Singapore Travelers Face Rising Costs as Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines Attract Budget Group Tours

Singaporeans face high travel costs, while Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines emerge as affordable group tour destinations this fourth quarter.

Singapore Travelers Face Rising Costs

SINGAPORE — Singaporean travelers planning year-end vacations may find their budgets stretched as outbound travel costs continue to climb. Driven by a combination of increasing airfares, unfavorable exchange rates, and hotel price hikes, Singapore has become a more expensive destination both for outbound and inbound travel. In response, travelers are increasingly turning to more affordable options in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, where regional currencies, competitive tour packages, and favorable seasonal pricing offer compelling value.

According to insights from the Travel Quality Assurance Association in Taiwan, the final quarter of 2025 will present a broad spectrum of pricing trends for group tours. While Singapore faces an estimated 15% price increase—largely attributed to the timing of the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix in October—other regional destinations are slashing prices by up to 10% to attract price-sensitive travelers.

Taiwan Travelers to Benefit From Strong Currency

Taiwanese travelers are expected to enjoy lower costs in Q4 2025 thanks to the appreciation of the New Taiwan dollar and expanded international flight availability. Destinations like Japan and North America have become significantly more affordable, with group tour prices falling between 5% and 10%. This trend is fueled by a weaker Japanese yen and aggressive pricing from travel agencies hoping to boost demand after a post-pandemic travel slump.

Tourism operators in Taiwan report that travel to Japan, long favored by Taiwanese tourists, is recovering steadily. The cost of group tours to Japan is expected to remain 5% lower than last year’s fourth quarter, assuming the yen maintains its current trajectory.

South Korea Tour Prices Remain Steady

Group tour packages to South Korea are expected to hold steady due to a stable exchange rate and balanced supply and demand in air travel. The consistency of direct flights and predictable operating costs make South Korea a reliable and manageable destination for both agencies and consumers.

Southeast Asia Delivers Strong Value for Group Travelers

While Singapore sees higher demand and premium pricing, neighboring Southeast Asian destinations offer major savings. Group tours to Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines are expected to decrease by approximately 10% in price during Q4. These reductions are part of broader efforts by regional tourism boards and operators to encourage travel following the summer lull.

For example, Malaysia’s favorable ringgit exchange rate has made destinations like Kuala Lumpur and Penang ideal for quick getaways. Thailand’s tourism economy, recovering steadily, benefits from competitive package deals to Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Krabi. The Philippines continues to draw beach-seeking tourists to Cebu and Palawan, with tour providers offering aggressive group discounts.

Vietnam also stands out as a rising hotspot, with destinations such as Hanoi and Da Nang regaining popularity now that the rainy season is winding down. However, newly introduced tourism taxes in Vietnam may result in price adjustments for 2026 travel packages.

Global Price Divergence: Europe Up, North America Down

While Southeast Asia offers affordability, Europe’s group tour pricing tells a different story. Inflationary pressures across the continent have led to a 10%–12% increase in tour prices, impacting airfare, hotel stays, and dining. Meanwhile, North America offers a silver lining: stronger Taiwanese currency and the introduction of new flight routes—including to Seattle—have reduced the cost of travel to the U.S. and Canada by 5% to 8%.

Travel to Oceania presents mixed pricing. Tour packages to New Zealand are increasing by about 7%, whereas Australia’s tour costs are down by up to 14%, largely due to greater seat availability and currency shifts.

African and Central Asian Destinations Show Stability

Tour prices to Africa and Central Asia are expected to remain largely stable. However, demand-driven seasonal spikes are affecting countries like Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa, where pricing is up approximately 20% during their high season.

Domestic Travel Prices in Taiwan Remain Flat

For Taiwanese residents who prefer to explore domestically, prices are expected to remain consistent through the end of the year. No major shifts in demand or supply are anticipated within Taiwan’s internal tourism industry.

Travel Strategy for Q4 2025

With the final quarter of 2025 set to offer both high and low price points, savvy travelers can maximize value by selecting destinations where currency advantage, flight accessibility, and seasonal demand align in their favor. For Singaporeans, opting for Malaysia, Thailand, or the Philippines means saving significantly without sacrificing quality. Meanwhile, Taiwanese travelers benefit from favorable currency conditions that make international group travel more accessible than in previous quarters.

Tourism experts across the region advise booking early and monitoring exchange rates closely to lock in the best prices. With inflation, geopolitical dynamics, and seasonal travel demand in flux, flexibility and awareness remain key to affordable and rewarding group travel experiences.
