IndiGo Starts Daily Delhi to London Flights This October

IndiGo launches daily Dreamliner flights from Delhi to London Heathrow from October 26, 2025. Fleet upgrades, MRO expansion, and global plans take flight.

London

India’s largest low-cost airline, IndiGo, is set to make a major leap into the global aviation space with the launch of daily nonstop flights from Delhi to London Heathrow starting October 26, 2025. This marks a significant milestone in the airline’s transition from a domestic powerhouse to a serious international player in long-haul travel.

🚀 A New Chapter in IndiGo’s Long-Haul Expansion

For the first time, IndiGo will operate the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on a critical transcontinental route. Known for its fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and superior passenger comfort, the Dreamliner is well-suited for long-haul services and is a strategic upgrade for the airline.

The new route directly connects India’s capital, Delhi (Indira Gandhi International Airport), with one of the world’s busiest hubs—London Heathrow Airport—bringing new options for both leisure and business travelers between the UK and India. This expansion reflects IndiGo’s ambition to strengthen its European presence, while enhancing connectivity for millions of travelers across India.

🌍 Expanding Global Connectivity: Why London Heathrow Matters

Heathrow Airport serves as a gateway to over 180 global destinations. By entering this key market, IndiGo is not only capturing a broader international audience but also boosting India’s tourism and trade opportunities. The UK is one of India’s top travel destinations for education, family visits, and business.

As per data from the UK Civil Aviation Authority, air travel between the UK and India has seen consistent growth post-pandemic, with over 1.6 million passengers in 2024. This new nonstop daily service is poised to meet the increasing demand and reduce dependency on layover routes.

✈️ Fleet Expansion: Dreamliners & Beyond

IndiGo’s entry into long-haul international operations has been carefully aligned with its fleet expansion strategy. By the end of 2025, the airline plans to operate multiple Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, leased initially through Norse Atlantic Airways and later through direct acquisitions.

The Dreamliner, with a range of over 14,000 km, allows IndiGo to compete with legacy airlines like British Airways, Air India, and Emirates. This aircraft offers modern in-flight experiences, quieter cabins, better air pressure, and enhanced fuel economy—key factors for long-haul passenger satisfaction.

Additionally, IndiGo is preparing to induct Airbus A321XLR aircraft in 2025. These will facilitate nonstop flights to other parts of Europe and the Middle East, further cementing its international roadmap.

Current Fleet Overview (2025):

  • Over 411 aircraft (A320, A321, ATR 72, freighters)
  • Upcoming: Boeing 787-9, Airbus A321XLR

🛠️ Bengaluru MRO Facility: Strengthening Operational Backbone

As IndiGo scales up, it is simultaneously investing in infrastructure to ensure reliability. A state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility is under construction at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, expected to be fully operational by early 2026.

With a ₹1,100 crore investment, the facility will feature:

  • 12 maintenance bays
  • Dedicated hangars for Dreamliners, A350s, and A321XLRs
  • Advanced inspection and repair units
  • Paint and finishing bays

This expansion not only improves fleet readiness and reduces turnaround times but also supports IndiGo’s partnerships through third-party MRO services for code-share airlines.

🤝 Strategic Alliances Powering Global Growth

IndiGo continues to forge alliances to accelerate its global ambitions. Collaborations with carriers such as Air France-KLM, Virgin Atlantic, Turkish Airlines, and Qatar Airways have significantly increased its international footprint.

These code-share agreements provide seamless travel options for passengers flying beyond direct routes, connecting Indian travelers to destinations across North America, Europe, and Asia.

By 2030, IndiGo aims to derive 40% of its total capacity from international operations, a significant leap from its current ratio. New routes, upgraded aircraft, and improved partnerships are all aligned with this mission.

👩‍💼 Premium Experience on Budget: Introduction of IndiGoStretch

Understanding the needs of international passengers, IndiGo is introducing IndiGoStretch, a premium economy-style service on select long-haul flights. This includes:

  • Extra legroom seating
  • Enhanced meal options
  • Priority boarding and check-in

This move bridges the gap between budget travel and comfort, allowing business and leisure travelers a more convenient long-haul experience without the premium price tag of full-service carriers.

📈 IndiGo’s Vision 2025: Transforming India’s Aviation Landscape

IndiGo’s new direct route to London is part of a broader transformation strategy to become a globally competitive airline while retaining its cost-leadership model. This vision is not only beneficial for passengers but also crucial for the Indian aviation industry, which is expected to become the third-largest in the world by 2030, as per the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Key Goals by 2025–2030:

  • Global market expansion
  • Affordable nonstop international travel
  • MRO leadership in South Asia
  • Fleet size crossing 500 aircraft
  • 40% revenue from international route
