Plamondon Hospitality’s Landmark Hotel and Conference Center Set to Transform Downtown Frederick, Maryland: What You Need to Know

Plamondon Hospitality’s Landmark Hotel and Conference Center Set to Transform Downtown Frederick, Maryland

Plamondon Hospitality Partners has taken a bold step toward reshaping the economic and cultural heartbeat of Frederick, Maryland, with the acquisition of a vital land parcel in the city’s downtown. Finalized on June 12, the purchase unlocks a long-anticipated vision—a state-of-the-art, full-service hotel and conference center designed to revitalize the region’s hospitality infrastructure and elevate Frederick’s stature as a top-tier event destination.

This milestone acquisition, years in the making, marks a transition from concept to construction, with groundbreaking anticipated later this year. The move comes amid increasing demand for premium accommodation and event spaces in the city, and it positions Plamondon Hospitality as the driving force behind a transformative tourism project expected to attract business travelers, event planners, and leisure guests alike.

A Vision Years in the Making

The recently acquired site was first identified in 2012 as part of a competitive Request for Proposals (RFP) from the City of Frederick. The RFP sought a private-public partnership capable of delivering a premier hotel and conference center that could fill a critical void in the city’s infrastructure. Since then, the project has undergone extensive planning and negotiations involving city, county, and state leaders.

Peter Plamondon Jr., Co-President of Plamondon Hospitality Partners, emphasized the importance of the land purchase:
“Now that we’ve secured ownership of the site, we can take full control of the next phase. This isn’t just land—it’s a foundation for Frederick’s future.”

The parcel, historically owned by the Randall family, is a linchpin within a broader redevelopment plan that includes adjacent historic structures, all being reimagined into dynamic commercial and entertainment venues.

The Development in Context

The hotel and conference center will be constructed on the newly acquired land, strategically surrounding two notable existing structures—the Trolley Building and the former Fraternal Order of Eagles building. Though managed independently, both buildings are integral to the district’s transformation.

The Trolley Building, located at 200 E Patrick Street, is being converted into a mixed-use commercial space with completion targeted for 2026. Nearby, the Eagles Building at 216 E Patrick Street is undergoing a luxurious metamorphosis into “The Banyan,” a destination featuring a stylish rooftop bar, dining venue, and event space.

William Randall, President of Randall CAP, shared his family’s enthusiasm for the collaboration:
“Our family has owned parts of 200 E Patrick Street for over two centuries. We’re thrilled to partner with Plamondon Hospitality in realizing a shared vision that uplifts Downtown Frederick.”

What’s Coming: A Premier Destination for Events and Travel

The planned hotel and conference center will introduce a modern, versatile facility to Downtown Frederick—one capable of hosting corporate conferences, weddings, social functions, and large-scale public events. As the city currently lacks such infrastructure, this development will fill a pressing gap and provide much-needed support for Frederick’s tourism and economic goals.

Features of the hotel are expected to include upscale guest accommodations, premium dining, wellness amenities, flexible meeting spaces, and cutting-edge event facilities. The structure’s design will integrate seamlessly into the character of Frederick’s historic core, complementing the city’s existing charm while delivering contemporary hospitality excellence.

“This is about bringing something to Frederick that doesn’t exist today,” said Peter Plamondon. “It’s a shared vision driven by public and private investment, and we’re finally ready to bring it to life.”

Economic and Community Impact

Beyond its tourism benefits, the project promises significant economic uplift. Local officials anticipate job creation across construction, hospitality, and service sectors, along with increased business for local restaurants, retailers, and event vendors. Once operational, the venue is expected to draw regional and national attention, firmly placing Frederick on the map as a competitive destination for conferences and tourism.

Jeff Plamondon, Director of Real Estate and Business Development at Plamondon Hospitality, highlighted the collaboration required to bring the project to this point:
“We’re deeply grateful to our State, County, and City partners. Their belief in the project has helped us overcome every obstacle to reach this critical milestone.”

A Catalyst for Downtown Revitalization

Frederick’s Downtown has long been admired for its blend of preserved architecture, boutique commerce, and cultural events. The addition of a flagship hotel and conference center will amplify this appeal, acting as a catalyst for further redevelopment and tourism investment. By offering high-capacity lodging and world-class event spaces, the project will allow Frederick to compete with larger regional cities while retaining its unique identity.

Plamondon Hospitality Partners remains committed to community engagement as the project advances. Local stakeholders, business leaders, and residents will continue to have input as construction begins and the final design takes shape. This collaborative approach ensures that the final development honors Frederick’s historical integrity while addressing modern demands.

Looking Ahead

As groundbreaking approaches, the excitement in Frederick is palpable. The full-service hotel and conference center will not only serve as a visual landmark but as a cornerstone of the city’s future growth. It’s a bold vision made tangible through partnership, planning, and perseverance—and one that promises to transform Frederick into a leading destination for business, travel, and culture in Maryland and beyond.
