Hotel Xcaret Mexico Expansion Drives Riviera Maya’s Next Luxury Tourism Boom

Mexico’s Riviera Maya is entering another major phase of hospitality investment as Hotel Xcaret Mexico prepares for further expansion while international hotel groups and established luxury resorts strengthen their presence across the Caribbean destination.

According to the development plans provided, Hotel Xcaret Mexico is expected to begin another expansion phase in 2027, adding approximately 600 accommodations and potentially increasing its inventory from around 1,800 to roughly 2,400 rooms.

The proposed growth follows Hotel Xcaret Mexico’s major 2025 transformation, which doubled its inventory by adding 900 rooms. Grupo Xcaret confirmed that this stage represented an investment of about US$700 million and expanded the property to 1,800 rooms.

Together, these developments reflect a broader change across Riviera Maya. Resorts are increasingly competing through integrated entertainment, gastronomy, wellness, cultural experiences and premium hospitality rather than accommodation alone.

Xcaret builds an integrated tourism experience

Hotel Xcaret Mexico has differentiated itself through Grupo Xcaret’s All-Fun Inclusive concept.

The model connects accommodation with transportation, parks, tours, gastronomy and other experiences across the group’s tourism ecosystem. Grupo Xcaret says its 2025 expansion introduced five additional themed “casas,” bringing the total to 10, alongside 18 pools and more than 20 gastronomic experiences.

This strategy transforms a resort stay into a wider destination experience.

For international visitors, the model means accommodation can become the gateway to adventure activities, cultural attractions, family entertainment and dining without requiring travellers to organise each component separately.

That approach is increasingly important as Riviera Maya competes for travellers seeking more experiential holidays.

Luxury all-inclusive demand reshapes Riviera Maya

Hotel Xcaret is not the only property changing the region’s hospitality landscape.

Hyatt is preparing Park Hyatt Riviera Maya, an all-inclusive luxury resort scheduled to open by the end of 2026 between Cancún and Puerto Morelos.

The resort will feature 148 guestrooms and suites, including selected accommodations with private or plunge pools. Seven food and beverage venues, an open-air spa garden, beachfront facilities and indoor and outdoor event areas will form part of the experience.

Park Hyatt’s arrival illustrates how all-inclusive hospitality is moving further into the luxury segment.

Premium travellers increasingly expect personalised service, sophisticated cuisine, wellness and design alongside the convenience traditionally associated with all-inclusive stays.

Riviera Maya offers multiple growth models

The region’s development is no longer following one hospitality formula.

Large integrated resorts are expanding capacity, while smaller luxury developments are prioritising privacy and lower-density experiences.

Mayakoba represents the latter approach.

Investment across the destination has focused on upgrading accommodation, restaurants, recreation and shared facilities. The transition from Andaz Mayakoba toward Alila Mayakoba further reflects an emphasis on exclusivity and premium positioning rather than simply increasing room numbers.

This creates a diversified hospitality market where travellers can choose between large entertainment-driven resorts and intimate luxury retreats.

Existing resorts invest to remain competitive

Renovations are also becoming central to Riviera Maya’s tourism transformation.

Established properties are upgrading rooms, family facilities, wellness offerings and environmental experiences as new hotels increase competition.

Grand Palladium Kantenah Resort & Spa and Sandos Caracol Eco Resort are among properties highlighted in the supplied development overview as undergoing significant investment.

Such improvements demonstrate that existing hotels cannot rely solely on established brand recognition.

Travellers increasingly compare resorts according to room quality, dining, family services, sustainability credentials and distinctive experiences.

Tourism development creates wider economic impact

Hotel expansion has consequences beyond accommodation capacity.

Grupo Xcaret said its recent growth generated substantial employment opportunities. In March 2025, the company announced plans to recruit more than 2,200 employees as it prepared the enlarged Hotel Xcaret Mexico operation.

Tourism investment can also support restaurants, transportation businesses, suppliers, tour operators and local communities.

Grupo Xcaret has presented its development model as one designed to combine tourism growth with employment, Mexican craftsmanship, cultural promotion and environmental responsibility.

Riviera Maya enters its next tourism chapter

The next stage of Riviera Maya growth will depend on more than adding hotel rooms.

Environmental pressures, operating costs and changing traveller expectations mean resorts must increasingly demonstrate why visitors should choose one property over another.

Experience-led hospitality is becoming one answer.

Hotel Xcaret Mexico combines accommodation with parks and cultural attractions, while Park Hyatt is targeting personalised luxury. Mayakoba is strengthening exclusivity, and established resorts are investing in renovations and specialised experiences.

Together, these developments show a destination moving beyond the traditional Caribbean beach-and-resort formula.

If Hotel Xcaret Mexico proceeds with its planned 2027 expansion, the additional 600 accommodations would represent another significant increase in Riviera Maya’s tourism capacity.

More importantly, it would reinforce a wider transformation already underway across Mexico’s Caribbean coast: resorts are becoming complete travel destinations where accommodation, entertainment, wellness, gastronomy and cultural experiences increasingly operate as one integrated tourism product.
