Azerbaijan Airlines Launches Baku–Brussels Flights for 2027 as Fleet Expansion Fuels Tourism Growth

Azerbaijan Airlines will launch direct flights between Baku and Brussels on May 8, 2027, opening a new aviation corridor between Azerbaijan and Belgium while supporting tourism, business travel and wider connectivity with the European Union.

The Baku–Brussels–Baku service will operate four times each week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The schedule will provide travelers with greater flexibility for short breaks, business trips, diplomatic travel and longer European itineraries.

The route represents a significant addition to Azerbaijan Airlines’ European network and strengthens Baku’s position as an emerging transfer point between Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia and selected markets farther east.

For Azerbaijan’s tourism economy, the connection could improve access to Belgium and neighboring destinations while introducing more European travelers to Baku, the Caspian coastline, cultural attractions and the country’s developing regional tourism areas.

Brussels Connection Opens New Tourism Opportunities

Brussels is one of Europe’s most strategically important cities, serving as the home of major European institutions and a gateway to Belgium’s cultural and historic destinations.

Direct air access will allow Azerbaijani travelers to reach Brussels without relying on intermediate connections through other European airports. From the Belgian capital, passengers can continue by rail to cities such as Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp or connect with wider European transport networks.

The service will also create new inbound opportunities for visitors traveling to Azerbaijan for leisure, conferences, government activity and commercial events.

Baku has expanded its profile as an international tourism destination through its combination of modern architecture, historic neighborhoods, Caspian Sea attractions and growing hospitality infrastructure. Improved connectivity with Western Europe can help hotels, tour operators, restaurants and cultural venues reach new markets.

Airbus A320neo Expected to Support New Route

The Brussels service is expected to be operated with an Airbus A320neo, part of Azerbaijan Airlines’ transition toward more modern and fuel-efficient aircraft.

The A320neo family supports medium-range operations while offering lower fuel consumption and improved operating efficiency compared with earlier-generation aircraft. These characteristics make the type suitable for European routes connecting Baku with major regional capitals.

Fleet modernization has become central to Azerbaijan Airlines’ long-term strategy. The carrier has placed an order for 12 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, including A320neo and A321neo models, to support replacement, capacity development and network growth.

The airline has also expanded its fleet through leasing agreements, providing access to new-generation aircraft before its direct Airbus order is fully delivered.

First A321neo Marks Important Fleet Milestone

Azerbaijan Airlines recently received its first Airbus A321neo under a leasing agreement with AerCap, marking the introduction of the larger A320neo Family aircraft into its fleet.

The delivery is part of an agreement covering three new A321neo aircraft. The type offers additional seating capacity and greater network flexibility, allowing the airline to respond to stronger passenger demand across regional and international markets.

The A321neo can support routes to destinations in Turkey, the Middle East and India, while A320neo aircraft are expected to play an important role across European and Asian services.

This combination gives Azerbaijan Airlines greater flexibility to match aircraft size with seasonal demand, improve efficiency and introduce new destinations without relying exclusively on wide-body aircraft.

Summer Routes Strengthen Leisure Connectivity

Alongside the Brussels announcement, Azerbaijan Airlines is maintaining a broad summer network serving established holiday destinations across Turkey, Georgia, Montenegro and Egypt.

Flights from Baku connect travelers with Antalya, Izmir and Trabzon, while seasonal services to Bodrum, Dalaman and the Adana–Mersin area strengthen access to Turkey’s coastal and cultural tourism markets.

Batumi supports summer travel to Georgia’s Black Sea coast, while Tivat provides direct access to Montenegro’s Adriatic resorts and historic coastal communities.

Egypt remains another important leisure market, with services linking Baku to Sharm El Sheikh. These routes provide access to beaches, resorts, diving attractions and winter-sun tourism, while also supporting package holiday demand from Azerbaijan.

By combining permanent routes with seasonal services, the airline can allocate capacity toward destinations experiencing the strongest tourism demand at different times of the year.

Baku Develops as a Regional Aviation Gateway

Azerbaijan’s aviation sector recorded continued growth during 2025, with the national carrier transporting more than four million passengers. Rising traffic has strengthened the role of Heydar Aliyev International Airport as the country’s principal international gateway.

The Brussels route adds another European destination to an expanding network that already connects Baku with major cities across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Improved air access can support Azerbaijan’s ambition to attract higher numbers of international visitors while making outbound travel more convenient for residents.

The strategy combines new routes, modern aircraft and seasonal tourism capacity to build a more competitive regional airline.

When Baku–Brussels flights begin in May 2027, Azerbaijan Airlines will take another important step toward strengthening Europe–Caucasus connectivity and positioning Azerbaijan as a more accessible international tourism and aviation hub.
