Qatar Travel App Expands Beyond Doha With Desert Safari and Purple Island Deals

Qatar’s official tourism platform is expanding its digital offer catalogue beyond Doha’s hotels, restaurants and urban attractions.

The Visit Qatar app promotes exclusive savings of up to 50%, while its public platform currently presents more than 300 offers and deals.

That inventory includes a half-day desert safari featuring Khor Al Udaid and a stand-up paddleboarding experience at Purple Island near Al Khor.

The additions demonstrate how Qatar’s tourism technology increasingly connects travellers with desert, coastal and mangrove experiences outside the capital.

However, the public listings do not state that either nature activity receives the maximum 50% discount. Travellers and travel advisors must check each product before advertising or relying on a specific saving.

The phrase “up to 50%” represents the highest potential discount across the wider ecosystem. It does not mean every participating experience receives an identical reduction.

Desert and mangrove activities gain visibility

The listed half-day desert safari combines dune bashing, views of Khor Al Udaid, photography opportunities and refreshments.

Khor Al Udaid, also known as the Inland Sea, lies approximately 78 kilometres south of Doha. Reaching the protected desert environment requires a suitable four-wheel-drive vehicle and an experienced off-road driver.

Consequently, the product involves more than purchasing an attraction ticket. Travellers must understand the pickup location, vehicle arrangements, departure time and operator confirmation process.

The Purple Island offer presents a different nature experience. It allows visitors to paddle through mangrove scenery near Al Khor.

Al Khor is around 60 kilometres north of Doha. Purple Island and the Al Thakhira mangrove area form part of a wider coastal nature cluster attracting kayakers, paddleboarders and wildlife enthusiasts.

The current listing confirms that a paddleboarding experience is available at Purple Island. It does not establish that every nearby mangrove activity receives the same promotional terms.

Digital discovery meets operator fulfilment

The main technology development is how Visit Qatar connects destination inspiration with commercial offers.

Travellers can create profiles, save preferences, explore itineraries and access a personal deals section. Qatar Tourism’s AI-powered Trip Concierge also provides destination information and customised travel ideas.

However, discovering an offer does not always mean that the complete transaction remains inside the tourism platform.

Official terms recognise that third-party suppliers may control pricing, payment and fulfilment. Prices can change, while reservation and cancellation conditions may depend on the participating operator.

This creates an important conversion boundary. Visit Qatar can introduce an activity and unlock a promotional benefit, but the provider may remain responsible for confirming and delivering it.

That distinction becomes especially important for outdoor excursions affected by weather, tides, equipment capacity or transport logistics.

Pass and Wallet benefits follow different rules

Qatar operates more than one digital promotion mechanism.

Visit Qatar Pass has historically offered percentage discounts and buy-one-get-one benefits across participating categories. Registration was free, while offers could be redeemed through advance booking or during payment at the destination.

Meanwhile, the Hala Summer Kids Go Free campaign uses Visit Qatar Wallet vouchers for selected benefits. Eligible hotel guests receive a QR code after check-in, allowing them to activate one-time vouchers with participating suppliers.

These systems may appear similar to travellers, but their activation and redemption methods are not necessarily interchangeable.

Travel advisors should confirm whether an offer uses the Visit Qatar app, Visit Qatar Pass or a campaign-specific Wallet voucher. They should also record redemption instructions before clients leave Doha.

International payment access requires checking

No universal restriction preventing overseas travellers from registering or using international cards has been officially established.

The Visit Qatar app is distributed through international app stores, while ordinary registration is available without a clearly stated nationality restriction.

Nevertheless, application access does not guarantee that every third-party operator will accept every foreign payment card.

Travellers should identify who will process the payment and whether advance reservation is required. They should also capture the final price, inclusions and cancellation conditions before confirming.

This is particularly important for remote excursions, where resolving a voucher or account problem at the departure point may be difficult.

Qatar’s visitor growth raises commercial importance

Qatar welcomed 5.1 million international visitors in 2025, increasing 3.7% annually. GCC markets contributed 35%, while Europe accounted for 25%.

Approximately 61% of visitors arrived by air. The country sold 10.84 million room nights, and average full-market hotel occupancy reached 71.3%.

This international scale makes consistent digital information commercially important. First-time visitors may not understand Qatar’s geography, supplier practices or transport requirements.

Clear product terms can help them combine Doha hotels and stopovers with nature experiences around Al Khor and Khor Al Udaid.

The broader app catalogue could also distribute tourism spending beyond central Doha by connecting visitors with guides, activity providers and regional attractions.

Transaction clarity becomes the next priority

Visit Qatar has already built a strong digital foundation through destination content, personalised profiles, AI-supported planning and hundreds of offers.

Its next opportunity is to make the path from discovery to fulfilment equally transparent for every product.

Travellers need to see the applicable discount, final price, transport arrangements, payment provider and cancellation rules before booking.

For Qatar travel technology, adding more deals is only part of the journey. Reliable handoffs between the national platform and local operators will determine whether digital inspiration becomes a seamless real-world experience.
