India’s Hospitality Sector Accelerates as Wyndham Announces 50+ New Hotels and Brand Expansion
India’s hospitality landscape is set for a major transformation as Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchising company, confirms plans to expand its presence with more than 50 new hotels across the country. The expansion is part of Wyndham’s strategy to meet India’s surging demand for high-quality hospitality services, powered by economic growth, rising domestic travel, and increasing international arrivals.
Wyndham’s Growing Indian Footprint
As of 2025, Wyndham operates over 70 hotels in India, with a significant concentration in urban hubs and popular tourist destinations. The company is on track to exceed 100 properties soon, according to Rahool Macarius, Market Managing Director for Eurasia at Wyndham. “We have more than 50 hotels in our development pipeline, and it’s growing rapidly,” he stated in a recent interview with Press Trust of India (PTI).
Wyndham’s flagship brand in India, Ramada, remains one of the country’s most recognized mid-scale hotel chains. However, with this expansion, Wyndham is set to diversify its brand portfolio, introducing premium and economy offerings tailored to varied market segments.
Brand Diversification: From Budget to Luxury
Wyndham currently operates 25 distinct hotel brands globally, including Super 8, Days Inn, Microtel, Baymont, Wingate, and its high-end Wyndham Grand and Registry Collection Hotels. In India, the company plans to roll out La Quinta by Wyndham, known for its upper-midscale offerings, and Registry Collection Hotels, a premium brand designed for immersive luxury experiences.
“We’ve got a great portfolio of brands, and we align them with the right market at the right time,” said Dimitris Manikis, President of Wyndham’s Europe, Middle East, Eurasia, and Africa division. This tailored approach enables Wyndham to serve diverse traveler needs, from economy and business hotels to upscale vacation properties.
The expansion aligns with India’s evolving tourism profile, which includes budget-conscious domestic tourists, a growing middle class, and high-spending international travelers looking for luxury and experiential stays.
Strategic Alliance with Cygnett Hotels
Wyndham’s ambitions in India are supported by a strategic alliance with Cygnett Hotels & Resorts, an established hospitality brand in India. Through this partnership, Wyndham will launch La Quinta by Wyndham and Registry Collection Hotels under Cygnett’s operational umbrella, enabling faster rollout and local market penetration.
This collaboration underscores Wyndham’s commitment to long-term investment in India’s hospitality sector. It also brings global service standards, robust loyalty programs, and international branding to India’s expanding hotel market.
India’s Booming Tourism Infrastructure
India’s hotel sector is riding a wave of optimism fueled by economic stability, improved air connectivity, and tourism-friendly government initiatives. According to the Ministry of Tourism, India welcomed over 9 million foreign tourists in 2023, a number expected to rise significantly by 2027. The government’s National Tourism Policy and programs like Dekho Apna Desh aim to promote both international and domestic travel.
Speaking about India’s potential, Manikis emphasized the need for enhanced global marketing and simplified travel processes. “More direct international flights and easier visa access will boost inbound tourism,” he said.
India’s Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, such as Pune, Lucknow, Kochi, and Jaipur, are also emerging as investment hotspots due to infrastructure upgrades and rising demand for business and leisure travel.
Wyndham’s Global Vision Meets India’s Local Growth
Wyndham operates over 9,300 hotels across nearly 95 countries, but its strategy in India is unique. The focus is on scalable growth with locally relevant offerings. India’s rich cultural heritage, varied landscapes, and booming millennial travel segment make it one of the top priority markets globally.
By leveraging India’s demographic advantage, Wyndham is set to tap into increasing travel aspirations and growing disposable income among Indian consumers. The rise of eco-tourism, spiritual retreats, and experiential travel also aligns well with Wyndham’s brand ethos, especially for its premium and boutique collections.
Sustainability and Tech-Focused Hospitality
As part of its long-term strategy, Wyndham is incorporating sustainability and digital transformation into its India operations. New properties are expected to adhere to green building standards, include energy-efficient technologies, and offer contactless check-in/check-out systems.
Wyndham Rewards, the company’s global loyalty program, will also play a significant role in customer acquisition and retention, especially among young Indian travelers and business executives seeking global consistency and perks.
Conclusion: India as Wyndham’s Next Hospitality Powerhouse
India’s hospitality market is poised for exponential growth, and Wyndham’s expansion signals strong international confidence in the country’s tourism trajectory. By introducing global brands, enhancing midscale and luxury hotel offerings, and investing in secondary cities, Wyndham is not only increasing its Indian footprint but also helping shape India’s tourism infrastructure for a more inclusive and globally competitive future.
With government backing, rising traveler demand, and an improving ease of doing business, India is emerging as a hospitality powerhouse, and Wyndham is positioning itself at the heart of this transformation.
