Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers and Canon Launch Bold Climate Contribution Project to Offset Hotel

Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers partners with Canon Middle East to offset 5,610 kg of CO2 annually through global climate projects, driving hospitality sustainability.

Conrad

In a landmark sustainability initiative, Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers has partnered with Canon Middle East to launch a Climate Contribution Project aimed at neutralizing emissions tied to its print operations. This collaborative program positions the luxury hotel as a regional leader in environmentally responsible hospitality and reflects both brands’ commitment to creating a positive environmental impact.

The project specifically targets approximately 5,610 kilograms of CO2 emissions per year, generated by the hotel’s fleet of 13 Canon printers, which collectively handle over 430,000 pages annually. These emissions stem from printer ink, paper usage, and electricity consumption. In response, the initiative will offset these unavoidable emissions through investments in certified global climate projects, reinforcing sustainable practices in the UAE’s growing tourism and luxury sectors.

Sustainable Innovation in Hotel Operations

The program starts with a comprehensive print and scan audit, identifying areas for optimization across the hotel’s printing infrastructure. Using Canon’s smart printing solutions, including the uniFLOW platform, the hotel is reducing waste, limiting unnecessary printing, and ensuring energy-efficient operations. The initiative enhances operational efficiency while minimizing the carbon footprint of its business practices.

“At Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers, we recognize our responsibility as a luxury hospitality leader to minimize our environmental footprint,” said Savino Leone, General Manager. “Partnering with Canon allows us to achieve our sustainability targets without compromising service quality. This partnership is a significant step in our journey toward climate responsibility and positively impacting the communities we serve.”

Canon’s Climate Vision: From Innovation to Impact

Canon Middle East’s Kyosei philosophy—meaning “living and working together for the common good”—has long underpinned its corporate vision. The company has extended this ethos through its Climate Contribution Project, empowering business partners across sectors to reduce or compensate for emissions with verified environmental action.

“We are proud to welcome Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers to our Climate Project Contribution program,” said Khaled Antoun, B2B Regional Sales Director at Canon Middle East. “This initiative exemplifies how businesses in the hospitality sector can integrate meaningful climate solutions into their daily operations.”

Global Projects Backed by Gold Standard

The offsetting efforts under this collaboration support internationally certified climate action projects under the Gold Standard, a globally recognized certification for climate and sustainable development interventions. These projects span multiple continents and include:

  • Wind energy plants in India and Indonesia, replacing fossil fuels with clean, renewable power.
  • Cookstove programs in Uganda, combating deforestation and reducing indoor air pollution.
  • Reforestation and biodiversity projects across Germany, Switzerland, South America, and England, focused on restoring ecosystems and sequestering carbon.

These efforts are independently verified by Climate Partner, ensuring transparency, credibility, and measurable impact. The collaboration allows luxury hospitality operations like Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers to take concrete action in mitigating climate change while continuing to provide elevated guest experiences.

Setting a New Benchmark in Sustainable Tourism

The partnership illustrates a growing trend in the global tourism industry: integrating sustainability into the core of luxury travel offerings. With the UAE positioning itself as a global tourism and investment hub, especially in the run-up to COP28’s climate legacy, this initiative demonstrates how corporate alliances can accelerate national and international environmental goals.

The hospitality industry, especially in the Middle East, is undergoing a transformation. More guests, especially international travelers, now prioritize eco-conscious accommodation, and brands like Conrad are responding with innovation and authenticity. Through data-driven print optimization, waste reduction, and carbon offsetting, this partnership showcases a model of how technology and tourism can intersect for the common good.
