Hotel Orielle Unveils Bold New Luxury Era on Savannah’s Historic Riverfront

A prominent Savannah riverfront hotel has entered a new luxury chapter as the former Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront becomes Hotel Orielle, Autograph Collection.

The 75-room property is using its new identity to create a closer connection between guests and Savannah’s architecture, artistic heritage, waterfront setting and distinctive Southern character.

Hotel Orielle remains part of Marriott International’s Autograph Collection and participates in Marriott Bonvoy. However, the refreshed identity gives the property a more locally focused personality shaped by Savannah’s history and creative community.

New artwork, guest programming, rooftop rituals and updated dining experiences position the hotel as more than accommodation. The property aims to become a cultural destination where travellers can experience Savannah through design, cuisine, observation and storytelling.

Historic architecture inspires new identity

The Hotel Orielle name draws inspiration from the traditional three-panel oriel window associated with 19th-century architecture.

The feature represents the ability to observe a destination from different viewpoints. It also reflects the property’s intention to encourage guests to notice the architectural details, natural scenery and cultural influences found throughout Savannah.

Its branding takes cues from the city’s Romantic-era design, when craftsmanship and visual storytelling played significant roles in architecture.

Hotel Orielle translates those historic influences into a contemporary luxury environment. The approach preserves a sense of place while giving returning guests a fresh interpretation of the familiar riverfront property.

The hotel will continue serving as a gathering point for visitors and local residents. Its River Street location provides immediate access to Savannah’s waterfront culture, where dining, music, maritime heritage and public life intersect.

Local art tells Savannah’s story

Art has become a central element of Hotel Orielle’s transformation.

The property has introduced installations created by artists connected with Savannah’s creative community, including graduates and former faculty members of the Savannah College of Art and Design.

A large mixed-media installation in the lobby takes inspiration from the marsh landscapes of the surrounding Lowcountry. Another abstract artwork explores floral forms and the region’s natural beauty.

Elsewhere, visitors can discover salon-style gallery arrangements and digital works influenced by steampunk aesthetics.

A 33-foot custom rooftop mural incorporates visual references to Savannah’s maritime history and riverfront identity. The prominent artwork strengthens the relationship between the hotel’s elevated gathering space and the working river below.

These installations are intended to function as storytelling features rather than conventional decoration. Together, they introduce guests to the landscapes, imagination and artistic energy that shape the destination.

Rooftop ritual invites closer observation

Rocks on the Roof remains one of the hotel’s principal attractions following the rebranding.

Promoted as the tallest rooftop venue along River Street, it provides panoramic views of Savannah’s skyline and the river. Hotel guests, residents and other visitors can use the setting for dining, drinks and evening social experiences.

The refreshed programme includes a signature cocktail called The Orielle. The rooftop has also introduced a dusk ritual featuring brass spyglass binoculars.

Guests can use the binoculars to observe passing river activity, historic structures and the changing evening light. The experience reinforces the hotel’s central theme of discovering Savannah through different perspectives.

Additional rooftop programming is planned as Hotel Orielle develops new reasons for guests and residents to return.

The combination of views, hospitality and destination storytelling may help the property compete within Savannah’s expanding luxury and experience-led accommodation market.

Southern cuisine gains a coastal direction

Hotel Orielle has also refreshed its culinary programme with a new executive chef overseeing Rocks on the Roof and Coastal 15 Fish House.

The updated direction combines regional Southern flavours with international influences. Seafood, coastal ingredients and dishes designed for sharing form important parts of the experience.

Coastal 15 Fish House has introduced a menu featuring raw seafood, terrines and composed dishes inspired by Savannah’s relationship with the river and nearby coast.

Making cuisine a central part of the guest journey reflects a wider shift in luxury hospitality. Travellers increasingly choose hotels according to their restaurants, bars and social spaces, even when they are not staying overnight.

The updated food and beverage offering could also encourage greater interaction between hotel guests and Savannah residents.

Hotel supports Savannah’s luxury tourism growth

Savannah attracts travellers through its historic district, architectural character, riverfront activity and reputation for Southern hospitality.

Hotel Orielle’s transformation responds to growing demand for accommodation that offers a recognisable connection to its destination. Instead of presenting a standardised luxury experience, the property uses local influences across its design, artwork, dining and daily programming.

Future plans include further rooftop activities and collaborations with artists and cultural organisations. Such partnerships could deepen the hotel’s relationship with the wider community while giving guests access to more locally grounded experiences.

Membership in the Autograph Collection also connects the independent hotel identity with Marriott’s international reservations and loyalty network.

Hotel Orielle now enters its next chapter as a heritage-inspired riverfront retreat. Through carefully selected art, coastal cuisine and experiences built around observation, the property aims to offer travellers a more intimate view of Savannah and the culture that defines it.
