Now Emirates Issues December Travel Alert as Dubai Airport Prepares for Record Holiday Rush

Emirates warns of heavy travel traffic at Dubai International this December. Arrive early, use digital check-in, and follow new baggage rules for smoother travel.

Travel Alert

Emirates recommends arriving at the airport three hours before your flight. It further advises passing through immigration at least 90 minutes before departure and being at the boarding gate one hour before take-off.
Getting to the terminal well in advance allows for a calmer start and gives you time to enjoy lounges, dining or shopping options before your flight begins.

Use Digital Tools & Recognised Check-In Options

To help passengers sail through the holiday rush, Emirates is emphasising digital check-in and smart processing:

  • Online check-in via the Emirates app or website opens around 48 hours before departure.
  • Digital boarding passes and biometric registration are available, allowing faster access through smart gates.
  • For those wishing to skip airport queues, city check-in options are provided:
    • A City Check-In & Travel Store in the DIFC business district allows luggage drop-off 24 to 4 hours before the flight.
    • A 24-hour facility in Ajman offers early check-in and baggage options as well.
During December 15 to January 15, passengers of all ages using the DIFC location will earn 2,500 Skywards miles each.

Early Baggage Drop-Off & Home Check-In Services

Emirates is also offering convenient services to reduce airport bottlenecks:

  • Passengers departing from DXB can drop off bags the night before their flight – at no extra cost. U.S-bound travellers have a window of about 12 hours before departure, while others enjoy up to 24 hours.
  • A Home Check-In service is available for First Class passengers and Platinum Skywards members. An agent visits your home, hotel or office to complete check-in and transfer your bags directly to the airport, allowing you to travel with only hand luggage.

New Baggage & Device Rules to Follow

Ahead of the holidays, Emirates urges travellers to review and comply with updated baggage regulations to avoid last-minute issues:

  • Only one power bank under 100 Wh is allowed per passenger and must be carried in the cabin. It cannot be checked in.
  • Smart bags are permitted only if their batteries are removable and the bag is powered off.
  • E-cigarettes and similar devices must be carried in hand baggage and protected from accidental activation.
Staying compliant ensures you clear security without delay and avoid being stopped at the gate.

Make the Most of Your Pre-Flight Time

Arriving early gives you more than just peace of mind. It lets you explore the amenities at DXB: world-class lounges, international dining, duty-free shopping and more. With congestion expected at its peak, giving yourself extra time is the best way to avoid stress.
Use the digital tools, opt for early check-in or baggage drop-off, and you’ll likely sail through and even get a chance to relax before boarding.

Final Word: Travel Smart for a Smooth Journey

With millions passing through Dubai this festive period, the key to a smooth journey is preparation. Use Emirates’ digital check-in tools, consider city or home check-in, and follow baggage rules. Arrive early and you’ll avoid the rush and enjoy a calmer start to your travels.
Holiday season travel doesn’t have to be chaotic—with the right plan you can turn the airport experience into a comfortable beginning to your trip.
