Etihad Rail and Abu Dhabi destination developer Miral have announced a strategic partnership to improve travel connections between the UAE’s national passenger railway network and Yas Island. The initiative aims to make popular leisure attractions more accessible through an integrated transport system.
Announced on 21 October 2026, the agreement will connect Etihad Rail’s Mohamed bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi with Yas Island’s free Yas Express shuttle network.
The collaboration will allow railway passengers to continue their journeys towards major entertainment destinations without arranging separate private transportation.
Visitors will benefit from planned shuttle access to Ferrari World Yas Island, Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld Yas Island.
The agreement also supports Abu Dhabi’s broader ambitions to strengthen tourism connectivity and develop sustainable transportation infrastructure.
Etihad Rail and Miral Sign Strategic Tourism Transport Agreement
The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding between Miral and Etihad Rail.
Both organisations will cooperate to establish convenient first- and last-mile transportation services connecting railway passengers with Yas Island.
First-mile and last-mile connectivity describes the transport required between major public transportation networks and travellers’ final destinations.
This element becomes particularly important when railway stations are located away from major hotels, attractions or entertainment districts.
Under the agreement, passengers arriving at Mohamed bin Zayed City Station will be able to connect with the Yas Express shuttle network.
The arrangement is intended to simplify the transfer between national rail services and Yas Island’s tourism facilities.
Although the partnership has been announced, the organisations have not specified a commencement date or detailed timetable for the dedicated station connection.
Free Yas Express Shuttles to Connect Four Major Theme Parks
The planned shuttle connection will improve access to four of Abu Dhabi’s most prominent entertainment attractions.
Ferrari World Yas Island features motorsport-inspired experiences, themed rides and family entertainment.
Yas Waterworld provides water-based attractions, slides and recreational facilities designed for different age groups.
Warner Bros. World Yas Island offers indoor themed entertainment featuring popular fictional characters and immersive attractions.
SeaWorld Yas Island combines marine-life experiences, educational activities and family-focused entertainment.
The shuttle integration is intended to make these attractions more convenient for passengers travelling through the national railway network.
However, the free service applies to shuttle transportation, not admission to the theme parks.
Visitors should confirm attraction tickets and shuttle operating schedules when organising their journeys.
Yas Island Tourism Growth Drives Demand for Better Connectivity
Yas Island continues to strengthen its position as one of Abu Dhabi’s leading international leisure destinations.
According to official figures released in October, the destination recorded more than 44 million visits during 2025, representing annual growth of 16%.
Yas Island’s theme parks achieved a 10% increase in visits, demonstrating sustained demand for entertainment experiences.
Hotels recorded average occupancy of 84%, with peak periods reaching 90%.
The figures highlight the importance of developing efficient transport services capable of supporting rising visitor activity.
Yas Island also hosts international sporting competitions, concerts, exhibitions and major entertainment events.
Improving public transport connections could help distribute visitor movements more efficiently during busy tourism periods.
The planned Etihad Rail connection represents another initiative supporting the destination’s long-term accessibility.
Digital Integration Could Simplify Future Passenger Journeys
Beyond physical transportation links, Miral and Etihad Rail will explore opportunities for digital integration.
The objective is to create a more connected passenger experience between railway services and Yas Island transport facilities.
Future cooperation could potentially simplify access to journey information and help travellers coordinate different transportation options.
However, the organisations have not confirmed a combined ticketing platform, integrated booking application or implementation schedule.
Digital connectivity remains an area for further exploration under the agreement.
Lisa Goswell, Senior Vice President of Sales at Miral Destinations, emphasised the importance of accessible transportation as Yas Island continues attracting visitors.
The collaboration reflects Miral’s commitment to improving guest convenience while supporting integrated destination experiences.
For tourism businesses, coordinated transport information could eventually help travellers organise attraction visits and accommodation arrangements more efficiently.
UAE Passenger Rail Network Strengthens Domestic Tourism Opportunities
Etihad Rail’s expanding passenger network represents a significant development for transportation across the United Arab Emirates.
Passenger services officially launched on 30 September 2026, following preparations involving railway infrastructure, stations and operating systems.
The network is designed to improve connections between major population centres and destinations across the country.
Railway travel provides another transportation option for residents and visitors seeking journeys between participating emirates.
Improved connections could encourage domestic tourism by making leisure destinations accessible without relying exclusively on private vehicles.
Adhraa Almansoori, Executive Director of Commercial and Support at Etihad Rail Mobility, highlighted the importance of integrating passenger rail with other transportation networks.
The Miral partnership supports that objective by connecting railway infrastructure with established leisure facilities.
Sustainable Tourism Mobility Supports Abu Dhabi’s Long-Term Vision
The cooperation also aligns with the UAE’s ambitions to develop integrated and sustainable transportation systems.
Connecting trains with shuttle buses could make public transportation more attractive for selected leisure journeys.
Such arrangements may reduce the need for individual road transfers while supporting more coordinated visitor transportation.
The partnership also complements Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Strategy 2030, which aims to strengthen the emirate’s international tourism competitiveness.
Miral has separately announced plans to invest more than AED 12 billion in Yas Island developments over five years.
These investments include new attractions, hospitality facilities and enhancements to existing entertainment infrastructure.
Better railway connections could support access to these developments as visitor demand expands.
Etihad Rail and Miral Partnership Marks New Chapter for UAE Tourism
The latest agreement establishes a framework for continued cooperation between Etihad Rail and Miral.
Both organisations will explore further opportunities to connect national transportation infrastructure with important tourism destinations.
For visitors, the most immediate planned benefit is a convenient shuttle connection between Mohamed bin Zayed City Station and Yas Island.
Future digital integration could provide additional improvements as the partnership develops.
The initiative demonstrates how coordinated railway and destination transportation can support more accessible tourism experiences.
As Abu Dhabi continues investing in major attractions and transport infrastructure, the Etihad Rail–Miral partnership represents another step towards connecting the UAE’s growing railway network with its international tourism industry.
