Travellers moving between Hetauda and Kathmandu must prepare for longer road journeys after authorities closed a popular shortcut for one month to support bridge construction and road improvement work in Nepal’s Bagmati Province.
The Hetauda–Kulekhani–Phakhel–Pharping road section has been fully closed to vehicles since Friday, May 29, 2026. The temporary shutdown follows a request from the Infrastructure Development Office in Hetauda to the District Administration Office in Makwanpur.
The closure is expected to affect local commuters, bus passengers, private vehicle users and tourists travelling between Hetauda and the Kathmandu Valley. Around 1,300 vehicles used the shorter route each day before the restriction was introduced, highlighting its importance for regional connectivity.
