Qatar Airways Restores Four Saudi Routes, Opening More Winter Travel Choices

Qatar Airways is restoring connections between Doha and four Saudi destinations, expanding travel choices for leisure visitors, families and business passengers. The winter programme covers Qassim, Taif, Yanbu and Tabuk, with twice-weekly services planned on each route.

The phased expansion runs through January 2027 and supports a Saudi schedule exceeding 155 weekly flights. That represents growth of more than 10% compared with the airline’s summer programme.

For international visitors, the restored connections offer additional regional arrival points through Doha. They could also simplify itineraries that otherwise require another Saudi airport and a longer onward journey.

Qassim Schedule Includes an Earlier October Return

Qatar Airways originally announced September plans for Qassim services to resume on October 25, followed by Friday flights from October 30.

However, its newer Qassim booking information advertises an earlier return from October 17. That programme lists seven weekly flights through October 24, followed by two weekly services from October 25.

The updated information changes the original restart timeline. Nevertheless, published availability alone does not confirm that an individual departure has operated.

Passengers should therefore check their selected date and current flight status rather than rely solely on the September announcement.

Under that announcement’s winter timetable, Qassim services operate on Fridays and Sundays, providing access between the region and Doha.

Taif, Yanbu and Tabuk Follow in Stages

Taif is scheduled to rejoin the network on October 31, 2026, with flights operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Yanbu follows on January 2, 2027, using the same operating days. Tabuk services are scheduled from January 3, with departures on Thursdays and Sundays.

Once all four twice-weekly routes are in place, they provide eight weekly departures from Doha, alongside their return services.

The schedule broadens destination choice, although twice-weekly frequencies require careful planning. Travellers arranging short holidays or business visits will need accommodation and activities that fit the available flight days.

The announcement does not specify passenger volumes or establish how many seats travellers will purchase.

Regional Gateways Broaden Holiday Possibilities

Each destination brings a different tourism offering into reach of passengers connecting through Doha.

Qassim combines agricultural heritage, date farms and traditional markets. Its appeal gives visitors opportunities to explore local culture beyond Saudi Arabia’s largest urban gateways.

Taif offers mountain scenery, rose-growing traditions and cultural attractions. However, visitors interested in rose experiences should confirm seasonal availability before arranging their stay.

Yanbu provides access to Red Sea beaches, reefs and diving activities. These attractions could suit travellers seeking coastal holidays alongside other Saudi destinations.

Meanwhile, Tabuk offers a starting point for mountain and valley excursions, including journeys towards Wadi Al Disah.

Regional arrival options can make these destinations easier to include in international itineraries. Ground transfers, excursion distances and attraction opening hours still require separate planning.

Doha Connections Support Different Travel Needs

The restored routes serve more than inbound holidays. Saudi residents gain additional options for overseas journeys, while families can compare connections for visits across the airline’s international network.

Business passengers also receive more regional entry and departure choices. However, the usefulness of each itinerary depends on connection times and operating days.

For travellers starting outside Qatar, these services involve a connection in Doha. The nonstop section runs between Doha and the relevant Saudi airport.

Passengers should compare the complete journey, including transfer duration, baggage conditions and arrival times, before choosing their itinerary.

Tourism Businesses Gain New Opportunities

Additional international access can create opportunities for hotels, guides, restaurants and transport providers in the four destination markets.

Those benefits depend on travellers booking local stays and activities. The route announcement does not establish higher occupancy, increased spending or cheaper airfares.

Qatar Airways reported carrying more than 2.3 million passengers between Saudi Arabia and its global network during the 12 months preceding September’s announcement.

That figure demonstrates the scale of its Saudi operations. It does not separately identify international holidaymakers or demand for the four restored routes.

For local tourism businesses, confirmed operating schedules provide a basis for planning transfers, packages and guest services.

Booking Checks Remain Essential

Reservations are available through Qatar Airways’ booking channels. Travellers should confirm the destination airport, flight date, return service and fare conditions before paying.

They should also check applicable entry requirements and passport validity. The route restoration introduces no new visa entitlement or immigration exemption.

Passengers arranging multi-destination holidays should review onward transport separately, particularly where attractions lie outside the arrival city.

As the remaining services approach their scheduled return, current booking information and operational updates will determine the options available for each journey.
