TransNusa Launches Bali–Phuket Flights, Connecting Two Iconic Asian Islands and Boosting Regional Tourism

TransNusa has launched a new nonstop service between Bali and Phuket, creating a direct aviation link between two of Southeast Asia’s most internationally recognised beach destinations.

The new route strengthens tourism connectivity between Indonesia and Thailand while giving travellers a simpler way to combine both islands within one regional holiday. It also supports Bali’s development as an international gateway connecting visitors with destinations across Asia and Australia.

Flights operate four times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, providing flexible options for leisure travellers, families, long-stay visitors and people planning multi-destination itineraries.

By removing the need to transfer through another regional airport, the service reduces travel complexity and creates a journey of approximately four hours between Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport and Phuket International Airport.

Four Weekly Flights Improve Regional Travel

TransNusa operates the route using Airbus A320 aircraft configured with 174 seats, adding new passenger capacity between two tourism-driven island economies.

Flight 8B 541 departs Bali at 8:50 a.m. and arrives in Phuket at 11:50 a.m. local time. The return service, flight 8B 542, leaves Phuket at 1:50 p.m. and reaches Bali at 6:50 p.m.

The daytime timetable allows passengers to arrive with time remaining for hotel transfers, check-in and evening activities. Travellers can also use the regular four-day schedule to arrange short breaks or longer holidays across Indonesia and Thailand.

The route is expected to appeal particularly to international visitors seeking island-hopping experiences without lengthy layovers. Tourists can now move directly between Bali’s temples, cultural communities and volcanic landscapes and Phuket’s beaches, marine attractions and resort districts.

Bali Strengthens International Gateway Position

The Phuket service forms part of TransNusa’s strategy to expand international connectivity from Bali.

Through its Bali network, the airline connects the island with international destinations including Perth, Singapore, Guangzhou and Phuket. These services reinforce I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport’s role as one of Indonesia’s most important gateways for international tourism.

Bali attracts visitors through its beaches, Hindu temples, wellness retreats, traditional arts and diverse accommodation sector. Popular destinations range from the coastal areas of Seminyak, Canggu and Uluwatu to the cultural and natural attractions surrounding Ubud.

Additional international flights can generate wider economic benefits by supporting hotels, restaurants, tour operators, transport providers and local attractions. They can also encourage travellers to extend their stay or use Bali as the starting point for a broader Southeast Asian itinerary.

TransNusa has identified Bali’s potential as a connectivity hub and plans to continue developing routes that support tourism and commercial links between Indonesia and overseas markets.

Phuket Adds Beaches and Marine Adventures

Phuket remains one of Thailand’s leading island destinations, offering beaches, resorts, nightlife, cultural attractions and access to the Andaman Sea.

Visitors can explore Patong, Kata and Karon beaches, discover the architectural heritage of Phuket Old Town or take marine excursions towards nearby islands and coastal attractions.

The direct service gives travellers from Bali easier access to Phuket’s diving, sailing and water-sports experiences. It also creates opportunities for passengers to continue exploring southern Thailand through local road, ferry and domestic aviation connections.

For travellers beginning their journey in Thailand, the route provides convenient access to Bali without requiring a transfer through Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Jakarta.

The combination of two established island destinations may attract couples, families, digital nomads and adventure travellers seeking varied experiences during a single holiday.

Tourism Businesses Gain New Opportunities

Improved air connectivity between Bali and Phuket can support greater cooperation across the tourism and hospitality sectors.

Hotels, destination management companies and tour operators may develop combined packages featuring stays in both Indonesia and Thailand. Travel businesses can also promote itineraries combining beaches, wellness, food, cultural heritage and outdoor activities.

The flight may generate additional opportunities for professional exchanges involving resorts, restaurants, events and tourism services. Both destinations have highly developed visitor economies and can benefit from stronger links between their hospitality industries.

Although leisure travel is expected to drive demand, the route can also support business journeys and regional mobility between Indonesia and Thailand.

TransNusa Continues Asian Network Expansion

The Bali–Phuket launch represents another stage in TransNusa’s wider international growth programme.

The airline is also preparing to begin twice-daily flights between Jakarta and Bangkok on August 6, 2026. That connection will further strengthen travel between Indonesia and Thailand by linking their principal commercial and tourism centres.

TransNusa has indicated that additional domestic and international routes will be developed as it expands accessibility across Southeast Asia.

For Bali and Phuket, the new nonstop service creates a valuable tourism corridor between two destinations with strong global appeal.

By offering four weekly flights, TransNusa is making multi-island holidays easier while supporting airlines, airports, accommodation providers and tourism businesses in both countries. The route further positions Bali as a growing international aviation gateway and gives travellers another convenient way to explore Southeast Asia’s beaches, cultures and natural attractions.
