Four Seasons Resort and Residences Los Cabos at Costa Palmas has partnered with Whale Shark Mexico to support marine research in La Paz Bay. From the holiday season, guests at the East Cape resort can arrange day trips to swim alongside whale sharks. They can also support conservation through a separate adoption programme, with donations starting at US$100.
The resort says all adoption proceeds will go to Whale Shark Mexico. Guests can contribute without taking an excursion, giving families and other visitors a way to support the work from the resort.
The partnership connects two parts of Baja California Sur’s visitor economy. Travellers staying on the East Cape can include La Paz in their holiday, while a conservation organisation working in the bay gains a new channel for donations.
Juvenile Whale Sharks Draw Visitors to La Paz
Juvenile whale sharks visit the waters near La Paz between November and April. Although the species can reach 18 metres in length, the animals that visit the bay during this period are juveniles.
Their seasonal presence gives travellers a reason to plan a day in La Paz around a marine encounter. Guests can arrange the outing through the resort, with the experience tied to the period when the animals visit the area.
For a family staying at Costa Palmas, the excursion adds a different setting to an East Cape holiday. It also introduces visitors to the conservation work associated with the bay, where Mexican authorities and local organisations have worked to address pressures from fishing and excessive tourism.
Guests Can Adopt a Whale Shark From US$100
The adoption programme is open to all resort guests. Participants receive an adoption certificate and commemorative items in recognition of their contribution.
The donation is separate from the swimming excursion. That distinction matters for groups whose members want different experiences. Some may choose to spend a day in La Paz, while others may prefer to contribute without entering the water or leaving the resort.
The US$100 starting amount applies to adoption donations. Guests arranging the day trip can check the excursion’s price and inclusions separately. The certificate recognises a contribution to the organisation’s work and gives guests a record of the research they have chosen to support.
Donations Support Monitoring in La Paz Bay
Whale Shark Mexico will use the proceeds to support its existing conservation work. That includes monitoring the whale sharks that visit La Paz Bay, studying their behaviour and investigating potential threats.
The seasonal encounter gives guests a brief view of the animals. Monitoring allows researchers to observe the population over time and consider how conditions or human activity may affect it. The donation programme gives guests a way to help fund that longer effort.
Alberto García, executive director of Whale Shark Mexico, highlighted the role of cooperation in protecting the species. He welcomed the resort’s involvement as a way to introduce more visitors to whale sharks while supporting ongoing research.
Wildlife Tourism Extends the Stay Beyond the Resort
Sandra Oliva, general manager of Four Seasons Resort and Residences Los Cabos at Costa Palmas, linked the partnership to the natural setting that draws guests to the East Cape. She highlighted the opportunity for families to learn about the animals while supporting the organisation that studies them.
For resorts, a partnership of this kind can bring a local conservation group into contact with travellers who might otherwise encounter its work only during an excursion. Keeping the donation separate gives guests a choice about how to take part and gives the organisation a way to receive support from visitors who stay on land.
The La Paz outing also gives travellers another way to explore Baja California Sur during a Los Cabos stay. A day centred on wildlife can introduce visitors to a different part of the peninsula and to the people working there.
The Season Shapes When Guests Can Take Part
The November-to-April presence of juvenile whale sharks provides the planning window for guests interested in the excursion. Travellers building a holiday around the encounter can check available trip dates with the resort before setting aside a day in La Paz.
The adoption programme allows participation without a swimming reservation. For Whale Shark Mexico, the value of those contributions lies in what they help fund after guests leave: continued observation of the animals, research into their behaviour and a better understanding of the pressures they face in the bay.
