IHG Hotels & Resorts has surpassed 1,000 operating hotels across Europe, expanding accommodation choices in the region’s leisure and business destinations. The group added more than 210 hotels over three years, delivering net portfolio growth exceeding 25%.
Its European development pipeline includes more than 280 additional hotels. Meanwhile, recent additions in London, Marseille and Vienna demonstrate growth across luxury, lifestyle and premium accommodation.
For travellers, the expansion brings more branded options across different budgets and travel preferences. For destinations, individual openings can introduce accommodation or connect existing properties with a larger international booking network.
However, pipeline hotels represent future development commitments rather than rooms already available to guests.
Brand Launches Extend Into New Markets
Since the beginning of 2024, IHG has recorded 36 first-time country launches for individual brands across Europe, excluding Ruby properties.
Those introductions have extended brand coverage into markets including Iceland, Sweden and Greece. The figure measures brand debuts within countries, rather than 36 newly entered countries.
This approach allows IHG to introduce established accommodation concepts into additional destinations. Travellers familiar with a particular brand can consequently find it in more locations.
The group’s acquisition of Ruby has also broadened its urban lifestyle offering. Separately, Noted Collection became IHG’s 21st brand, with seven hotel agreements signed worldwide.
These developments support a portfolio serving different purposes, from city breaks and cultural holidays to business trips and longer stays.
London Addition Strengthens Luxury Accommodation
The Hari London, Vignette Collection adds an 85-room property in Belgravia to IHG’s European luxury network.
Its location places guests within reach of Knightsbridge, Hyde Park and central London’s shopping and cultural attractions. The hotel combines an intimate scale with the services associated with upscale accommodation.
For international visitors, that setting supports itineraries built around sightseeing, dining and retail experiences. It also provides an option for travellers seeking a residential neighbourhood atmosphere.
Vignette Collection now operates 13 hotels across Europe, with another 16 under development.
The distinction matters for holiday planning: operating properties can receive guests, while development projects require confirmed opening dates before entering travel itineraries.
Ruby Makes Its French Debut in Marseille
Ruby Lilou Hotel Marseille introduces the lifestyle brand to France, adding another option for visitors exploring the Mediterranean city.
The property sits between the historic Vieux Port and La Joliette district. Its position connects guests with waterfront experiences, cultural attractions and commercial areas.
Interiors draw on the destination’s character, while communal spaces encourage guests to spend time beyond their rooms. A rooftop terrace provides another place to relax and socialise.
For leisure travellers, the hotel offers a base for discovering different parts of Marseille. Business guests can also use its location near the city’s commercial activity.
The opening illustrates how IHG’s broader brand portfolio can serve urban travel through properties with distinct identities.
Crowne Plaza Vienna Adds 195 Rooms
Crowne Plaza Vienna strengthens the group’s premium accommodation offering in the Austrian capital’s evolving Margareten district.
Designed by David Chipperfield, the 195-room property takes architectural inspiration from the Austrian National Library. Its concept combines contemporary comfort, environmental considerations and local cultural influences.
Views across Vienna form part of the guest experience. The hotel targets business visitors, holidaymakers and travellers combining professional commitments with leisure activities.
Crowne Plaza’s European network includes 98 operating hotels and 21 properties in development.
The Vienna addition therefore contributes to an established regional presence while demonstrating the brand’s approach to contemporary city accommodation.
Tourism Demand Supports the Growth Strategy
Europe recorded approximately 793 million international tourist arrivals in 2025, accounting for more than half of the global total.
That scale gives hotel groups a substantial visitor market, although demand varies between destinations and travel periods.
IHG’s expansion combines new developments with conversions of existing buildings and properties. These approaches can produce different outcomes for local accommodation supply.
A newly built hotel adds rooms when it opens. An existing hotel joining a brand may instead change its identity, distribution and guest proposition.
Karin Sheppard, IHG’s senior vice president and managing director for Europe, linked the milestone to brand strength and owner confidence.
Development Pipeline Points to Further Expansion
IHG One Rewards now serves more than 160 million members, connecting a large loyalty audience with the group’s international accommodation network.
Its European pipeline provides scope for further openings, subject to individual development schedules.
For travellers, the immediate benefit lies in the hotels already operating. Future additions will broaden that choice as properties confirm opening dates and begin accepting guests.
