Wizz Air Relaunches Suceava Base With New European Routes as Romania’s Air Travel Demand Surges

Wizz Air boosts Romania’s connectivity by reopening its Suceava base, adding new European routes, more seats, and modern aircraft to meet rising travel demand.

Suceava Base

Wizz Air has strengthened its footprint in Romania with the relaunch of its base at Suceava “Ștefan cel Mare” International Airport. The move marks a significant step in enhancing air connectivity for the Bucovina region. With growing demand for affordable travel, the airline aims to offer more flexibility and wider access to major European cities.

The relaunch includes new routes, additional aircraft, and increased frequencies. These upgrades position Suceava as a rising aviation hub in northern Romania.

More Routes to Europe’s Key Destinations

Wizz Air has rolled out seven new direct routes from Suceava. Travelers now have convenient access to Bologna, Milan Bergamo, Venice, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Birmingham, Larnaca, and Brussels Charleroi. These destinations were selected to meet strong demand from leisure passengers, business travelers, and those visiting friends and family.

Starting January 2026, flights to Dortmund will operate more frequently. This gives passengers better flexibility, especially for travel between Romania and Germany, a major market for the airline.

New Aircraft Strengthen the Romanian Fleet

To support the expanded schedule, Wizz Air assigned two Airbus A321neo aircraft to Suceava. These additions bring the airline’s Romanian fleet to 41 aircraft. The A321neo offers improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. It also provides a quieter cabin, creating a better flying experience.

Wizz Air plans further growth in Romania. Two more aircraft are expected by 2026, reflecting the airline’s long-term investment in the region.

Over 130,000 Additional Seats for the Winter Season

The reopening of the base has introduced over 130,000 new seats for the winter schedule. This capacity boost aims to meet rising seasonal demand. It also supports tourism and business travel during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Passengers now have more departure time options, making travel planning easier and more affordable.

Airline Celebrates Relaunch With Surprise Giveaways

To mark the first flight from the renewed base, Wizz Air surprised five travelers with golden vouchers hidden in the seat pockets. It was a symbolic “thank you” to passengers from Suceava and Bucovina who have supported the airline since it began operating in Romania in 2006.

Suceava’s Growth Into a Regional Aviation Hub

Suceava has become one of Wizz Air’s most important bases in Romania. With 13 routes connecting six countries, the airport supports local mobility and tourism. This expansion promotes economic opportunities for Bucovina by attracting more visitors and improving access to European markets.

Local authorities have backed this development with major infrastructure investments. The airport has installed an advanced ILS Category III system, allowing aircraft to land safely during fog or low visibility. Plans are underway for a new Terminal 3, apron expansion, and better access roads. These upgrades will improve passenger flow and increase capacity.

Commitment to Low Fares and Sustainable Growth

Wizz Air continues to follow its “Customer First Compass,” prioritizing affordable fares and reliable service. The airline’s ongoing investment in the A321neo fleet supports more sustainable operations, reducing emissions per passenger.

Its modern fleet and efficient operations help keep costs low, enabling competitive pricing even as the airline expands its network.

Digital Tools Enhance Passenger Experience

Wizz Air also focuses on improving the digital journey. The Wizz Air mobile app enables quick check-in, easy booking management, and streamlined access to travel information. This approach simplifies the travel process and reduces waiting time at the airport.

A Boost to Tourism and Economic Development

The reopening of the Suceava base arrives at a time when Romania’s tourism sector is showing strong recovery. Increased flights encourage more international arrivals, benefiting local hotels, restaurants, and cultural attractions. The Bucovina region, known for its UNESCO-listed monasteries, mountain landscapes, and cultural heritage, stands to gain significantly from improved connectivity.

Businesses also benefit from better links to Western Europe, supporting trade, workforce mobility, and regional development.

Wizz Air’s Growing Role in Romania’s Aviation Market

With continuous expansion, Wizz Air remains one of the key players in Romania’s aviation sector. Its strategy focuses on increasing route options, maintaining low fares, and adding aircraft with lower environmental impact.

The relaunched Suceava base is a strong indication of Romania’s importance in the airline’s long-term plans. As demand grows, Wizz Air is expected to explore more destination opportunities and further strengthen its presence across the country.

Outlook: A Strong Future for Air Travel in Suceava

The expansion marks a milestone for both Wizz Air and Suceava Airport. With upgraded infrastructure, new aircraft, and enhanced connectivity, the region is better positioned to attract more travelers and investment.

As Wizz Air continues to focus on sustainable and affordable air travel, passengers in Romania can look forward to more destinations and improved service in the years ahead.
