Qantas and Jetstar Add Bali and Jakarta Flights in Major Expansion

Qantas and Jetstar plan new direct flights to Bali and Jakarta following an expanded Australia–Indonesia air services agreement. The revised framework permits another 5,000 seats weekly, creating room for additional routes and higher frequencies between the neighbouring countries.

The planned expansion covers Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and Western Sydney, combining holiday connections with improved access to Indonesia’s capital. Launch dates extend from December 2026 into 2027, giving travellers more departure options as airlines develop their schedules.

For tourism businesses, the additional services could support accommodation demand, airport transfers and visitor spending. However, permitted capacity represents an opportunity for growth rather than a guaranteed increase in passenger numbers.

Aviation Agreement Opens More Capacity

The bilateral update marks the first major change to the Australia–Indonesia aviation arrangement in 15 years.

Additional seat permissions allow airlines to expand services within the revised framework. Qantas plans to use approximately 4,500 additional weekly seats across its Indonesia expansion.

The agreement also creates opportunities for airlines developing international services from Western Sydney International Airport.

For passengers, the practical benefits depend on which routes airlines launch and how frequently they operate. More capacity can widen booking choices, although fares will continue to reflect demand, operating costs and competition.

The expansion connects two distinct travel markets: Bali’s leisure economy and Jakarta’s business and onward domestic connections.

Perth Gains Daily Jakarta Flights

Qantas plans to launch nonstop Perth–Jakarta flights on 14 December 2026, operating daily with Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

The service will connect Perth Airport with Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, providing another direct option between Western Australia and Indonesia.

Passengers will be able to reach the Indonesian capital without connecting through another Australian or Asian city.

Jakarta also offers access to onward domestic journeys, making the route relevant beyond travel to the capital itself.

The planned service adds competition involving Batik Air and gives travellers another airline option. Daily departures could also provide greater flexibility for business visits and family journeys.

Brisbane Adds Another Bali Option

Qantas intends to introduce daily Brisbane–Bali flights from 1 August 2027, also using Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

The route will connect Brisbane Airport with Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport, adding capacity for Queensland holidaymakers.

Bali remains a major leisure destination for Australians, supported by direct connections from numerous cities.

The Brisbane addition gives passengers another choice when organising holidays, including accommodation packages and trips built around specific departure dates.

For Bali’s hospitality industry, extra seats could support arrivals across hotels, resorts and other visitor services. Actual benefits will depend on booking demand and the number of passengers carried.

Melbourne–Jakarta Moves Towards Daily Service

Qantas also plans to increase Melbourne–Jakarta operations from four flights weekly to a daily schedule.

The frequency increase would provide more departure choices for travellers moving between Victoria and Indonesia’s capital.

The airline also plans an aircraft change during part of the operating period. Between 28 March and 31 October, the Airbus A321XLR is expected to replace the Airbus A330-200.

The extended-range narrow-body aircraft forms part of Qantas’s wider fleet development.

For passengers, frequency and aircraft changes are separate considerations. Travellers should review the operating schedule and available cabin options when selecting flights.

More frequent departures could make shorter business trips easier to arrange while supporting leisure and family travel.

Jetstar Connects Western Sydney With Bali

Jetstar plans daily nonstop Western Sydney–Bali flights from 15 March 2027.

The proposed timetable includes a morning departure from Sydney and a mid-afternoon departure from Bali.

For western Sydney residents, the service would create another airport option for reaching Indonesia’s popular holiday island.

Jetstar has also announced domestic connections from Western Sydney to the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Bali would join an emerging international network that includes planned services to Auckland, Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City.

Together, these connections would broaden the airport’s mix of leisure and regional travel options as its network develops.

Tourism and Business Share the Opportunity

The expansion gives Australia–Indonesia travel a broader geographical reach, with new routes alongside higher frequencies on existing connections.

Bali’s tourism businesses could gain from additional holiday access, while Jakarta services support commercial visits and onward journeys.

Australian airports also gain opportunities to develop their international networks and serve passengers closer to home.

For travellers, the main change is greater choice across departure airports, airlines and schedules. The announced routes remain planned services, making confirmed booking details essential.

As each operation begins, passenger uptake will determine how effectively the additional aviation capacity translates into sustained tourism and business activity.
