Travellers should confirm the appropriate visa category, fees, processing arrangements and passport validity requirements using official Cambodian sources.
Cambodia e-Arrival Is a Separate Requirement
Another important consideration for visitors is Cambodia’s e-Arrival system. The electronic arrival declaration is separate from the e-Visa and serves a different purpose. According to Cambodia’s official e-Visa portal, travellers must complete the e-Arrival form online within seven days before arrival, including those who already hold an approved visa. Visitors should therefore distinguish between the three key procedures: obtaining a visa where required, completing the e-Arrival declaration and meeting immigration requirements at the point of entry. Completing one process does not necessarily replace the others.
A More Digital Travel Experience for Cambodia
Cambodia’s transition to electronic visa issuance reflects a wider effort to modernise travel administration and make immigration procedures more digitally accessible. For international visitors, the shift removes the need for a newly issued physical visa sticker when applying through overseas diplomatic missions, although the practical application process may differ by location. For travellers preparing a holiday, business visit or cultural trip to Cambodia, the most effective approach is to check official requirements early, use authorised government platforms and keep an accessible copy of the approved electronic visa and relevant travel documents.
As Cambodia continues to expand its digital immigration services, understanding the distinction between electronic visa issuance, Visa on Arrival and e-Arrival will help visitors prepare more confidently for their journey and avoid unnecessary delays.
