Etihad Launches Four Routes in Four Days as Krakow, Mallorca, Damascus and Zanzibar Join Abu Dhabi Network

Etihad Airways has launched four new routes in four consecutive days, connecting Abu Dhabi with Krakow, Palma de Mallorca, Damascus and Zanzibar between June 11 and June 14, 2026.

The rapid expansion gives travelers new direct access to destinations across Europe, the Middle East and the Indian Ocean while strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as an international aviation and tourism hub.

The launches form part of Etihad’s largest summer programme to date. The airline is operating more than 300 flights per day during the peak season, with capacity 10% higher than the previous summer and its fleet expanded by 23 aircraft.

Etihad has also reported passenger loads close to 90% across its network, indicating strong demand for travel to, from and through Abu Dhabi. The four-route rollout adds cultural, beach, family and regional travel markets to the carrier’s growing network.

Krakow Opens a New Central European Gateway

Krakow became the first destination in the four-day launch sequence on June 11. The seasonal route gives travelers direct access between Abu Dhabi and one of Poland’s leading cultural tourism cities.

Etihad operates three weekly nonstop flights between Abu Dhabi and Krakow. The airline uses its Airbus A321LR on the route, providing a long-range narrow-body product designed to offer an enhanced passenger experience across multiple cabins.

The scheduled journey from Abu Dhabi takes approximately six hours and 10 minutes, creating a practical connection for Gulf travelers planning European city breaks and for Polish passengers traveling to Abu Dhabi or connecting farther across Etihad’s network.

Krakow’s historic center, cultural attractions and established visitor economy make the city a strong addition to the airline’s summer leisure portfolio. The route could support demand for hotels, restaurants, guided tours and regional excursions while giving Poland a new direct link to the UAE.

Palma de Mallorca Targets Summer Leisure Demand

Palma de Mallorca joined the network on June 12, creating a direct connection between Abu Dhabi and Spain’s Balearic Islands.

Etihad is operating the seasonal route three times per week, with a flight time of around six hours and 30 minutes. The service is designed to capture peak summer demand for Mediterranean holidays, including beach stays, luxury resorts and cultural city breaks.

Palma gives travelers access to Mallorca’s accommodation sector, coastline, restaurants, heritage attractions and wider island tourism market. It also broadens Etihad’s Spanish leisure offering beyond traditional mainland gateways.

For Abu Dhabi, the route can support two-way tourism by carrying Gulf travelers to Mallorca while bringing European visitors into the UAE through the airline’s hub. Travelers can also combine the two destinations through stopover itineraries, generating additional demand for Abu Dhabi hotels and attractions.

Damascus Restores Important Regional Connectivity

Damascus followed on June 13, strengthening Etihad’s regional network and restoring an important connection between Syria and the UAE.

The route is expected to serve family travel, visiting-friends-and-relatives demand and essential regional mobility. It also gives passengers from Damascus access to connections through Abu Dhabi across Asia, Africa and other parts of Etihad’s international network.

Unlike the strongly seasonal tourism focus of Krakow and Mallorca, Damascus brings a different demand profile to the expansion. Passenger flows are likely to include diaspora travel, family visits and longer-stay journeys alongside limited business and cultural travel.

The service reinforces Abu Dhabi’s role as an interchange point for markets where direct international connectivity remains especially important. It also adds greater regional diversity to Etihad’s summer growth strategy.

Zanzibar Strengthens Indian Ocean Holiday Access

Zanzibar completed the four-day expansion on June 14, adding one of East Africa’s most prominent island tourism destinations to Etihad’s network.

The route creates direct access to a market known for beach resorts, marine activities, cultural heritage and Stone Town. Zanzibar also serves as a gateway for travelers combining an island holiday with wildlife experiences on mainland Tanzania.

For hotels, tour operators, transport companies and hospitality businesses, improved air access can support higher international arrival volumes during important holiday periods.

The route gives travelers from the UAE and Etihad’s wider network another Indian Ocean leisure option while helping Zanzibar attract passengers from Europe, Asia and the Middle East through Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi Hub Gains From Multi-Region Growth

The four launches demonstrate how Etihad is using Abu Dhabi to connect different travel markets through a single hub.

Krakow and Palma de Mallorca strengthen European leisure access, Damascus expands regional connectivity, and Zanzibar adds a major African island destination. Together, they create a diversified mix of tourism, diaspora and connecting demand.

The airline’s summer expansion also includes returning seasonal flights to Mykonos, Malaga, Santorini, Nice and Al Alamein. This broader programme gives travelers more access to Mediterranean, European and coastal destinations during the busiest part of the year.

Etihad’s four-route launch represents more than a rapid timetable expansion. It strengthens Abu Dhabi’s ability to attract transit passengers, encourages stopover tourism and gives hotels, attractions and tourism businesses access to new source markets.

As international demand remains strong, the addition of Krakow, Palma de Mallorca, Damascus and Zanzibar positions Etihad for further network growth while reinforcing Abu Dhabi as a gateway linking Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
