Minor Hotels has appointed Patrick Manthe as General Manager of Avani+ Luang Prabang, its 53-room luxury property in Laos. He will oversee operations, commercial performance, team development and guest experiences in the UNESCO World Heritage town.
The Swiss hospitality professional brings more than 25 years of experience across Asia-Pacific, Europe and Australia. His background includes luxury resorts, urban hotels and pre-opening assignments.
The appointment places an experienced regional leader at a property where destination character shapes the visitor experience. Manthe will work with the hotel team to strengthen service while developing connections with Luang Prabang’s culture and community.
For travellers, the leadership priorities centre on personal service and opportunities to discover local food, heritage and everyday traditions.
Cultural Connection Guides Guest Experience
Manthe has identified the relationship between the hotel and its surroundings as a central priority.
He plans to support employees in delivering thoughtful service while helping guests explore the town’s distinctive character. This approach connects hotel operations with the reasons visitors choose Luang Prabang.
The destination’s temples, local cafés, boutiques and cultural traditions provide opportunities for experiences beyond the property. Hotel teams can help guests navigate these surroundings through informed recommendations and attentive assistance.
For hospitality businesses, destination knowledge can add value throughout a stay. It helps connect accommodation with dining, shopping and cultural exploration.
At Avani+ Luang Prabang, Manthe’s remit includes developing these guest offerings alongside maintaining the brand’s service standards.
Thailand Leadership Precedes Laos Appointment
Before joining Avani+ Luang Prabang, Manthe served as General Manager of Amari Pattaya in Thailand.
His responsibilities covered resort operations, commercial performance and strategies for food, beverage and guest experiences. The role combined operational management with efforts to strengthen the property’s market position.
That experience is relevant to a hotel serving travellers with different expectations and reasons for visiting. Accommodation, dining and service delivery must work together to create a consistent stay.
Manthe’s move to Laos brings this operational background into a smaller property within a heritage destination. His responsibilities will include balancing commercial objectives with experiences reflecting the town’s local character.
The appointment does not involve an announced expansion of the hotel’s room inventory.
Philippine Resort Experience Adds Commercial Expertise
Manthe previously held senior leadership positions at Crimson Resort & Spa Mactan and Crimson Resort & Spa Boracay.
At Crimson Boracay, he helped reopen the resort and guided it towards record revenue and gross operating profit in 2022. He also introduced cultural and artistic elements into the guest experience.
That combination of financial management and destination-led programming forms part of the experience he brings to Luang Prabang.
For the Laos property, commercial performance will sit alongside team development and guest satisfaction within his responsibilities. These priorities influence how effectively a hotel serves visitors while sustaining its operations.
His Philippine assignments also add resort experience to a career spanning several types of hospitality properties.
Bangkok And Hanoi Roles Broaden Regional Knowledge
Manthe’s regional career includes four years as General Manager of Chatrium Hotel & Residence Riverside Bangkok.
He also held a pre-opening leadership role at U Sathorn Bangkok. Earlier assignments included Hotel Manager at Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn Bangkok and General Manager of Mövenpick Hotel Hanoi.
These positions gave him experience across established operations and the preparation required to launch a property.
His background further includes senior food and beverage roles with Conrad and Hilton. That expertise supports a leadership remit encompassing dining, service delivery and guest engagement.
Manthe holds a Higher Diploma in Hotel Management from the Swiss School of Hotel and Tourism Management. He speaks German and English fluently, with conversational French.
Old Town Location Supports Visitor Discovery
Avani+ Luang Prabang sits in the historic old town, directly opposite the night market.
The location places guests near temples, boutiques and local cafés, supporting exploration alongside their hotel stay. Visitors can also discover cultural experiences and natural surroundings along the Mekong River.
For local businesses, hotel guests exploring the neighbourhood represent potential demand for meals, purchases and visitor services. The property’s location creates opportunities to connect travellers with those experiences.
Manthe’s emphasis on community relationships could help strengthen that connection through the hotel’s recommendations and guest programming.
However, the appointment announcement provides no forecast for additional arrivals, occupancy or visitor spending.
Minor Hotels Builds Its Laos Presence
The leadership change comes within Avani’s wider presence in Laos, alongside Avani+ Lanexang Vientiane, launched in July 2026.
At Luang Prabang, the immediate focus remains the existing hotel’s operations and guest offering. Manthe’s experience will support a property combining contemporary hospitality with access to a culturally distinctive destination.
His priorities place employees and local discovery at the centre of service delivery, connecting hotel performance with a memorable visitor stay.
