United Airlines Launches 2026 Nonstop Flights to Europe and Asia’s Hottest Destinations

United unveils new nonstop flights in 2026 to Split, Bari, Glasgow, Santiago de Compostela plus Seoul and Reykjavik—boosting global travel options.

Global routes

United Airlines is dramatically widening its global footprint in 2026. The airline is introducing fresh nonstop routes. These new connections will span Europe and Asia. They respond to rising demand in both leisure and business travel. With this rollout, United seeks to become a leading global connector.

Unveiling New European Gateways

Beginning in April 2026, United will open nonstop service from Newark to four European cities: Split (Croatia), Bari (Italy), Glasgow (Scotland), and Santiago de Compostela (Spain). A daily route from Washington Dulles to Reykjavik launches in May. United becomes the only U.S. carrier offering direct flights to many of these routes. In selecting destinations, it aims to combine cultural, historical, and coastal appeal.

Split offers the Dalmatian Coast’s rugged charm and Mediterranean ambiance. The new link will be the only nonstop connection from the U.S. to that region. Bari provides access to Italy’s lesser-visited Puglia region, dotted with medieval towns and sea vistas. Glasgow’s arts scene and Victorian architecture will gain greater U.S. exposure.
The Santiago de Compostela service opens doors to Galicia’s pilgrimage heritage and UNESCO status. Flights to Split and Bari will use Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, carrying multiple cabin classes. Glasgow and Santiago de Compostela routes will operate with Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets, optimized for medium-haul performance.

Expanding in Asia and Middle East

To scale its presence beyond Europe, United will launch a daily year-round nonstop service from Newark to Seoul starting in September 2026. Seoul is a global cultural and economic hub, making the route key for business travellers.

In the Middle East, United will increase its Tel Aviv service from Newark by adding a third daily flight in early 2026. This move strengthens the airline’s already strong U.S.–Israel market position.

Strategy & Demand Behind the Expansion

United’s 2026 schedule reflects a balance of travel demand trends. It targets cities that blend tourism draws and growing commercial relevance. The Adriatic and Galician regions appeal to cultural travellers seeking less-crowded destinations. At the same time, Seoul and Tel Aviv attract corporate, diplomatic, and tech sector traffic.

Next year, United plans to operate over 850 daily flights to around 150 international destinations. Among these, approximately 41 cities will be uniquely served by United among U.S. carriers. The airline will also reinstate nine seasonal routes introduced in 2025, further enhancing its flexibility.

Impacts for Tourism & Travel

Travelers gain more direct options, reducing transit time and layovers. New U.S.–Europe routes may boost tourism in regions like Croatia’s coast and Spain’s Galicia. Local economies in these destinations could see growth in hotel, restaurant, and hospitality demand. Business travellers benefit from stronger connectivity to Asian and Middle Eastern hubs. United’s expansion may also spur competition, pushing fares and services upward.

Competitive Edge & Market Positioning

With these additions, United is positioning itself as the top U.S. transatlantic carrier. By flying to cities no other U.S. airline serves nonstop, it distinguishes its route network. Higher frequencies to major hubs like Tel Aviv further solidify its leadership. This strategy may influence other carriers to explore nontraditional routes.

Future Outlook

United’s 2026 route expansion signals confidence in sustained global travel growth. New aircraft deliveries and improved operational capabilities enable such scale. The airline’s emphasis will likely remain balanced — serving both popular and emerging destinations.
For tourism boards, airlines, and local governments, these routes present new partnership and growth opportunities. For travelers, they open fresh gateways to culture, history, and business far beyond the usual itineraries.
