Fastjet Zimbabwe Named Official Airline Partner of Econet Victoria Falls Marathon 2026, Boosting Sports Tourism and Regional Travel

Fastjet Zimbabwe has been named the official airline partner of the Econet Victoria Falls Marathon 2026, strengthening travel access and tourism promotion around one of Zimbabwe’s most prominent international sporting events.

The race will take place on July 5, 2026, in Victoria Falls, bringing runners, spectators and leisure travelers to the resort town for a weekend that combines endurance sport with one of Southern Africa’s most celebrated tourism destinations.

More than 5,000 participants from over 40 countries are expected to take part in the 2026 edition. The international turnout highlights the growing appeal of event-led travel, where visitors build itineraries around major races while extending their stays to explore local attractions, restaurants, hotels and cultural experiences.

Fastjet Zimbabwe’s involvement goes beyond conventional sponsorship. The airline will support travel promotion linked to the marathon and introduce onsite activations designed to engage runners and visitors throughout the event weekend.

Airline Connectivity Supports Marathon Travel Demand

Fastjet Zimbabwe plays an important role in connecting Victoria Falls with major domestic and regional markets.

The airline serves destinations including Harare, Bulawayo and Johannesburg, helping visitors reach Victoria Falls from within Zimbabwe and from one of Southern Africa’s largest international aviation hubs. It also provides regional access through Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.

For marathon participants, stronger air links can simplify journey planning and reduce the time needed to reach the race destination. Direct and convenient connections are particularly valuable for international runners traveling with limited schedules, sports equipment or family members.

The partnership also gives Fastjet an opportunity to promote Victoria Falls as a destination that offers far more than a race weekend. Visitors can combine the marathon with river cruises, wildlife excursions, cultural experiences and scenic activities across the surrounding region.

Big Tree Runway Brings Fastjet to the Race Course

One of the most visible features of the partnership will be Fastjet Zimbabwe’s branded water station at the Big Tree.

Known as the “Big Tree Runway,” the activation will provide refreshments, music and encouragement for runners during the race. The station is designed to add energy to the course while connecting the airline’s brand with the participant experience.

Fastjet will also host a pop-up booth in Victoria Falls on July 4, one day before the marathon. The booth will allow residents, visitors and race participants to explore the airline’s travel options and learn more about its route network.

These activations show how airline partnerships can become part of the wider visitor journey. Instead of focusing only on transportation, Fastjet is creating touchpoints before and during the event.

Victoria Falls Offers a Spectacular Race Setting

The Econet Victoria Falls Marathon is closely tied to the destination’s natural appeal.

Victoria Falls is one of Zimbabwe’s most recognizable tourism attractions and forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The marathon gives runners an opportunity to experience the region through a distinctive sporting challenge, with the course placing them close to dramatic scenery and iconic landmarks.

The Victoria Falls Bridge adds another memorable dimension to the event. For international participants, the chance to compete in a race near one of the world’s best-known natural wonders makes the marathon particularly attractive.

Spectators and accompanying travelers also contribute to local tourism demand. Marathon weekend can support hotel bookings, dining, local transport, tour operations and retail spending across the resort town.

Sports Tourism Creates Wider Economic Opportunities

The partnership reflects the growing role of sports tourism in Zimbabwe’s visitor economy.

Major events can encourage travelers to stay longer, explore additional attractions and return for future holidays. They also help destinations reach new audiences, including runners, wellness travelers, adventure tourists and families seeking active travel experiences.

For Victoria Falls, the marathon provides an opportunity to showcase the town beyond its traditional sightseeing appeal. Visitors arriving for the race can discover the Zambezi River, wildlife experiences and local culture while supporting hospitality businesses and tourism operators.

Travelers Should Plan Early for Marathon Weekend

Visitors planning to attend the Econet Victoria Falls Marathon should book flights and accommodation early, as demand typically rises around major event weekends.

Travelers may also benefit from extending their trip to explore the wider destination after the race. River cruises, nature excursions and cultural experiences can turn a sporting weekend into a broader Zimbabwe itinerary.

With Fastjet Zimbabwe supporting connectivity and onsite engagement, the 2026 marathon is positioned to deliver a stronger travel experience while reinforcing Victoria Falls as a leading destination for sports tourism in Southern Africa.
