AirAsia and TAT Celebrate 16 Years of Skytrax Recognition with Sustainable Tourism Event in Krabi

Krabi, Thailand – June 26, 2025
In a powerful display of sustainable tourism collaboration, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and AirAsia joined forces to host the “AirAsia Skytrax 16 Years Celebration” event in Krabi. Held from June 19–21, 2025, the gathering brought together over 120 key opinion leaders (KOLs), influencers, and media from across Asia to experience the vibrant, eco-conscious offerings of Krabi during Thailand’s lush Green Season.

The event commemorated AirAsia’s 16th consecutive recognition as the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline by Skytrax, a distinction that has underscored the airline’s dedication to accessible, quality air travel since its rise to prominence.

Launch of “Still Winning, Still Gold” Livery in Krabi

One of the event’s standout moments was the arrival of AirAsia’s commemorative aircraft—proudly sporting the “Still Winning, Still Gold” livery—at Krabi International Airport. The aircraft’s gold-accented design served as a tribute to the airline’s enduring excellence in customer satisfaction and affordability across Asia.

The arrival was marked by an enthusiastic welcome, featuring traditional Thai performances and a warm address by Mr. Suvit Suriyawong, Vice Governor of Krabi, who highlighted the province’s beauty, warmth, and readiness to host travelers year-round.

“Krabi is honoured to welcome guests from across Asia. With breathtaking landscapes and a deep commitment to sustainability, we invite the world to experience our Green Season charm,” said Mr. Suriyawong.

Promoting Krabi’s Year-Round Eco Appeal

Over the three-day event, participants explored Krabi’s rich tourism ecosystem—renowned for its emerald waters, limestone cliffs, and community-driven experiences. The opening dinner at The Beach Krabi featured traditional Thai performances, eco-print textile workshops, and wellness demonstrations—reflecting the region’s push for responsible and immersive tourism.

Ms. Parichart Boonclai, Executive Director of the TAT Marketing Services Department, emphasized that Krabi’s “Green Season” (June to October) is an ideal time to explore nature, culture, and sustainable adventure without the crowds of peak season. She highlighted the “Krabi Prototype” initiative, which focuses on low-carbon tourism and conservation.

“Krabi exemplifies our sustainability mission through eco-tourism models like Ban Thung Yee Peng’s mangrove tours and marine activities near Ko Ngai. Safety and environmental protection are top priorities,” she stated.

Krabi’s Global Tourism Status Rising

Krabi welcomed 6.3 million visitors in 2023, and its status as an international tourism gem is growing. Iconic locations like Railay Beach, Phi Phi Islands, and Maya Bay continue to receive accolades—Maya Bay was recently named the world’s most Instagrammable beach by influencer marketing platform Heepsy.

Krabi’s cinematic landscapes have also drawn the attention of Hollywood, most recently hosting scenes from Jurassic World Rebirth, boosting its global profile and appeal among film-inspired travelers.

Additionally, the unveiling of TAT Connex, a new digital content platform for influencers and travel media, was presented to enhance international exposure of Thailand’s lesser-known destinations.

AirAsia’s 16-Year Skytrax Legacy and Travel Deals

The event also spotlighted AirAsia’s 16-year winning streak at the Skytrax World Airline Awards. The airline has carried over a billion passengers since inception, with its success attributed to consistent service excellence, low fares, and expansive connectivity across ASEAN.

Mr. Santisuk Klongchaiya, CEO of Thai AirAsia, reaffirmed the airline’s vision:

“We are deeply grateful for this global recognition. Our mission is to continuously enhance value, convenience, and regional network expansion to meet the evolving needs of travelers.”

To celebrate this achievement, AirAsia launched a limited-time promotion from June 19 to July 3, 2025, for travel through March 31, 2026. The campaign offers travelers exclusive deals on select routes, along with discounted baggage and seat selection through AirAsia’s official app and website.

Krabi’s Future: Where Nature Meets Innovation

Krabi’s tourism strategy is increasingly aligned with global sustainability goals. The “Krabi Goes Green” program, supported by local authorities, promotes eco-friendly accommodations, nature-based activities, and cultural immersion. Visitors can participate in responsible tourism—whether through trekking limestone cliffs, relaxing in thermal hot springs, or exploring marine sanctuaries.

Public infrastructure in the province is also being upgraded to support safety and seamless visitor experiences, including digital emergency systems and enhanced connectivity.

Conclusion: A Model for Asia’s Sustainable Tourism Future

The joint initiative by TAT and AirAsia serves as a benchmark for regional tourism boards and airlines looking to foster sustainable, impactful travel experiences. Krabi’s success story demonstrates that nature preservation, digital promotion, and aviation partnerships can create meaningful growth while protecting environmental and cultural assets.

As international travel demand rebounds, Thailand’s Green Season is increasingly positioned as a compelling alternative for conscious travelers. With direct low-cost air links from regional hubs and a strong sustainability commitment, Krabi is leading the way for eco-tourism in Southeast Asia.
