Air India Launches Online Duty-Free Shopping with Adani Airports for Seamless Travel

Air India has introduced an integrated online duty-free shopping experience in partnership with Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), giving international travellers a more convenient way to shop before reaching the airport. Through the new digital service, passengers travelling via select Adani-operated airports can browse products, pre-order their purchases and complete payments online before collecting their items at designated airport duty-free counters.

The new Air India duty-free shopping service brings airport retail closer to the digital travel journey, allowing passengers to plan purchases before departure or after arrival. The platform has been integrated with Air India’s official website and mobile application, while the duty-free service itself is operated by Adani Digital Labs.

Online Duty-Free Shopping Before the Airport

The new service gives travellers access to a broad catalogue covering premium fragrances and cosmetics, confectionery, consumer electronics, luxury beverages and other travel-related products. Passengers can select their airport, choose a pickup date and time, complete payment and collect their packaged purchases at the designated duty-free location.

The launch also comes with introductory savings of up to 25% on standard retail shelf prices, subject to applicable terms and conditions. Air India said customers could also benefit from eligible bank offers and seasonal privileges, making advance shopping an additional option for travellers looking to plan their airport purchases before their journey.

Maharaja Club Members Can Earn Rewards

The partnership also connects duty-free shopping with Air India’s loyalty programme. Eligible Maharaja Club members can earn 3 Maharaja Points for every INR 100 spent on qualifying duty-free transactions. Points are calculated on the eligible net transaction amount, excluding taxes and applicable discounts.

To receive the points, eligible customers need to enter their valid nine-digit Maharaja Club ID during the purchase process. Air India’s current partner information states that points are generally credited within 45–60 days of the eligible transaction.

Duty-Free Service Available at Multiple Airports

At launch, the online service was available for travellers using duty-free facilities at several major airports operated by Adani Airports. These included Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram. Air India said the service would subsequently be rolled out across additional domestic and international gateways.

Air India’s current duty-free partner page also lists Guwahati and Amritsar among airports offering the service, indicating an expanded airport footprint following the initial launch.

A Wider Digital Airport Experience

The partnership forms part of a broader shift towards digitally connected airport services. Adani Airports has been expanding its digital ecosystem through Adani One, which brings together services including duty-free shopping, airport assistance, parking, cab bookings and other travel-related facilities.

For passengers, the integration of retail into the digital travel journey means some airport shopping decisions can be made before reaching the terminal. Instead of browsing entirely after arriving at the airport, travellers can explore the catalogue in advance and arrange collection around their journey.

The development also fits into Air India’s broader effort to expand the digital services available through its website and mobile application, bringing flight-related and ancillary travel experiences into a more connected customer journey.

What Travellers Can Shop For

The digital duty-free catalogue covers several categories aimed at both leisure and business travellers. These include fragrances, cosmetics, confectionery, spirits, electronics, fashion accessories and travel essentials, with the current Adani One duty-free catalogue featuring more than 14,000 products.

The range allows passengers to compare products and plan purchases ahead of time, while airport pickup removes the need to carry out the entire shopping process at the terminal.

Convenience Extends to Group Shopping

Another feature of the service is group ordering. Travellers can share their duty-free shopping cart with friends or family, allowing others to add products before the order is completed. The service can therefore be used not only for an individual’s purchases but also for shared shopping ahead of a journey.

The current Air India partner page states that eligible products can be pre-booked up to three hours before departure or arrival, adding flexibility for passengers making last-minute purchases.

Air India and Adani Airports Connect Aviation and Retail

The partnership brings together Air India’s passenger-facing digital ecosystem and Adani Airports’ airport retail infrastructure. The objective is to make duty-free shopping part of the broader travel experience rather than treating it solely as an activity carried out inside an airport terminal.

For Adani Airports, the initiative builds on its wider focus on digitally enabled passenger services. The airport operator has described its digital strategy around creating connected journeys before departure, during the airport experience and after arrival.

For Air India passengers, the new service adds another layer of convenience to international travel, particularly for those who prefer to plan their purchases in advance.

A More Connected Future for Airport Shopping

The launch of online duty-free shopping reflects how airport retail is increasingly moving beyond the physical terminal. Travellers are becoming accustomed to booking services, managing journeys and making purchases through digital platforms, and duty-free shopping is now becoming part of that wider shift.

By combining online browsing and payment with airport collection and loyalty rewards, the Air India and Adani Airports partnership creates a retail journey that begins before passengers reach the terminal.

As the service expands to more airports and potentially reaches a wider range of travellers, online duty-free shopping could become a more familiar part of the pre-flight experience in India. For passengers, the biggest change is simple: the opportunity to browse, plan and pay for duty-free purchases can now begin before the airport journey itself.
