Dutch holidaymakers will gain a new gateway to western Ireland when weekly Kerry–Groningen flights begin on 29 April 2027. SkyAlps will operate the seasonal charter service for BBI Travel, connecting Groningen Airport Eelde with Kerry Airport every Thursday.
The programme will continue until 9 September, alongside returning Monday flights between Groningen and Ireland West Airport Knock. Together, the routes will allow visitors to explore western Ireland using different arrival and departure airports.
Announced on 21 October, the development creates opportunities for regional accommodation providers, transport operators and attractions. Its tourism value will depend on bookings and how visitors distribute their stays.
Two Irish Gateways Shape Summer Holidays
Kerry joins BBI Travel’s Groningen programme as a new destination, while Knock returns following a one-season interruption.
The Knock service will operate on Mondays from 26 April until 6 September 2027. Both routes will use SkyAlps aircraft.
BBI Travel will offer holidays combining flights, accommodation and transport, giving customers an organised framework for exploring Ireland.
For travellers, having two regional gateways creates more itinerary choices. A holiday can start near one group of destinations and finish closer to another.
However, weekly schedules will shape available trip lengths. Customers should confirm their preferred airport combination before arranging additional nights or independent travel.
Flexible Itineraries Support Western Ireland Touring
One option enables visitors to arrive at Knock, explore the Wild Atlantic Way by rental car and depart from Kerry.
This arrangement can reduce the need to retrace an entire touring route to reach the original arrival airport.
Instead, travellers can organise overnight stops around their interests, allowing accommodation and sightseeing to follow their journey south.
That flexibility is relevant for visitors combining coastal scenery, cultural attractions and outdoor activities during one holiday.
Nevertheless, a suitable flight combination does not automatically determine car-hire conditions. Customers should check collection arrangements, return locations and possible additional charges.
They should also assess driving distances between overnight stops. A manageable itinerary leaves more time for attractions and local experiences.
Dutch Market Offers an Established Audience
The new programme builds on an existing Dutch travel market rather than introducing Ireland to an entirely new audience.
Tourism Ireland’s market overview records approximately 200,000 Dutch tourists visiting the island of Ireland during 2025.
Their spending exceeded €149 million, while the average stay reached 6.4 nights.
These figures describe the island-wide market. They do not measure Kerry’s individual performance or forecast demand for the new flights.
Tourism Ireland identifies culture, hiking, cycling and nature among Dutch travellers’ interests. Those preferences provide a relevant audience for regional touring holidays.
For businesses, the opportunity lies in matching accommodation and experiences with those interests while making booking arrangements clear.
Knock Returns After Aircraft Constraints
BBI Travel previously offered Groningen–Knock flights during summer 2025. The service did not operate in 2026 because sufficient aircraft were unavailable.
Its return therefore restores an established connection, while Kerry expands the programme’s geographical reach.
The interruption illustrates how aircraft availability can influence tourism access, even when operators retain an interest in a destination.
For summer 2027, the combination gives BBI Travel two Irish gateways around which to develop holiday packages.
The announced dates cover a defined seasonal window, extending from late April into early September. They do not establish year-round operations.
Regional Businesses Gain New Booking Opportunities
Direct regional access can help visitors begin their holidays closer to the communities they intend to explore.
Hotels, guesthouses, guides and transport providers may benefit when organised itineraries include their services.
However, the scale of that benefit will depend on passenger bookings, overnight locations and spending patterns throughout each trip.
The programme also aligns with Ireland’s wider emphasis on spreading tourism activity across regions and improving seasonal balance.
Fáilte Ireland’s Corporate Strategy 2026–2029 prioritises sustainable growth and stronger regional performance. The route announcement does not establish specific government funding.
Likewise, no published passenger forecast, employment estimate or additional revenue total accompanies the supplied announcement.
Booking Details Will Shape Traveller Experience
Before reserving, customers should confirm departure dates, Irish airports and the services included in their chosen package.
Baggage allowances, accommodation, transfers and car hire require particular attention because the announcement does not provide complete booking conditions.
Visitors using different arrival and departure airports should ensure their transport arrangements support the full itinerary.
With Kerry added and Knock restored, Dutch travellers gain a broader starting point for western Ireland holidays in summer 2027.
