Wizz Air Expands European Network with Early Tel Aviv Return and Major Bucharest Growth

Wizz Air resumes Tel Aviv flights early and expands its Bucharest network with new routes and aircraft, strengthening low-cost travel options in Europe and Israel.

In a bold move reinforcing its position as a leader in low-cost aviation, Wizz Air has announced the early resumption of flights to Tel Aviv, Israel, and a significant expansion of its operations in Bucharest, Romania. The airline’s strategic decisions come as part of a broader recovery effort in European air travel and reflect the carrier’s ability to adapt swiftly to growing demand and evolving market conditions.

Early Return to Tel Aviv Reflects Rising Regional Demand

Starting 8 August 2025, Wizz Air will restart its Tel Aviv operations more than a month ahead of schedule. The accelerated return follows a rebound in demand for flights to and from Israel, especially from European cities where tourism to the Middle East is gaining momentum again.

Initially, Wizz Air will operate routes from Tel Aviv to Budapest, Larnaca, and Milan, with additional services from London Luton, Abu Dhabi, and Vienna launching by September. These routes are expected to serve both leisure and business travelers looking for affordable options to access Israel’s historic and economic hubs.

Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport is once again emerging as a key node for regional travel, and Wizz Air’s relaunch adds valuable capacity at a time when airlines globally are recalibrating their Middle Eastern services. According to Israel’s Ministry of Tourism, the country saw a 19% increase in European tourist arrivals in early 2025, a trend Wizz Air aims to capitalize on.

Bucharest Expansion: New Aircraft and Dual-Airport Strategy

Complementing its Israel comeback, Wizz Air is aggressively expanding its footprint in Bucharest, one of its most important markets in Eastern Europe. Beginning October 2025, the airline will station a second Airbus A321ceo at Bucharest Băneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport (BBU), increasing both passenger capacity and operational efficiency.

The airline will transfer nine routes from Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) to Băneasa Airport, with five of these routes exclusively departing from Băneasa. These include:

  • Basel
  • Frankfurt
  • Memmingen
  • Nice
  • Athens

Four other popular destinations—Milan Bergamo, Barcelona, Brussels-Charleroi, and Turin—will now be served from both airports, giving passengers greater flexibility and ease of access, especially those located closer to Bucharest’s city center.

In addition, Wizz Air will launch six new routes from Otopeni Airport to:

  • Brindisi
  • Cologne
  • Gdansk
  • Porto
  • Pescara
  • Bratislava

These destinations mark a notable enhancement to Romania’s international air connectivity and further solidify Wizz Air’s commitment to the country, where it has operated since 2006. According to Romania’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the addition of new destinations contributes directly to regional tourism growth and economic mobility.

Romania: A Strategic Low-Cost Aviation Hub

Romania continues to serve as a vital aviation hub for Wizz Air, currently supporting operations across 13 airports with flights to 75 destinations in 25 countries. The strategic shift of some routes to Băneasa is aimed at decongesting Otopeni, while improving accessibility for travelers based in Bucharest’s northern districts.

Wizz Air’s growing investment in Romanian infrastructure, including aircraft allocation and airport partnerships, reinforces its strategy to build a resilient and extensive route network in Central and Eastern Europe.

Environmental Commitment and Passenger-Centric Services

Wizz Air’s network expansion is powered by one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets in Europe, largely comprised of Airbus A321neo and A321ceo aircraft. This commitment supports the airline’s mission to operate with the lowest carbon emissions per passenger among its European peers, aligning with global aviation sustainability goals.

Additionally, Wizz Air’s user-friendly digital platforms allow travelers to manage bookings, check in, and select services online, supporting a seamless low-cost travel experience.

Strengthening European Regional Connectivity

The developments in Tel Aviv and Bucharest form part of Wizz Air’s wider plan to grow its route map to over 830 routes across 51 countries, positioning it as one of Europe’s most dynamic and affordable carriers. The airline’s fast-paced growth reflects a broader shift in traveler behavior, favoring more flexible, cost-effective, and environmentally mindful travel options.

Whether for a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, a beach escape in Larnaca, or a cultural weekend in Porto or Athens, Wizz Air is unlocking a greater range of experiences for travelers throughout Europe and the Middle East.

Looking Ahead

As global air travel continues to rebound in 2025, Wizz Air’s aggressive expansion strategy in Tel Aviv and Bucharest underscores its long-term vision: to democratize air travel, expand access to underserved routes, and maintain its status as a low-cost leader.

With a focus on innovation, affordability, and sustainability, Wizz Air is well-positioned to shape the future of European travel—connecting millions of passengers to new destinations with greater ease than ever before.
