As India enters its most celebrated festive season, Indian Railways has announced an extensive network of Puja Special Trains to help millions of travelers reach their homes in time for Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja. With families reuniting and communities preparing for celebrations, Indian Railways has strategically planned both reserved and unreserved special trains covering major routes from North to South and East to West, ensuring that every traveler can reach their destination comfortably and on time.
Managing the Festive Rush with Strategic Planning

Supporting Millions with Efficient Infrastructure
The festive season always brings record-breaking travel volumes, and this year is no different. To accommodate the growing demand, Indian Railways has not only introduced these Puja Specials but also expanded platform management, onboard safety measures, and real-time train tracking to improve the passenger experience.
Station staff and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel will manage large crowds, while digital ticketing platforms and UTS mobile apps will help reduce queues at booking counters. The Railways also continues to add extra coaches to existing trains and operate special freight schedules to prevent cargo congestion during the festive period.
Celebrating the Spirit of Togetherness
The Puja Special Trains symbolize more than just transport—they represent the spirit of unity that defines India’s festivals. These trains carry millions of dreams, stories, and reunions as people return to their hometowns to celebrate with loved ones.
From Durga Puja in Kolkata to Chhath Puja in Bihar and Diwali in Delhi and Mumbai, these services ensure that every family can come together, no matter the distance.
A Step Toward Modern, Passenger-Centric Rail Services
This initiative reflects Indian Railways’ modernization drive and its focus on passenger satisfaction. The introduction of these trains follows the Railways’ broader goals under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which aims to modernize key junctions, improve safety, and enhance the passenger experience through digital and infrastructural upgrades.
By combining advanced scheduling, real-time monitoring, and passenger-focused services, Indian Railways continues to build on its legacy as the backbone of India’s transport system.
Travel Advisory for Passengers
Travelers are encouraged to:
- Check train schedules and availability on official railway portals before travel.
- Use online ticketing systems or the IRCTC app for smoother booking.
- Arrive at stations early during the festive period to avoid last-minute delays.
Passengers traveling with families, senior citizens, or children should plan their journeys in advance to ensure comfort and convenience.
A Festive Journey Across the Nation
The launch of the Puja Special Trains marks one of the largest travel operations undertaken by Indian Railways this year. With both reserved and unreserved options, the network ensures that every traveler—whether a daily wage worker, student, or professional—can make it home for the celebrations.
This initiative underlines Indian Railways’ enduring commitment to connecting India—north to south, east to west—through safe, timely, and inclusive travel solutions.
As millions of lamps light up across the country this Diwali and families gather for Puja celebrations, Indian Railways once again proves itself as the true lifeline of India’s festive spirit.
