Emirates is soaring to new heights, strengthening its global tourism impact. The airline announced it secured 29 Airbus A380s and five Boeing 777s during the 2025-26 fiscal year. This move solidifies Emirates’ long-term fleet strategy while propelling it to the highest annual profit in airline history.
Emirates Doubles Down on A380 Fleet
Emirates’ acquisition of 29 Airbus A380s marks a strategic move to maintain full control over its flagship aircraft. These double-decker jets were already part of its fleet but were previously under lease. By transitioning to full ownership, the airline reduces leasing costs and secures long-term operational flexibility.
As the world’s largest operator of the A380, Emirates now operates more than 90 of these superjumbos. While Airbus ceased A380 production in 2021, Emirates remains committed to flying them well into the 2040s. The airline’s leadership emphasizes that the A380 is vital for high-capacity routes, especially as global tourism demand surges post-pandemic.
Record Profits: Emirates Leads the Airline Industry
Emirates’ financial success has been nothing short of historic. Posting a record pre-tax profit of $6.2 billion, the airline secured the top spot as the world’s most profitable airline for the second consecutive year. Group revenue hit approximately $41 billion, fueled by robust passenger demand and a significant rebound in global travel.
Despite challenges such as regional instability and temporary operational disruptions, Emirates restored nearly 96% of its global network by the end of the fiscal year. Fuel expenses were also slightly lower, thanks to effective hedging strategies, further enhancing profitability.
Modernizing the Fleet for the Future
While the A380 remains central to Emirates’ strategy, the airline is accelerating its fleet modernization. In addition to the 29 A380s, Emirates took delivery of 15 new Airbus A350-900s. This state-of-the-art aircraft is already serving over 20 destinations, offering greater fuel efficiency and a refreshed passenger experience.
Emirates is also undertaking a massive cabin retrofit program, with 91 aircraft upgraded to feature premium economy cabins and refreshed interiors. With an extensive order book that includes 270 Boeing 777X jets, 54 more A350s, and 35 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, Emirates is poised to remain a leading force in global tourism.
