Japan Joins Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan in Driving Massive Eighty One Percent Surge in Vietnam Holiday Travel Searches

Vietnam’s travel sector is witnessing a major tourism boom as holiday accommodation searches surged by 81% ahead of the country’s extended April-May public holiday break, according to new Agoda travel data.

The dramatic increase reflects growing demand for both domestic leisure escapes and international city breaks as Vietnamese travelers prepare to take advantage of one of the longest holiday stretches of 2026.

This year’s overlap between the Hung Kings Commemoration, Reunification Day, and Labour Day has created an extended travel window that is driving exceptionally strong booking activity across beach destinations, major Asian cities, and short-haul tourism markets.

Japan has emerged as one of the standout destinations experiencing significant demand growth from Vietnamese travelers, joining Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan among the most searched outbound travel markets during the holiday period.

The latest data highlights how Vietnam’s rapidly growing middle class, stronger regional connectivity, and rising appetite for international travel are reshaping tourism trends across Asia.

Coastal Destinations Dominate Vietnam’s Domestic Tourism Market

Vietnam’s domestic tourism market is experiencing especially strong momentum as travelers prioritize quick leisure getaways to beach destinations and cooler mountain retreats.

According to Agoda’s data, coastal cities account for four of the five most searched domestic destinations for the April-May holiday period, reflecting continued demand for seaside tourism experiences.

Vung Tau recorded the strongest growth with a remarkable 101% increase in accommodation searches compared with the previous year. Its popularity continues to benefit from easy accessibility from Ho Chi Minh City and its reputation as one of southern Vietnam’s preferred weekend beach escapes.

Nha Trang followed closely with a 96% increase in search activity as travelers continue favoring the city’s beaches, nightlife, resorts, and coastal attractions along Vietnam’s south-central coastline.

Da Nang also experienced substantial demand growth, registering an 89% rise in searches thanks to its combination of beaches, luxury resorts, cultural landmarks, and strong tourism infrastructure.

Phan Thiet, home to the famous Mui Ne coastline, recorded a 72% increase in travel searches as visitors increasingly seek quieter coastal alternatives away from more crowded tourism hubs.

Meanwhile, Da Lat emerged as the only inland destination among Vietnam’s top five searched locations, achieving a 45% increase in demand as travelers seek cooler weather and mountain scenery amid rising temperatures across the country.

Vietnamese Travelers Increasingly Favor Convenience and Familiar Destinations

The latest tourism trends reveal changing travel preferences among Vietnamese consumers, with convenience, accessibility, and established tourism infrastructure becoming increasingly important when selecting destinations.

Rather than prioritizing remote or unfamiliar destinations, many travelers are opting for locations with reliable transportation links, diverse accommodation options, and well-developed tourism services.

This trend is helping strengthen demand for mature domestic tourism markets that can accommodate both short weekend escapes and longer family vacations during major public holiday periods.

Industry observers believe the emphasis on convenience and flexibility reflects broader regional travel patterns emerging across Southeast Asia as travelers seek stress-free experiences with strong value and ease of access.

The growing popularity of short-duration travel also continues supporting domestic airlines, hotels, transport operators, restaurants, and tourism service providers throughout Vietnam.

International Travel Demand Continues Rising Across Asia

Alongside booming domestic tourism, outbound travel demand from Vietnam is also increasing rapidly. Agoda reported a 9% year-on-year increase in searches for international destinations during the holiday period.

Short-haul destinations across Southeast Asia remain especially popular due to affordable flight options, simplified travel access, and relatively short travel times.

Bangkok once again ranked as the most searched international destination among Vietnamese travelers. Thailand’s capital continues attracting strong visitor demand thanks to its shopping, street food, nightlife, temples, and accessible tourism experiences.

Singapore also maintained strong popularity as travelers continue favoring the city-state for family-friendly attractions, modern infrastructure, entertainment districts, and luxury shopping experiences.

However, Northeast Asia destinations recorded some of the fastest growth rates, signaling increasing Vietnamese interest in longer regional leisure trips.

Japan Emerges as a Leading Destination for Vietnamese Travelers

Tokyo experienced one of the strongest increases in international search demand, recording a 49% rise compared with the previous year.

Japan’s growing popularity among Vietnamese travelers reflects increasing regional air connectivity, stronger tourism marketing, and rising interest in Japanese culture, cuisine, shopping, and seasonal experiences.

Tokyo’s mix of historic temples, modern entertainment districts, advanced technology, and world-class dining continues attracting travelers seeking immersive urban experiences beyond traditional Southeast Asian holiday markets.

Japan’s tourism sector has also benefited from growing demand across Asia as travelers increasingly seek premium experiences, cultural exploration, and longer-haul regional travel opportunities.

The surge in Japanese travel interest further highlights how Vietnamese outbound tourism is evolving beyond traditional short-haul destinations toward more diverse and experience-driven travel patterns.

Seoul and Taipei Continue Gaining Momentum

South Korea’s capital Seoul recorded a 20% increase in search demand as Vietnamese travelers continue embracing Korean food culture, shopping districts, entertainment, and historical attractions.

The popularity of Korean entertainment, fashion, and beauty industries has also played a significant role in driving regional tourism demand across Asia.

Taipei maintained solid performance as well, continuing to attract travelers seeking a combination of culinary tourism, urban experiences, cultural attractions, and accessible regional travel options.

The sustained popularity of Northeast Asian destinations demonstrates growing confidence among Vietnamese travelers in taking longer international trips during major holiday periods.

Extended Holiday Period Drives Regional Tourism Growth

The convergence of multiple public holidays into one extended break has created ideal conditions for tourism growth across Vietnam and neighboring Asian destinations.

Hotels, airlines, resorts, tour operators, and hospitality businesses throughout the region are expected to benefit from increased traveler spending as demand continues rising across both domestic and international markets.

The surge in searches also reflects Vietnam’s expanding tourism economy and growing consumer confidence in leisure travel following years of strong regional aviation and hospitality recovery.

As Vietnamese travelers increasingly seek a balance between relaxation, adventure, cultural discovery, and convenience, destinations across Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia are expected to continue competing aggressively for this rapidly expanding outbound tourism market.

With beach escapes, city breaks, and regional cultural experiences all seeing strong demand, Vietnam’s April-May holiday period is shaping up to become one of Asia’s busiest travel seasons of 2026.
