Roanoke Tourism Gains Momentum as Hampton by Hilton Completes US$2.6 Million Downtown Hotel Transformation

Roanoke, Virginia, has strengthened its downtown hospitality offering following the completion of a US$2.6 million renovation at Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Roanoke Downtown.

Led by property owner Windsor Aughtry, the comprehensive project has modernised every guestroom, meeting room and public area while delivering a fully upgraded fitness centre. Lionberger Construction served as general contractor, while AK Design Group directed the refreshed interior design.

The hotel continues to operate under Hospitality America, Windsor Aughtry’s long-standing hotel management partner. This continuity allows the property to retain its established operating team while introducing a significantly updated environment for leisure travellers, corporate guests and event participants.

The investment reinforces the hotel’s position within Downtown Roanoke, where museums, restaurants, shopping, entertainment and transport links are concentrated within a walkable urban district.

Complete Renovation Transforms the Guest Experience

The project extended across the entire hotel rather than focusing on selected cosmetic improvements.

Guestrooms received new furnishings, finishes, lighting and updated technology designed to provide a more comfortable and contemporary stay. Corridors and common areas were also refreshed to create greater consistency throughout the property.

Meeting facilities now offer an improved setting for corporate gatherings, community events and small social functions. These upgrades could help the hotel capture more business from organisations seeking convenient accommodation and event space in the city centre.

The fitness centre received new flooring and entirely new exercise equipment, strengthening the hotel’s wellness offering for visitors who want to maintain their regular routines while travelling.

A special reopening celebration brought together hotel representatives, local tourism organisations, business leaders and city officials, highlighting the property’s role within Roanoke’s visitor economy.

Downtown Location Connects Visitors With Roanoke Attractions

Hampton Inn & Suites Roanoke Downtown is located at 27 Church Avenue Southeast, above the Market Garage and close to many of the city’s leading attractions.

The Historic Roanoke City Market, one of Virginia’s oldest continuously operating open-air markets, anchors the surrounding Market Square district. Visitors can explore local produce, handmade products, restaurants and independent businesses without travelling far from the hotel.

Centre in the Square, the Taubman Museum of Art and the Virginia Museum of Transportation are also located nearby. Together, these attractions provide access to regional history, visual arts, family entertainment and Roanoke’s important railway heritage.

Downtown’s restaurants, breweries, boutiques, galleries and live entertainment venues further support short city breaks and weekend itineraries. The walkable setting allows hotel guests to experience much of central Roanoke without depending entirely on a car.

Improved Air and Rail Access Supports Tourism Growth

Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport provides the principal aviation gateway for visitors travelling to the city and Virginia’s Blue Ridge region.

The airport offers nonstop flights to major hubs including Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, New York LaGuardia, Philadelphia and Washington Dulles. Seasonal and leisure-focused services also connect Roanoke with several Florida destinations.

These routes give domestic and international visitors access through major airline networks, supporting business travel, meetings, university-related journeys and mountain holidays.

Roanoke’s Amtrak station provides another important arrival option. Northeast Regional services connect the city with Lynchburg, Charlottesville, Northern Virginia, Washington, Philadelphia, New York and Boston.

The combination of air, rail and road connectivity enhances the hotel’s appeal as a base for travellers exploring both the urban centre and surrounding mountain destinations.

Gateway to Virginia’s Blue Ridge Adventures

Roanoke is widely known as the Star City of the South and serves as a gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Visitors can combine downtown cultural experiences with outdoor attractions such as Mill Mountain Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Carvins Cove Natural Reserve and sections of the Appalachian Trail.

The region is popular for hiking, mountain biking, road cycling, scenic drives and wildlife observation. McAfee Knob, one of the Appalachian Trail’s most recognisable viewpoints, is also accessible from the Roanoke area.

This combination of city amenities and outdoor recreation creates demand from several travel markets. Couples may plan weekend escapes, families can combine museums with nature activities, and adventure travellers can use downtown accommodation before or after mountain excursions.

Investment Strengthens Roanoke’s Hospitality Economy

Windsor Aughtry has more than three decades of experience developing and investing in hotels and mixed-use projects, particularly in downtown markets across the southeastern United States.

Its decision to reinvest in the Roanoke property signals confidence in the city’s long-term tourism and business travel potential.

Hotel renovations can also generate wider economic benefits by supporting local employment and encouraging guests to spend at nearby restaurants, shops, attractions and entertainment venues.

With modernised rooms, enhanced meeting spaces and a central location, Hampton by Hilton Roanoke Downtown is better positioned to accommodate the city’s evolving visitor base.

The US$2.6 million transformation represents more than a property refresh. It strengthens the accommodation infrastructure connecting Downtown Roanoke with Virginia’s museums, railway heritage, cultural districts and celebrated Blue Ridge landscapes.
