The Edinburgh Grand Reopens as Scotland’s First Luxury Collection Hotel, Elevating Edinburgh’s Premium Hospitality Market

Scotland welcomes its first Luxury Collection Hotel as The Edinburgh Grand reopens in July 2025, offering heritage luxury stays in the heart of Edinburgh.

A defining moment in Scottish hospitality history unfolded this summer as The Edinburgh Grand officially reopened its doors as Scotland’s first Luxury Collection Hotel, a prestigious brand under the Marriott International umbrella. Located on St Andrew Square in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic New Town, the landmark hotel now becomes part of a globally celebrated portfolio of over 130 unique properties, joining fellow UK destinations in London, Buckinghamshire, and Manchester.

Operated and owned by the Chris Stewart Group, The Edinburgh Grand has undergone a meticulous, phased refurbishment to reposition the property as a premium destination for luxury, leisure, and extended-stay travellers. Originally a neo-classical bank building and the former headquarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland, the hotel preserves much of its historic architecture, including original stonework, high ceilings, grand staircases, and traditional sash windows.

Now boasting 50 expansive one-, two-, and three-bedroom residences, each space is equipped with full kitchens, living and dining areas, and elegant modern touches that complement the building’s 1940s design. Renowned designer Karen Brown, Head of Interior Design at the Chris Stewart Group, spearheaded the interiors, drawing inspiration from both Scotland’s cultural heritage and the property’s mid-century past. Rich textiles, deep colour palettes, and bespoke furnishings create a warm yet sophisticated atmosphere reflective of local craftsmanship.

Refined Elegance Meets Local Soul

The July 2025 reopening followed the completion of the refurbishment’s first phase, which included updates to 33 residences, enhancements to the executive lounge, retail spaces, and fitness centre, and a refresh of the opulent front foyer. The hotel’s signature lounge, The Register Club, has also been rejuvenated, offering guests an atmospheric setting for breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails.

The second and final phase of the renovation—scheduled for late 2025—will introduce the remaining room upgrades and the much-anticipated transformation of the spa facilities, aimed at aligning with the wellness preferences of today’s luxury travellers.

Guests can now enjoy a wide range of curated, hyper-local experiences designed to celebrate Scottish culture. New in-room offerings include tartan pyjamas for children, bedtime poems, traditional omelette breakfast service, and a whisky nightcap ritual. A 24-hour concierge team is also on hand to provide tailored itineraries exploring the city’s top cultural and culinary attractions.

In line with modern travel trends, the hotel is also pet-friendly, offering a dog-welcome pack complete with a branded water bowl, treats, a towel, a blanket, and a custom Edinburgh Grand dog tag—a thoughtful nod to Scotland’s growing demand for inclusive luxury accommodation.

Celebrating Local Flavours and Elevated Social Spaces

The Edinburgh Grand is home to some of the city’s most talked-about food and beverage concepts. The Register Club on the fourth floor is a sophisticated spot for casual dining and intimate gatherings, while Lady Libertine, a stylish café and bar, spans two floors with an energetic programme of live music and craft cocktails.

For discerning diners, Hawksmoor Edinburgh, housed within the hotel, continues to be a destination in its own right, serving premium steaks and seafood. For private events and whisky connoisseurs, The Vault—a reimagined bank vault—provides an exclusive venue for tastings and intimate gatherings.

Location and Global Recognition

Strategically positioned just steps from Edinburgh Waverley Station and within walking distance to Princes Street, Edinburgh Castle, and the Royal Mile, The Edinburgh Grand is ideally suited for both international leisure visitors and business travellers alike. Its central location makes it an excellent base for exploring Edinburgh’s UNESCO-listed cityscape.

Speaking at the reopening, Emre Pasli, General Manager of The Edinburgh Grand, shared:

“Becoming part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection allows us to honour the rich history of this landmark building while elevating the guest experience with curated Scottish touches, exceptional service, and a timeless sense of place. The Edinburgh Grand is not just a hotel—it’s a living reflection of Scotland’s culture and identity.”

The hotel is now a member of Marriott Bonvoy®, the global loyalty programme offering guests access to exclusive benefits and experiences across 30+ brands worldwide.

Prices at The Edinburgh Grand, A Luxury Collection Hotel start at £280 per night, with bookings now available via Marriott.com and select travel agencies.

As Scotland’s inaugural Luxury Collection hotel, The Edinburgh Grand is poised to redefine luxury hospitality in the country, contributing to the city’s growing reputation as a global tourism capital with an emphasis on heritage, elegance, and local authenticity.
