IHG Transforms Concert Tourism Across Greater China With Exclusive Hotel Experiences

IHG Hotels & Resorts is strengthening its position in Greater China’s growing concert tourism market. The hospitality group is connecting hotel stays with live entertainment, transport, dining, cultural discovery and loyalty rewards.

Its evolving strategy responds to travellers who increasingly build entire trips around concerts and other major events. These visitors need more than tickets. They also seek convenient accommodation, dependable late-night transfers and experiences that connect them with the host destination.

IHG is addressing those needs through tailored hotel packages and partnerships with cultural venues. It is also using IHG One Rewards to give members access to selected entertainment benefits.

The approach could increase visitor spending beyond concert venues. Restaurants, attractions, transport providers and neighbourhood businesses may benefit as fans stay overnight or extend their trips.

Hotels become part of the concert experience

Live performances are creating new opportunities for hotels across Greater China. Large concerts can generate concentrated demand around arenas, stadiums and entertainment districts, especially when fans travel between cities or across borders.

IHG is positioning accommodation as an extension of the event rather than a separate booking. Selected properties provide concert-related benefits, return transportation, flexible departure arrangements and food and beverage offers.

These services tackle common challenges for music travellers. Performances often end late, while public transport can become crowded. Travellers unfamiliar with a city may also struggle to plan their return journey.

Hotel packages can reduce that uncertainty while encouraging guests to explore the destination before or after a performance.

InterContinental opens doors to local culture

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts is extending this experience-led model beyond music. As part of its 80th anniversary activities, the brand’s DOORS UNLOCKED programme connects guests with theatre, exhibitions and local cultural experiences.

InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin links stays with performances at Shanghai Culture Square. This gives visitors another way to combine luxury accommodation with Shanghai’s established performing arts scene.

Meanwhile, InterContinental Beijing Sanlitun connects guests with selected theatre productions and exhibitions at the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art. The programme positions the hotel as a gateway to Beijing’s creative identity.

These partnerships support the growing “ticket stub economy.” Under this travel pattern, attendance at a concert, exhibition or theatre production becomes the starting point for a wider destination experience.

Beijing hotels target travelling music fans

Several IHG properties have created offers around major concert venues. InterContinental Beijing Beichen benefits from its proximity to the National Stadium, widely known as the Bird’s Nest, and the National Indoor Stadium.

Concert visitors can combine accommodation and dining benefits with locally inspired experiences. A Beijing-themed stamp collection activity also gives guests a personalised souvenir linked to the destination.

In western Beijing, HUALUXE Beijing Xinan offers its Spotlight Night package for guests attending events at Huaxi LIVE Wukesong Arena.

The package includes accommodation benefits, breakfast for two, a travel kit and return transfers between the hotel and venue. Eligible concert ticket holders can also receive dining discounts at selected hotel outlets.

Such packages allow visitors to spend less time coordinating logistics. At the same time, they create opportunities for hotels to capture dining and leisure spending connected with major performances.

Late-night convenience shapes hotel services

InterContinental Hangzhou ICC has also introduced a concert package near the city’s main performance venue. It combines accommodation with round-the-clock in-room dining, refreshments for two and late check-out options.

Guests presenting eligible concert tickets can receive additional gifts and dining benefits. These features help create a smoother journey from arrival through the post-concert departure period.

Holiday Inn Shijiazhuang High-tech Zone follows a similar model. Its dedicated package includes accommodation, breakfast and return transport arranged around performance schedules.

Summer refreshments, concert-themed gifts and access to a heated swimming pool add a leisure element. Guests can therefore relax at the hotel after attending an event instead of treating the property only as an overnight stop.

Loyalty rewards unlock live entertainment

IHG One Rewards is broadening its role in entertainment travel. Members can use points through the Rewards Catalogue for access to IHG VIP boxes at selected venues in Shanghai and Beijing.

Entertainment-related benefits are also offered through IHG’s official flagship stores on major digital platforms, including Meituan.

Additionally, IHG One Rewards has partnered with Live Nation Asia across Greater China. The collaboration gives new and existing members access to selected concert-and-stay experiences, ticket giveaways and promotions in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

IHG One Rewards has more than 160 million members worldwide. Its move into live entertainment shows how hotel loyalty programmes are becoming broader travel and lifestyle platforms.

Entertainment travel supports destination growth

IHG plans to pursue further opportunities involving concerts, music festivals, sports and cultural events across Greater China.

This strategy reflects a wider shift toward experience-led tourism. Travellers increasingly choose a destination because of a memorable event, then add hotels, restaurants, attractions and local activities to the journey.

For destinations, concert tourism can stimulate demand during specific event periods and distribute visitor spending across the local economy. For hotels, it creates a chance to build deeper guest relationships through convenience, culture and memorable access.

As live entertainment exerts greater influence over travel decisions, hotels that connect accommodation with the event journey could become increasingly important to tourism growth across Greater China.
