Diwali 2025: Indian Railways Rolls Out Special Trains Between Hubballi, Mangaluru & Bengaluru for Smoother Festival Travel

Indian Railways launches dedicated Diwali special trains between Hubballi, Mangaluru, Bengaluru, easing travel with extra coaches, discounts and comfort options.

Diwali 2025 Indian Railways Rolls

As the Diwali 2025 travel rush gathers pace, Indian Railways is stepping up in a big way to make festival journeys more comfortable, efficient, and less stressful. Recognizing the surge in demand as families return to their hometowns or head off on holiday, the railways has announced dedicated special trains operating between Hubballi, Mangaluru, and Bengaluru. These additions aim to ease crowding, reduce long wait times, and give passengers more dependable travel options during one of India’s busiest travel periods.

Special Diwali Trains: Key Routes & Timings

Several newly scheduled special services have been introduced specifically for the festive season:

  • Train 07353 (Hubballi → Mangaluru)
Departs Hubballi Junction at 4:00 PM on October 17, 2025
Arrives at Mangaluru Junction at 11:15 AM the next day
  • Train 07354 (Mangaluru → Bengaluru / Yeshwantpur)
Leaves Mangaluru at 2:35 PM on October 18
Reaches Yeshwantpur, Bengaluru, by 11:15 PM the same night
  • Train 06229 (Bengaluru / Yeshwantpur → Mangaluru)
Starts 12:15 AM on October 19
Gets to Mangaluru at 11:15 AM the same day
  • Train 06230 (Mangaluru → Bengaluru Cantonment)
Departs 2:35 PM on October 19
Arrives at Bengaluru Cantonment at 12:30 AM on October 20

These timings have been chosen to help travelers reach their destinations in time for Diwali festivities, while offering flexibility in return travel as well.

Train Composition & Passenger Facilities

The festive trains will include a spread of coach classes to cater to varied preferences and budgets:

  • First-Class AC: High-end features, better privacy
  • AC Two-Tier: Air-conditioned, fewer berths per compartment
  • AC Three-Tier: Balanced option for air-conditioned travel
  • Sleeper Class: Non-AC, economical choice favored by many
  • General Second-Class: For unreserved travel or last-minute bookings
  • Luggage-cum-Brake Vans: Dedicated space for bulky baggage and parcels

With the combination of luxury and budget-friendly classes, the trains are geared to accommodate every kind of passenger—from those seeking comfort to those looking for low-cost travel options.

Return Trip Discount & Booking Benefits

To encourage early planning and reduce station congestion, Indian Railways is offering a 20 % discount on return journey fares when both onward and return tickets are booked together (same class, route, and passenger set). This “Round Trip Package” also relaxes norms around advance reservations for return bookings during the festive window—allowing more flexibility for travelers. The scheme went live from August 14, 2025, and travelers are urged to make bookings early to secure preferred seats.

Broader Railway Measures for Festival Travel

The special trains between Hubballi, Mangaluru, and Bengaluru are part of a much larger strategy by Indian Railways to manage the festival rush:

  • Over 760 Puja special trains have been announced across zones to cope with high travel volumes.
  • In total, Indian Railways plans 12,000 special train services over the Diwali–Chhath period to expand capacity and relieve pressure on regular schedules.
  • Zones are empowered to temporarily convert Sleeper coaches to General (unreserved) coaches in times of critical demand to accommodate passengers without confirmed bookings.
  • Additional services in regions like Karnataka include thousands of special buses to complement rail options for travel to and from Bengaluru during the festival days.

These steps reflect a multi-pronged approach to managing travel demand and reducing bottlenecks during peak times.

Tips for Stress-Free Diwali Travel

To make the journey smooth and hassle-free, here are some traveler tips:

  1. Book Early: Secure your tickets as soon as the booking window opens to avoid missing out.
  2. Take the Return Discount: Use the 20 % rebate by booking a round trip early, and get added reservation flexibility.
  3. Arrive in Time: Stations will be crowded—reach well in advance of departure.
  4. Carry Valid ID & Documents: Ensure your identity proof and reservation details are in order.
  5. Travel Light When Possible: Though luggage vans are available, lighter baggage eases movement and boarding.
  6. Check Coach & Platform Info: Double-check coach locations, platform assignments, and boarding times at the station.

What This Means for Travelers

For many people in Karnataka and the surrounding region, these special trains offer a real relief. Rather than facing overbooked buses, long wait times, or last-minute scrambling, passengers now have a reliable rail alternative to reach major cities like Bengaluru or coastal hubs like Mangaluru.

Moreover, these services signal Indian Railways’ commitment to managing surge demand during festivals—not just by adding trains, but by optimizing coach compositions, relaxing booking norms, and offering financial incentives for travelers. Combined with parallel efforts like extra buses from Bengaluru and additional services in other states, the aim is to distribute crowd load more evenly and prevent chaos at key transit points.

If you were planning to travel between Hubballi, Mangaluru, or Bengaluru during the Diwali period, these special trains deserve strong consideration. Let me know if you’d like assistance checking seat availability, alternative routes, or travel from your city.
