Hyatt Plans 140-Room Private Island Resort Near Singapore

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has signed a management agreement with PT Citra Buana Prakarsa for a private island resort near Batam. The 140-room Hyatt Regency Kapal Besar Island Resort is expected to open in 2031, marking the brand’s debut in Indonesia’s Riau Islands.

The property is planned for Pulau Kapal Besar, where a lake, mangroves and coastline will shape the guest experience. The resort concept includes pools, a spa and a children’s club, with couples, families and groups among its intended guests.

The partners estimate a journey of around 50 minutes from Singapore’s HarbourFront via Nirup Island. That connection is central to the resort’s appeal as an island break within reach of a major regional gateway.

Singapore Access Planned via Nirup Island

The proposed route takes guests through Nirup Island, where the nearest immigration checkpoint is located. A short onward ferry ride would take them to Pulau Kapal Besar.

The 50-minute estimate describes the overall journey envisaged from HarbourFront. Ferry timetables, service frequencies and boarding arrangements are still to be announced. Those details will determine how readily visitors can coordinate the crossing with a flight into Singapore or a hotel stay there.

Transfer timing will also matter for guests considering a short break. A well-timed connection could leave more of the first day for the island. The partners also intend to attract travellers from Indonesian cities, with specific domestic routes and journey times still to be detailed.

Rooms and Family Facilities Fit the Island Setting

Plans call for 140 rooms and suites designed to complement the island landscape. A spa, fitness centre and outdoor swimming pools form part of the proposed leisure facilities, alongside an entertainment centre.

Camp Hyatt, the planned children’s club, would include indoor and outdoor areas. For families, that creates the possibility of combining time together by the pool with activities designed for younger guests.

The island’s lake, mangroves and coastline give the project a setting for relaxation and nature-based exploration. The partners have yet to detail the activity programme, dining concepts or individual suite categories. Those elements will help families and couples decide how much of their stay to spend at the resort.

Weddings and Groups Add Another Market

The resort is also intended to host weddings, celebrations and group gatherings. Its private island setting could appeal to organisers looking to bring accommodation and several days of activities together in one location.

For an island wedding, the ferry schedule can be as important as the resort layout. Guests arriving from several cities may need different crossings, while organisers need to coordinate luggage and arrival times.

The announcement sets out the intended event uses, with venue capacities and group arrangements still to be detailed. Those specifications will help planners assess whether the resort suits a small celebration or a larger gathering.

Developer Plans a Wider Island Portfolio

PT Citra Buana Prakarsa is developing its hospitality presence across several neighbouring islands. Its plans include Pulau Layang and Pulau Kapal Kecil, alongside its existing resorts on Nirup Island.

The company’s business development director, Tommy Ho, linked the Hyatt agreement to plans to attract international travellers and create opportunities for surrounding communities. Hyatt’s regional growth executive, Bastien Touzeau, highlighted the island’s natural setting and its proposed access from Singapore.

For the Riau Islands hospitality sector, the signing adds an international brand to the development pipeline near Batam. If the project draws longer stays, it could also create demand for transfers and activities delivered by local businesses. The scale of that opportunity will depend on how the resort operates and what guests choose to do during their visit.

Opening Preparations Will Shape the Guest Experience

The 2031 opening remains an expectation under the management agreement. The partners have yet to announce a construction timetable, room rates or a date for reservations.

For the travel trade, the next details to watch are ferry schedules, room configurations and group capacities. A family planning an island break will need to match room choices with ferry times. Wedding planners will need to know how many guests can stay and travel together.

The short crossing from Singapore is part of the resort’s appeal, while the island’s landscape gives travellers a reason to stay. How easily guests can move between HarbourFront, Nirup and Pulau Kapal Besar will help determine whether the resort works best for short getaways or longer holidays.
