Vietjet has opened sales for 3.1 million tickets across its domestic and international networks as Vietnam prepares for the Lunar New Year 2027 travel rush.
The expanded programme will operate from January 22 to February 20, 2027. It covers the busiest Tet travel period, from the 15th day of the final lunar month through the 15th day of the first lunar month.
Vietjet has increased its overall capacity by approximately 6% compared with the previous Lunar New Year season. The airline may introduce further adjustments based on booking patterns and passenger demand.
The early release gives travellers more time to secure preferred dates for family reunions, hometown visits and spring holidays. It could also support more balanced bookings around the most heavily demanded travel days.
Tet is Vietnam’s most important annual celebration and one of its busiest transport periods. Large numbers of residents leave Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other economic centres to return to their home provinces before the holiday.
Passenger demand then shifts direction after the celebrations as workers, students and families travel back to major cities.
Nearly two million domestic tickets released
Domestic routes account for nearly two million tickets within Vietjet’s Tet programme. The allocation reflects the importance of air travel in connecting Vietnam’s major cities with provincial destinations during the holiday.
Before Tet, one-way fares from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Vinh, Thanh Hoa and Hai Phong start from VND890,000. Taxes, fees and additional services are excluded.
Flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang, Nha Trang and Buon Ma Thuot start from VND490,000 before applicable charges.
Following the holiday, fares on selected return journeys also begin from VND490,000. Actual prices and availability will depend on the route, travel date and remaining inventory when passengers book.
The expanded capacity should improve access to family gatherings while supporting domestic tourism. Travellers often combine hometown visits with beach holidays, cultural experiences and spring festivals.
Da Nang and Nha Trang are major coastal destinations, while Buon Ma Thuot provides access to the Central Highlands. Hanoi and Hai Phong also connect passengers with northern heritage and tourism circuits.
Early sales support more flexible planning
Peak flights immediately before and after Lunar New Year can fill quickly. Releasing inventory early allows families to compare schedules and avoid relying entirely on the most congested departure dates.
Passengers should calculate the complete ticket cost before payment. Promotional or starting fares exclude taxes and may not include checked baggage, seat selection, meals or other optional services.
Travellers also need to check fare conditions covering changes, refunds and no-show situations. Plans involving family groups require particular care because altering several bookings can increase the total cost.
Vietjet will monitor reservations throughout the sales period. Additional capacity could be introduced where aircraft availability, airport operations and regulatory approvals allow.
However, passengers should not assume that later additions will provide lower prices or their preferred departure time. Early booking remains especially important for routes serving hometown travel demand.
International allocation reaches 1.1 million
Vietjet is offering approximately 1.1 million tickets across its international network during the Lunar New Year travel period.
The expanded programme strengthens connectivity between Vietnam and markets including Taiwan, mainland China, Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia.
Vietjet’s wider network also provides access to destinations in South Korea, India, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic.
International capacity supports several travel flows. Vietnamese residents can use the holiday for overseas vacations, while expatriates and international communities can travel for family reunions.
Inbound visitors may also arrive to experience Tet celebrations, seasonal food, cultural traditions and spring destinations across Vietnam.
Greater air connectivity could benefit hotels, restaurants, attractions, tour operators and airport transport services. International arrivals during the holiday can spread tourism spending beyond the conventional peak periods of individual source markets.
Holiday movement supports local tourism
Tet travel demand reaches beyond aviation. Every additional flight can generate passenger movements across taxis, buses, rail connections and accommodation businesses.
Domestic visitors may stay in hotels before continuing to their hometowns. Others book resorts or organised tours after completing family celebrations.
Destinations must prepare for rapidly changing demand. Airports, hotels and ground transport providers may experience pressure on particular days even when capacity appears sufficient across the full month.
Travellers should allow additional time at airports and confirm terminal information before departure. Checking identification requirements, baggage allowances and online check-in availability can reduce delays.
Passengers connecting between separate tickets should build sufficient time into their itinerary. Airlines may not protect onward travel when bookings are made independently.
Vietjet expands its regional aviation role
Vietjet has developed into one of Vietnam’s leading private airlines through low-cost services, digital booking tools and an expanding route network.
The carrier is a member of the International Air Transport Association and holds certification under the IATA Operational Safety Audit programme.
Its Tet 2027 release demonstrates how airline capacity influences tourism and family mobility during major cultural events. Nearly two million domestic tickets will support travel within Vietnam, while 1.1 million international tickets strengthen connections with overseas markets.
The programme also signals strong confidence in holiday demand. With services scheduled from January 22 through February 20, Vietjet is positioning early booking as the central strategy for navigating Vietnam’s biggest annual travel rush.
