At the prestigious 2025 PATA Gold AwardsThailandIndia, and China were among the top-performing nations recognized for their transformational contributions to tourism marketing, sustainability, and cultural preservation. Hosted by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), this year’s awards highlight how Asia Pacific’s tourism leaders are shaping a more responsible and innovative future for global travel.

Out of over 100 submissions from 45 organizations, only 20 winners were selected across two primary categories: Marketing and Sustainability and Social Responsibility. Each awarded initiative demonstrated excellence in storytelling, community engagement, and forward-thinking practices—all while driving long-term benefits to the industry and environment.

The awards ceremony will be held on August 27, 2025, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand, during the highly anticipated PATA Travel Mart.

Macao Leads in Marketing Innovation with ‘Experience Macao Limited Edition’

Among the standout winners, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) was awarded the Grand Title in Marketing for its highly creative and digitally immersive campaign, “Experience Macao Limited Edition.”

Blending K-pop collaborationsCGI-driven teasers, and influencer activations, the campaign successfully engaged global audiences with interactive storytelling. A key component of the initiative was its collaboration with South Korean K-pop star Miyeon, whose music video helped generate excitement around Macao’s unique culture, heritage, and attractions.

The results were staggering. The campaign garnered 5.16 billion media impressions worldwide and significantly boosted post-pandemic visitation to Macao. Utilizing a multi-platform approach, including partnerships with KLOOK and various key opinion leaders (KOLs), MGTO elevated Macao’s brand positioning in key international markets.

This achievement underscores China’s growing influence in digital tourism marketing and its commitment to engaging younger, experience-driven travelers through technology and popular culture.

Thailand Wins Big in Sustainability with Ban Na Ton Chan Homestay Initiative

In the category of Sustainability and Social ResponsibilityThailand’s Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA) was honored with the Grand Title for its grassroots project, “Sustainable Cultural Heritage Preservation of the Ban Na Ton Chan Homestay Community Enterprise.”

Located in Sukhothai Province, the homestay initiative offers visitors a deeply immersive cultural experience, including traditional Thai crafts, folk performances, and locally produced goods. Beyond tourism, the initiative supports livelihood creationwomen’s empowerment, and heritage conservation, helping transform a rural village into a thriving tourism destination.

Crucially, DASTA’s project leverages digital tools to connect with new audiences. Through targeted online marketing, the homestay has significantly increased its visibility and revenue, directly benefiting the local community and ensuring the preservation of intangible cultural heritage.

This win reinforces Thailand’s longstanding reputation as a regional leader in sustainable tourism development—a model of how tourism can contribute positively to community wellbeing and cultural resilience.

India Recognized for Sustainable Tourism Leadership

India also emerged as a prominent winner at the 2025 PATA Gold Awards, gaining accolades for its commitment to sustainable travel practices and inclusive tourism development. Although not one of the two Grand Title awardees, India’s recognized initiatives focused on:

  • Promoting eco-tourism circuits in underserved regions
  • Supporting community-based tourism in tribal areas
  • Launching climate-resilient travel campaigns in Himalayan states

India’s award-winning entries highlighted how tourism can serve as a tool for environmental conservation and cultural revival, while also providing socio-economic opportunities in rural and heritage-rich areas.

As India continues implementing its national Sustainable Tourism Criteria under the Ministry of Tourism, these wins reflect the country’s broader push to embed green practices into its booming travel industry.

Setting New Global Standards in Tourism and Sustainability

This year’s PATA Gold Award winners collectively represent the Asia Pacific region’s shift toward regenerative tourism. From cutting-edge marketing to grassroots conservation, the 2025 edition showcases how governments, tourism boards, and local communities are working together to redefine the purpose and impact of travel.

The Grand Title awardees, MGTO and DASTA, illustrate the dual pillars of success in modern tourism—innovative engagement and community-led sustainability. Whether through tech-driven campaigns or heritage-based homestays, these initiatives show how the future of tourism is being shaped by values of authenticity, inclusivity, and responsibility.

All 20 winners will be featured in the official 2025 PATA Gold Awards Booklet, to be published in August and distributed to tourism stakeholders worldwide.

Looking Ahead: Tourism with Purpose

As global tourism rebuilds post-COVID and adapts to the climate crisis, the 2025 PATA Gold Awards send a clear message: growth must go hand-in-hand with sustainability.

From the streets of Macao to the homestays of rural Thailand and the eco-corridors of India, award-winning projects are demonstrating that travel can—and must—benefit people and the planet.

The spotlight on Thailand, India, and China reflects not just their influence in regional tourism but their ability to inspire transformational change. These successes signal a future where culture, community, and conservation are central to the tourism narrative.
