IndiGo and Jetstar Launch Codeshare Partnership to Boost Travel Between India, Australia, and New Zealand

IndiGo and Jetstar launch a codeshare agreement to enhance seamless travel between India, Australia, and New Zealand, expanding tourism and trade routes.

IndiGo and Jetstar Launch Codeshare Agreement to Strengthen Travel Links Between India, Australia, and New Zealand

New Delhi, July 15, 2025 — In a strategic move to improve air connectivity between South Asia and the Pacific region, India’s largest airline IndiGo has entered into a codeshare agreement with Australia’s budget carrier Jetstar Airways. Announced officially on July 15, this partnership aims to simplify travel between India, Australia, and New Zealand while stimulating regional tourism and economic growth.

Starting September 1, 2025, travelers will be able to book combined itineraries involving IndiGo and Jetstar flights through either airline’s official channels. Bookings for these integrated codeshare flights open July 21, 2025 via IndiGo’s website and Jetstar’s booking platform, subject to regulatory approvals.

Seamless Bookings Across Continents

The codeshare allows Indian passengers to enjoy single-ticket bookings for multi-leg international journeys across Southeast Asia and Oceania. This streamlined booking includes travel from Indian cities connecting via Singapore, Bangkok, or Phuket, with onward Jetstar-operated flights to Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, and Gold Coast.

Under this arrangement, passengers will benefit from a simplified travel experience, with synchronized schedules and baggage handling across both airlines. The unified itinerary eliminates the need for separate check-ins or rebookings at transit points, saving both time and hassle.

“Through this partnership, we aim to offer our customers expanded access to destinations in Australia and New Zealand, making international travel more affordable and seamless,” said Abhijit Dasgupta, Senior Vice President of Network Planning and Revenue Management at IndiGo.

Economic Impact and Tourism Growth

The codeshare agreement marks a significant milestone in deepening air connectivity between India, Australia, and New Zealand, three regions with flourishing trade ties and tourism exchanges. According to Tourism Australia, Indian arrivals reached over 400,000 visitors annually pre-pandemic, and demand has been rapidly recovering in 2024–2025.

With large Indian diaspora populations in Melbourne, Sydney, and Auckland, and rising interest in trans-Tasman leisure travel, this new flight offering is expected to significantly boost both leisure and business tourism.

“Jetstar’s partnership with IndiGo offers affordable access to millions of Indian travelers eager to explore Australia and New Zealand,” said a Jetstar spokesperson. “This collaboration will also support tourism recovery and stimulate economic growth across both continents.”

Additionally, New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment projects an increase in Indian inbound travel, particularly around Diwali and summer holidays, which aligns with the codeshare launch timeline.

IndiGo’s International Growth Strategy

This codeshare agreement fits neatly into IndiGo’s broader global ambitions. In recent years, the airline has ramped up its international footprint with direct routes to UAE, Qatar, Thailand, Malaysia, and Turkey, and most recently Europe. The partnership with Jetstar opens up a new frontier for the airline in the Australia–New Zealand corridor, long underserved by direct low-cost Indian carriers.

The move also aligns with India’s Civil Aviation Ministry’s 2025 Vision to strengthen international aviation corridors and transform India into a global aviation hub.

Jetstar’s strategic presence across Australia and New Zealand complements IndiGo’s vast network across India, including tier-2 and tier-3 cities. This combination gives travelers broader access across both networks.

Jetstar’s Positioning in the India Market

As part of the Qantas Group, Jetstar operates extensive low-cost routes across the Asia-Pacific. The codeshare allows the airline to tap into India’s booming aviation market, which is projected by IATA to be the third-largest globally by 2030.

Jetstar’s use of the Airbus A321neo LR on key international routes ensures fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and improved passenger comfort—an ideal fit for long-haul leisure travelers from India.

Jetstar also confirmed that Indian travelers would benefit from its value bundles, offering flexible fare options, pre-booked meals, and baggage allowances tailored to long-distance travel needs.

Sustainability at the Core

Both IndiGo and Jetstar are increasingly prioritizing sustainability in aviation. IndiGo has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and has invested in modern fuel-efficient aircraft. Jetstar runs multiple carbon offset initiatives and recently phased in newer aircraft to reduce per-seat emissions.

This partnership also promotes sustainable tourism by reducing the need for redundant short-haul connections and offering eco-efficient long-haul routes.

Conclusion: A Gateway to the Pacific for Indian Travelers

The IndiGo–Jetstar codeshare opens a new era of affordable, accessible, and seamless international travel between India and Oceania. Business travelers, students, and families visiting relatives or exploring the scenic wonders of Sydney, Queenstown, or the Gold Coast now have a simpler path to get there.

This collaboration is more than a partnership between two airlines—it represents a step forward in regional integration, economic cooperation, and cultural exchange between India, Australia, and New Zealand.

With increasing demand for flexible and cost-effective international travel, this agreement positions both carriers as key players in connecting India to the Pacific with more convenience, better schedules, and stronger connectivity than ever before.
