IHG Expands Luxury Portfolio With First Vignette Collection Hotel in London’s Canary Wharf

IHG Hotels & Resorts is set to expand its luxury Vignette Collection into London with the signing of Canary Riverside Plaza in Canary Wharf. This comes as part of IHG’s continued diversification of its expanding luxury and lifestyle offerings and further reinforces the company’s reach in one of Europe’s key economic hubs.

The property, to be known as Canary Riverside Plaza, Vignette Collection by IHG, is due to launch in summer 2026 and will serve as the first ever Vignette Collection hotel in London. It also marks IHG’s first ever hotel opening in Canary Wharf, a world-renowned global finance hub of London.

The hotel, which is set to open soon, will comprise of 142 guest rooms and suites with views of the River Thames and London’s skyline. Additionally, the hotel will offer a premium dining experience and bar services, conference facilities with the capacity to accommodate 200 guests, and facilities in an adjacent health club and spa.

According to the hospitality industry analysts, the introduction of the Vignette Collection in London is an indication of the rising popularity of luxury lifestyle hotels characterized by both an independent identity and an infrastructure across the globe. The Vignette Collection differs from ordinary hotel chains in that it maintains its identity despite using the resources provided by IHG.

Canary Wharf has increasingly transformed from a purely financial district into a broader lifestyle and hospitality destination, attracting luxury residences, premium retail, fine dining, and high-end hotels. Analysts say the new hotel is strategically positioned to capitalize on growing corporate travel demand as well as rising international leisure tourism to London.

IHG executives described London as a “natural next step” for the Vignette Collection brand as the company continues expanding across major gateway cities worldwide. The hospitality group launched the luxury conversion-focused brand in 2021 and has since rapidly expanded its global footprint through partnerships with independent hotel owners seeking access to IHG’s scale without sacrificing property individuality.

According to company figures, IHG Hotels & Resorts currently operates 34 Vignette Collection properties globally, with another 45 hotels in development. In Europe alone, the brand already has six operational hotels and seventeen additional properties in the pipeline across destinations including Germany, Italy, Portugal, and the United Kingdom.

The expansion also reflects a broader trend within the global hospitality industry, where major hotel companies are increasingly focusing on “soft brands” and conversion models. These models allow independent luxury hotels to join global loyalty and reservation platforms while maintaining their local identity, architecture, and storytelling-driven guest experiences.

Hospitality analysts believe conversion brands such as Vignette Collection, Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio, and Hyatt’s Unbound Collection are becoming increasingly attractive to hotel owners due to rising operational costs and intense competition within the luxury accommodation market. Online hospitality communities have also discussed how these brands provide flexibility while still delivering global distribution advantages.

The new London property is expected to attract a mix of corporate executives, luxury leisure travelers, event attendees, and international tourists seeking premium accommodation in East London. Canary Wharf’s strong transportation links, proximity to London City Airport, and growing lifestyle appeal are likely to further strengthen the hotel’s positioning in the luxury travel segment.

This signing will further solidify the domination of IHG within the hospitality industry of UK and Ireland. This is because, at present, the company is operating over 380 hotels across the regions, while there are even some other hotels that are being built as a part of its strategic expansion.

In view of the fierce competition that exists between different hotel chains for luxury hospitality within London, the opening of Canary Riverside Plaza, Vignette Collection by IHG is considered to be an important step in the direction of premium travel experiences in the future.
