Hôtel Palais de la Méditerranée Joins Hyatt, Redefining Luxury Tourism on the French Riviera

Nice has strengthened its luxury hospitality offering with the unveiling of Hôtel Palais de la Méditerranée as the newest French member of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. Overlooking the Baie des Anges from the Promenade des Anglais, the restored Art Deco landmark combines almost a century of Riviera history with contemporary accommodation, Mediterranean dining, wellness facilities and major event spaces.

The transformation gives one of the French Riviera’s best-known addresses a renewed international profile while preserving the architectural identity that has defined the property since its inauguration in 1929. For Nice, the development adds another high-end reason for travellers to choose the city for coastal holidays, cultural breaks, conferences, celebrations and extended Mediterranean itineraries.

Historic Art Deco Landmark Joins Hyatt Portfolio

Hôtel Palais de la Méditerranée now forms part of Hyatt’s collection of distinctive independent hotels, which focuses on properties with individual identities and strong connections to their destinations.

The move allows the hotel to retain its Riviera character while gaining access to Hyatt’s international distribution network, operational platform and World of Hyatt loyalty audience. This could increase its appeal among premium travellers from Europe, North America, the Middle East and other major luxury tourism markets.

The hotel originally opened during the golden age of Riviera travel. Its protected façade was created by Nice architects Charles Dalmas and his son Marcel Dalmas and remains one of the city’s defining examples of Art Deco design. The principal façade facing the Promenade des Anglais and the return façade on Rue du Congrès have held historic monument protection since 1989.

Mediterranean Design Refreshes 173 Rooms and Suites

Interior designer Linda Boronkay has reinterpreted the building’s heritage through a modern Mediterranean design concept. Curved forms, tactile materials, pastel shades and abundant natural light create a visual connection between the hotel, the sea and the Côte d’Azur landscape.

The property features 173 rooms, including 28 suites. Many accommodations overlook the Mediterranean, the terrace, the city or the hotel’s swimming facilities. The design aims to preserve the glamour associated with the Riviera while creating a lighter and more relaxed environment for contemporary luxury travellers.

This balance between protected architecture and modern interiors is increasingly important within heritage tourism. Travellers often seek historic settings but still expect updated rooms, intuitive services, premium amenities and spaces suited to longer leisure stays.

Zouzou Restaurant Celebrates Riviera Dining

Food and beverage experiences play a central role in the hotel’s renewed identity. Zouzou Restaurant, led by Executive Chef Sébastien Roux, serves a contemporary Mediterranean menu shaped by regional ingredients, seasonal produce and responsible sourcing.

Located on the third floor, the restaurant overlooks the sea and creates a social dining atmosphere inspired by Riviera hospitality. Meanwhile, the rooftop terrace provides panoramic views across the Baie des Anges, offering a setting for afternoon aperitifs, sunset drinks and late-evening cocktails.

These dining experiences could attract both hotel guests and local visitors, strengthening the property’s role as a destination within Nice rather than simply a place to stay. They also support the wider trend toward experience-led luxury, where gastronomy and atmosphere influence hotel selection as strongly as room design.

Coastal Wellness Supports Year-Round Travel

The hotel’s indoor and outdoor swimming facilities provide two different interpretations of Riviera leisure. The outdoor terrace faces the Mediterranean, while the heated indoor pool offers a quieter option during cooler weather or periods of lower seasonal demand.

A fitness centre, sauna and steam bath complete the wellness offering. Together, these facilities allow the property to appeal to travellers seeking relaxation, fitness and restorative experiences alongside sightseeing and dining.

The year-round leisure infrastructure is particularly valuable for Nice, which continues to position itself as more than a traditional summer destination. Luxury wellness facilities can encourage off-season visits, longer stays and higher visitor spending during autumn, winter and spring.

Major Event Facilities Expand Business Tourism Potential

Hôtel Palais de la Méditerranée also offers more than 18,000 square feet of event space overlooking the Mediterranean. The centrepiece, Salon Riviera, can accommodate up to 936 guests in theatre-style seating.

This capacity allows the hotel to host international conferences, private celebrations, fashion events, corporate gatherings and destination weddings. As a result, the property can contribute to Nice’s meetings and events economy while generating additional demand for airlines, restaurants, transport providers and nearby attractions.

Promenade des Anglais Location Strengthens Visitor Appeal

The hotel occupies an exceptional position on the Promenade des Anglais, one of Nice’s most recognisable public spaces. Guests are close to Vieux-Nice, Cours Saleya, Place Masséna, the Carré d’Or shopping district and the city’s Mediterranean beaches.

Nice also provides access to other Côte d’Azur destinations, including Antibes, Cannes, Èze and Monaco. This makes Hôtel Palais de la Méditerranée a potential base for travellers combining urban culture, coastal relaxation and regional touring.

By combining heritage, Hyatt’s global reach, destination dining, wellness and event infrastructure, the renewed hotel strengthens Nice’s position in Europe’s competitive luxury tourism market. Its transformation demonstrates how an architectural icon can preserve its historic identity while adapting to the expectations of a new generation of French Riviera travellers.
