Dalata Hotel Group Expands into Berlin with Clayton Hotel Tiergarten, Strengthening Its European Hospitality Portfolio

Dalata Hotel Group is set to open Clayton Hotel Tiergarten in Berlin by 2026, marking its strategic growth in Europe with a full-service, 274-room upscale hotel.

In a significant step toward broadening its presence across Europe, Dalata Hotel Group, Ireland’s largest hotel operator, has confirmed plans to launch a new Clayton Hotel in the heart of Berlin. Slated to open in late 2026, the upcoming Clayton Hotel Tiergarten will become the group’s second hotel in Germany and its fourth in Continental Europe, as the company accelerates its expansion into high-demand travel markets.

The forthcoming 4-star hotel will be developed in partnership with Deka Immobilien, Germany’s leading real estate investment firm, through a long-term 25-year lease agreement. The project involves the transformation of the former Novotel Berlin Am Tiergarten, which is undergoing an 18-month comprehensive refurbishment to meet the premium standards of Dalata’s Clayton brand.

Strategic Investment in Berlin’s Premier Location

Located in the Tiergarten district, one of Berlin’s most central and culturally vibrant areas, the hotel will offer convenient access to major business hubs, embassies, leisure attractions, and transport links. Its proximity to the iconic Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Zoo, and Potsdamer Platz makes it an ideal location for both corporate and leisure travelers.

Dalata’s Deputy CEO Shane Casserly emphasized the strategic relevance of Berlin to the group’s European ambitions.

“Berlin’s dynamic blend of culture, commerce, and tourism makes it a crucial destination in our growth strategy. We’re excited to bring the Clayton brand to Germany’s capital city, offering guests our signature blend of service, style, and comfort.”

Features and Facilities to Cater to All Travelers

The Clayton Hotel Tiergarten will offer 274 contemporary rooms, each designed to deliver a seamless experience for modern travelers. The interiors will blend contemporary European aesthetics with functional layouts, providing the comfort expected from a full-service 4-star hotel.

The property will include:

  • A restaurant and bar with curated local and international menus
  • A dedicated meeting and events center, outfitted with state-of-the-art technology
  • A wellness area featuring a sauna, steam room, and fitness center
  • High-speed internet, concierge services, and 24-hour reception

By offering a well-rounded set of amenities, the hotel is positioned to meet the needs of both business professionals attending conferences and tourists exploring Berlin’s rich cultural heritage.

Why Berlin is a Strategic Win

Berlin continues to be one of Europe’s top destinations, welcoming over 14 million visitors in 2019, according to Germany’s Federal Statistical Office. The city is home to international headquarters, tech startups, and global NGOs, making it a hub for commerce and cultural diplomacy. Additionally, Berlin’s dynamic art scene, music festivals, and historic landmarks attract millions of leisure travelers annually.

Dalata’s decision to invest in Berlin reflects its broader vision of capturing value in markets with high visitor volume and diversified demand sources. By entering into a long-term agreement with Deka Immobilien, the group ensures both operational stability and real estate value creation.

“Our collaboration with Deka is not just a lease—it’s a strategic partnership rooted in a shared vision for hospitality excellence,” added Casserly.

Elevating the Clayton Brand in Europe

The expansion into Berlin strengthens Dalata’s footprint across major European cities, following the successful launch of hotels in Amsterdam, London, and Düsseldorf. The Clayton brand has earned a strong reputation for its reliable guest service, smart interiors, and elevated dining, making it a favorite among urban travelers.

The addition of Berlin will diversify the company’s portfolio and enhance its presence in Continental Europe’s most competitive hotel markets.

Dalata CEO Dermot Crowley previously highlighted the group’s ambition to double its European footprint by the end of the decade. With the Berlin project on track, the company is moving closer to that goal while maintaining its commitment to sustainable hotel operations and local employment generation.

Sustainability and Community Impact

The hotel’s renovation will include energy-efficient upgrades, in line with Dalata’s sustainability objectives. The group is focused on reducing carbon emissions, enhancing water efficiency, and adopting circular economy practices in hotel operations across all properties.

Once operational, the hotel is expected to create over 100 local jobs, contributing to the economic vitality of Berlin’s Tiergarten district and offering opportunities for local talent in hospitality and service management.

Looking Ahead: Dalata’s European Momentum

The Clayton Hotel Tiergarten represents more than just a new address—it’s a signal of Dalata’s long-term commitment to reshaping the European hospitality landscape. As global travel rebounds and Berlin’s tourism and business sectors thrive post-pandemic, Dalata is strategically positioning itself to capitalize on renewed travel demand.

The group’s focus remains on delivering high-quality accommodation with warm Irish hospitality, reimagined for cosmopolitan cities. With its established track record and growing network of trusted partners, Dalata Hotel Group is set to play a major role in Europe’s next chapter of travel and hospitality.
