The initiative is designed for travellers who increasingly consider pets an essential part of family vacations. Selected accommodation options across destinations including Gangtok, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kaziranga and Tashigang will welcome guests travelling with their four-legged companions.
The move reflects a broader evolution in experience-led hospitality. Travellers increasingly seek flexible stays that match their lifestyles rather than traditional one-size-fits-all accommodation.
For Summit, the programme also connects pet-friendly tourism with some of India’s most scenic mountain, nature and wildlife-focused destinations.

At the same time, maintaining designated accommodation allows hotels to balance the requirements of pet-owning travellers with guests who may prefer pet-free environments.
A nominal pet accommodation charge is being finalised for applicable room categories. The fee structure is expected to support the additional operational requirements involved in offering pet-friendly stays.
However, travellers should confirm the latest policy directly with their selected property before booking. Summit’s currently indexed official FAQ still states that pets are not permitted at its properties, indicating that its public booking information may not yet reflect the newly announced initiative.
Northeast India gains another tourism opportunity
The initiative could further diversify leisure tourism across Eastern and Northeast India.
Gangtok offers access to Sikkim’s mountain landscapes and Himalayan experiences, while Darjeeling and Kalimpong remain established hill destinations attracting families, couples and nature-focused travellers.
