American Airlines has launched four new nonstop routes connecting Philadelphia and Dallas-Fort Worth with Budapest, Prague, Athens and Zurich, giving US travellers faster access to some of Europe’s most important cultural, leisure and business destinations.
The services began on 21 May 2026 as part of the airline’s record summer programme. Philadelphia International Airport now has direct American Airlines flights to Budapest in Hungary and Prague in the Czech Republic, while Dallas Fort Worth International Airport has gained new links to Athens in Greece and Zurich in Switzerland.
By allowing passengers to avoid additional transfers through London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam or other European gateways, the routes can reduce journey complexity and create new tourism corridors between the United States and Europe.
American is operating up to 70 daily flights from the United States to Europe during the peak summer season, strengthening the international roles of Philadelphia and Dallas-Fort Worth within its global network.
Philadelphia Opens New Central European Gateways
The new Philadelphia–Budapest and Philadelphia–Prague routes operate daily during the summer season using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.
Budapest and Prague are new destinations within American Airlines’ global network. The Budapest service is particularly significant because American is offering the only nonstop flight between the United States and the Hungarian capital during the 2026 season.
The routes provide easier access to Central Europe for travellers originating in Philadelphia and for passengers connecting through the airport from communities across the United States.
Budapest attracts visitors with its thermal baths, historic architecture, Danube river experiences and growing hospitality market. Prague offers medieval streets, castles, cultural attractions and direct access to other destinations across the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries.
Philadelphia is serving 19 transatlantic destinations with 20 daily flights during summer 2026. The airport’s revised operating schedule distributes arrivals and departures across seven coordinated connection periods, helping passengers move more efficiently between domestic and international services.
Texas Gains Direct Flights to Athens and Zurich
American Airlines has also expanded its largest hub by launching new flights from Dallas-Fort Worth to Athens and Zurich.
The Athens route operates daily and gives travellers across Texas, the southern United States and American’s broader domestic network a direct gateway to Greece. The flight is operated using long-haul aircraft, including the Boeing 777-300ER within the airline’s summer programme.
Athens provides access to Greece’s ancient landmarks, museums, restaurants and surrounding coastal region. It also serves as an important connection point for travellers continuing towards islands and other popular Mediterranean destinations.
The new route makes Dallas-Fort Worth American’s fifth US gateway offering nonstop flights to Athens, strengthening capacity to a country experiencing sustained demand from American leisure travellers.
The Dallas-Fort Worth–Zurich service operates seasonally until early August. It improves access to Switzerland’s financial centre, Alpine destinations and international rail network while supporting both corporate and holiday travel.
Dallas-Fort Worth now connects passengers with more than 230 nonstop destinations. American has reorganised its hub around 13 daily arrival and departure banks to reduce delays, limit gate changes and improve connecting journeys.
Miami–Milan Service Broadens Italy Access
American’s 2026 international expansion extends beyond the four newly launched routes.
The airline introduced year-round daily service between Miami and Milan on 29 March using a Boeing 787-8. The route provides the only nonstop connection between the two cities and strengthens direct access between South Florida and northern Italy.
Milan supports a broad mix of fashion, design, cultural and corporate travel. It also gives visitors convenient access to northern Italian destinations, including the Italian Lakes and nearby Alpine regions.
American has additionally extended seasonal service between Dallas-Fort Worth and Buenos Aires, increasing options for travellers moving between the United States and Argentina.
Together, these additions support a record schedule of 18 daily American Airlines flights from the United States to Italy and Greece during the summer.
New Flights Can Distribute Tourism Spending
The route expansion could influence tourism patterns by directing more American visitors towards destinations beyond Europe’s traditional gateway cities.
Nonstop access can encourage travellers to begin their holidays in Budapest, Prague, Athens or Zurich instead of entering Europe through a larger hub and transferring. This may increase demand for local hotels, restaurants, attractions, guides, airport services and ground transportation.
The benefits can also flow towards the United States. Better international links support inbound tourism, business visits and connecting passenger traffic through Philadelphia and Dallas-Fort Worth.
Travellers still need to consider that several services are seasonal. Those planning journeys outside the summer operating period should verify schedules before booking accommodation or onward transport.
Nevertheless, American Airlines’ new Europe routes provide greater choice, shorter itineraries and easier access to Central Europe, Greece and Switzerland. By linking its powerful US hubs directly with high-demand destinations, the airline is reshaping how travellers plan transatlantic journeys during the 2026 summer season.
