Emirates enhances global routes with new A380s and Premium Economy cabins on refurbished aircraft to Singapore, Zurich, and Shanghai, boosting comfort and capacity.

Emirates Expands Premium Economy with A380 and Boeing 777 Upgrades to Singapore, Zurich, and Shanghai

Emirates is elevating the long-haul travel experience by rolling out its newly refurbished Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft to high-demand destinations, with Singapore leading the charge through the introduction of a third daily A380 service. This move comes as the Dubai-based airline intensifies its global fleet overhaul and Premium Economy expansion in response to rising passenger demand for greater comfort and enhanced travel experiences.

In tandem, Zurich and Shanghai are now included in Emirates’ Premium Economy rollout, solidifying the airline’s commitment to offering luxury across a broader range of destinations. These service upgrades, which also include expanded flight frequencies to Milan and South America, mark a strategic acceleration in Emirates’ post-pandemic recovery and passenger growth strategy.

Singapore Takes the Lead in A380 Expansion

Singapore will now enjoy three daily Emirates A380 services, making it a centerpiece in the airline’s effort to provide high-capacity, high-comfort travel in Southeast Asia. The Airbus A380, renowned for its spacious cabins and superior in-flight amenities, features Emirates’ new four-class configuration, including Premium Economy seating.

This expansion reflects strong travel demand in the Asia-Pacific region and enhances connectivity between Singapore and Dubai. According to Singapore’s Changi Airport Group, passenger traffic is steadily rebounding, and Emirates’ decision to add capacity to Singapore aligns with broader regional tourism growth trends.

Zurich and Shanghai Join the Premium Economy Network

Emirates will also deploy its refurbished A380 aircraft to Zurich from February 1, 2026. On that day, Premium Economy will be introduced on EK87/88, offering Swiss travelers a new class of service that balances affordability and luxury. This follows a broader effort by Emirates to make its four-class offering available across key European destinations.

Shanghai will see the debut of the A380 on EK302/303 starting July 20, 2025. A second daily service on EK304/305 will operate using a fully refurbished Boeing 777. These aircraft upgrades come at a time when China’s outbound tourism is gaining momentum, and Emirates is seizing the opportunity to support this recovery with increased capacity and enhanced product offerings.

Milan and South America Get More Daily Frequencies

As part of its Winter 2025–2026 schedule update, Emirates is also expanding its footprint in Italy and South America:

  • Milan will benefit from a third daily Dubai-Milan service operated by a Boeing 777-300ER. This increase provides more flexibility for business and leisure travelers heading to northern Italy, one of Europe’s most dynamic economic and cultural hubs.
  • Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires will see the Dubai-Rio-Buenos Aires route increase from five weekly flights to a daily schedule. This development enhances air connectivity across Brazil and Argentina, key tourism and trade partners in the region.

Inside Emirates’ Premium Economy: Comfort Without the Business Class Price Tag

Premium Economy is rapidly becoming a standout feature of Emirates’ product offering. Onboard the Boeing 777, passengers will find 24 Premium Economy seats arranged between Business and Economy classes. These seats offer more legroom, wider seats, increased recline, calf rests, personal charging ports, and upgraded entertainment options.

The A380 Premium Economy cabin includes 56 seats in a 2-4-2 layout at the front of the main deck. Designed with careful attention to detail, it caters to travelers who seek a superior experience without the premium of Business Class.

According to Emirates, the product has been well received in markets where it’s already launched, with increasing demand among families, business travelers, and mature leisure tourists.

A Fleet Overhaul at Scale

Emirates launched its ambitious retrofit program in November 2022, with over 60 aircraft already refurbished as of mid-2025. Engineers are now completing one aircraft upgrade every three weeks, a pace unmatched in the industry.

Each refurbishment includes upgraded seating, entertainment systems, and soft furnishings in First, Business, and Economy classes, with the addition of Premium Economy across both the A380 and 777 fleets. Emirates has committed to upgrading 67 A380s and 53 Boeing 777s by mid-2026.

Resilience Amid Global Headwinds

Despite regional challenges, including geopolitical tensions in parts of the Middle East, Emirates remains committed to operating its full global schedule. The airline continues to prioritize route stability, safety, and service excellence while planning for increased demand in peak summer and winter travel seasons.

Its agility in adding new frequencies and deploying retrofitted aircraft signals strong operational resilience and customer-centric planning. Passengers flying between Dubai and key cities in Asia, Europe, and the Americas can expect a uniform, elevated experience regardless of route.

A Blueprint for Long-Haul Travel’s Future

With this wave of enhancements, Emirates is reshaping what long-haul travel looks like in 2025 and beyond. From the luxurious privacy of First Class to the growing popularity of Premium Economy, the airline is catering to a diverse passenger base that values comfort, service quality, and consistent in-flight excellence.

As more refurbished aircraft enter service, more cities will gain access to Emirates’ four-class experience, setting a new global standard for international travel. Emirates’ approach is not just about capacity—it’s about redefining how passengers experience flight.
