SWISS Expands India Presence With New Nonstop Bengaluru–Zurich Flights to Boost Business and Leisure Travel in 2026

Swiss International Air Lines is expanding its presence in India by introducing new nonstop Bengaluru–Zurich service. This new route will provide SWISS with its first ever direct service to the south of India, and will enhance connectivity between the country’s technology centre, Bengaluru, and Europe. Furthermore, the new route will help accommodate the growing demand for air travel by business passengers, high-value leisure visitors, and members of the Indian community living outside of India.

The new SWISS Bengaluru-to-Zurich flights will commence in October 2026 and operate five days a week from Kempegowda International Airport (Bangalore) to Zurich Airport. The airline has stated that passengers traveling between Bengaluru and Zurich will have the ability to connect seamlessly to other key cities in Europe and North America through the Lufthansa Group’s extensive flight network.

With this development, Bengaluru will become the third Indian location that SWISS has added to its route map apart from Delhi and Mumbai. This is because the airline is gradually focusing on India’s aviation sector, which is increasingly one of the world’s fastest-growing travel sectors.

According to industry experts, the introduction of a direct Bengaluru Zurich flight is a crucial strategic decision, as Bengaluru has become one of Asia’s largest centers for technology and innovation. This location attracts thousands of multinational firms, start-ups, and researchers from different parts of Europe and North America.

According to Lufthansa Group executives, the new route is designed to serve rising demand from the technology sector, corporate travelers, high-net-worth passengers, and luxury leisure travelers seeking premium international connectivity. The route will also strengthen travel access for Indian travelers heading to Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, and other major European destinations through Zurich’s extensive transit network.

The service will operate using long-haul aircraft equipped with First Class, Business Class, and Economy Class cabins, allowing passengers to access SWISS’s premium onboard experience. Travelers will also gain access to premium airport lounges, Swiss hospitality services, and simplified single-ticket connections through the Lufthansa Group ecosystem.

The new route also highlights the increasing importance of India Switzerland air connectivity amid rising international travel demand. Aviation analysts note that Indian outbound tourism and corporate travel have grown rapidly over the past few years, pushing global airlines to expand operations into major Indian cities beyond Delhi and Mumbai.

Bengaluru Airport authorities welcomed the announcement, stating that the direct connection will improve international accessibility for travelers from South India while supporting economic growth, tourism, and foreign investment. The airport’s extensive domestic network connecting over 75 Indian destinations is expected to further strengthen passenger traffic for the new route by enabling easier transfers from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

The launch is also expected to intensify competition among European carriers operating in India. Airlines including Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways, Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines are increasingly expanding premium international routes targeting India’s growing middle-class and corporate travel market. Industry observers believe Bengaluru is becoming one of the most competitive international aviation hubs in South Asia.

Meanwhile, the Lufthansa Group continues expanding its broader India strategy through multiple airlines including Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and ITA Airways. Collectively, the group is expected to operate more than 70 weekly flights to and from India during the Winter 2026 schedule.

The new service also arrives during a period of significant transformation within the Indian aviation sector, with airports across Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and other cities witnessing rising international passenger traffic, infrastructure expansion, and airline investments. Analysts believe stronger long-haul connectivity will further position Bengaluru as a major global business and aviation gateway.

As international airlines compete with one another to capture a bigger portion of the expanding Indian marketplace, SWISS’s recent expansion shows its growing confidence in both the long-term demand for travel within the country, as well as in the continuing long-term economic growth of the country, and also in the premium level of demand for international travel.

The Bengaluru to Zurich route is anticipated to support continued growth of tourism, trade, technology collaboration, and corporate movement between India and Europe, both in 2026 and continuing into the future.
